Thanks for the clarification and I can see what you mean. Yes Bassey is young and not in the same league as Borna who to my mind can be one of the best left backs in the world if he continues his progress and gets the right move at the right time, but I don’t believe it was an error to play him in Paisley or that we seen evidence he couldn’t cut it in that environment. I think given the level of his performances to that point we were optimistic we have a real talent and we have to give him enough game time to nourish it. I think he just had a stinker that night, pure and simple. It happens! Especially to players who haven’t yet had 20 first team games in their career. The other main point is that I don’t believe for a single second that SG takes any solace from our elimination that we may have a slightly better chance in the league, or that, even subliminally, he gambled with a weaker side that night. I saw that side and thought it looked stronger than I had feared we would play, given the known niggles and suspensions that had been discussed in the build up. I hardly slept a wink that night I was so angry at our defeat, and I guess SG was similarly put out. St Mirren played the game of their life and we had too many below par performances. I still don’t see that side as being much weaker and it most certainly should have been good enough to beat a physical but pretty poor St Boo side. I am pleased with our response in the 2 games subsequently, and we find ourselves back in Paisley tomorrow afternoon with an early chance to set the record straight. I wonder how different the side will be to the cup game? After all we have a 6 pointer on Saturday and this is only worth 3! -
We showed at the piggery just 10 weeks ago how to play the bheasts, we dont need anyone else to show us. A repeat of that performance will do fine.

I thought Aribo was different class again yesterday and gets my vote. His close control is a beautiful sight to behold, and his strength on the ball is remarkable. If he hits top form next weekend, I will be very confident of a successful outcome no matter what Madden gives them. Great to see Hagi get a winning goal, like Roofe he does seem to fall out the game for periods, but then bang he gets an assist or scores from nowhere. Quality player and I hope he uses this and a couple of other recent good performances to push on and be impossible to drop.

Delighted with the win and first half performance. Second half I thought we were second best all over the park and we were lucky not to concede as we gave away ball control and territory to an impressive Hibs side who won’t be shut out very often this season if they can keep that level up. Im just going to take away the positives from this one, the victory, clean sheet, some lovely crisp passing in the first half, and turn the attention to some cold hard revenge on Wednesday to right the wrongs from our worst performance of the season a couple of weeks ago. -

Strong line up, Hagi earns himself a start after a good performance in midweek. It looks to me that SG expects Hibs to open up and play a bit as we are playing all our most creative players who should have more space to create than most weeks. Just hope we are strong enough to win the midfield battle as that will be the key for me today. -

A thoroughly enjoyable article there, however I found myself agreeing with hardly any of it. I will pick out just a few, Bassey has one bad game out of the 12 or so he has played, and in a game there were no pass marks for anyone, and all of a sudden he is rubbish? SG threw the league cup by not making a sub at the right time? Come on that’s just utter nonsense. SG has not mastered the art of subs in his time here, yet, and you could tell by his post match how angry and upset he was at our elimination that he badly wanted to win this trophy. Really badly. I did love and agree wholeheartedly with the points gap point made above. To my mind it is 7 points, and the tims are quick to agree with this number, but we know we will have blown a 16 point lead if they catch us according to our media and the bheasts. Let’s hope we don’t get to find out how true that becomes. -

The start of an absolutely massive week for us with best of the rest Hibs followed by a trip to Paisley where we were caught out recently and the bheasts next weekend. 9 points goes a long way towards 55, 7 points will be seen as somewhat reasonably decent, and anything less and we are going to have serious doubts about our credentials to get this done, with an always difficult trip to Dolly up after these. Our players and management must be fully focused and be aware of just how big a leap towards our ultimate goal this week can provide if we play our top game. First things first, and we must right the wrongs of Easter Rd where we dropped 2 points due to poor officiating and not being ruthless enough in attack or concentrating enough defensively. Hibs will be a very stiff test, are expected to be very different from our usual opponents in terms of shape and challenge provided and we will have to outperform their midfield and take our chances while remaining completely switched on defensively. In reality the cost to assemble our squad compared to Hibs shows a monumental gulf in quality and depth, but Hibs are belying that gulf by their performances and results recently and this will be just as hard a test as the following weekend, some may say more so. Let’s not forget however that we are on quite a league run ourselves with 11 straight victories and we will go in as clear favourites to make that 12. At the halfway point and with a decent lead of 7 points, our title rivals will be looking at the fixtures and wondering where we are going to slip up and will have this game earmarked as a potential for us dropping points and give them some momentum for next week. We must not open the door ajar even a little. Really looking forward to seeing how we play and cope tomorrow, but I will take a scrappy victory of any sorts and gladly move on as we start to count downwards in terms of games remaining rather than games played. -
I thought Aribo was top class last night, and just pipped it ahead of another fine performance from Kamara, with Hagi, Barasic, Roofe all putting in eye-catching performances also. Great to get back to clean sheets, and got Shagger to thank for that wonderful save from their only real effort on goal, even though it cost me a perfect score in the predictor!

The big improvements are in defence, where Goldson and Tav have improved their game hugely and cut out the silly mistakes that far too often cost us goals last season. They have gone from that to wonderfully consistent defenders who are both right up there with our biggest goal threats also. Another big improvement is in the depth and quality of the squad. No longer is it the case that when we make subs we weaken the side, in fact in many cases we add quality when using our subs. Use of subs has improved domestically, although the manager got it badly wrong in both Benfica games to deny us a clean sweep of victories in our group, but overall there has been big improvements in the use of subs this season. Negatives, there are not many, although our total capitulation in Paisley that cost us a first major trophy in 10 years still hurts me deeply, and allows the thought to still be there that we are still capable of bottling it when under the biggest pressure. It is clear that this will be proven or (hopefully) blown away over the course of the next few games and the Scottish Cup to come. Negatives, we really need to sell in January to balance our books, and we have to hope that this doesn't badly affect our harmony and squad. I cannot think of any player that we couldn't do without given the quality and depth of our squad, perhaps apart from Tav as Patterson is still young and wont be as influential as Tav has become. I dont see Tav being sold for £20M so i dont see that as an issue. If anyone is to be sold, (Morelos, Kamara, Kent, etc) I believe we have ready replacements that will keep us just as strong. Obviously it would be better that we keep everyone but our squad is too big, too expensive, and the wage bill too high for our income and must be brought under control.

Sporting integrity is whatever Peter says it is so no problem there

And as defending champions they are put forward for the champions league while the league is declared null and void.

Thanks guys, that is totally outrageous and makes a mockery of this decision to be playing football while no crowds can attend. Even more outrageous is the ST Mirren kick off time on a Wednesday afternoon at 3.00. What possible justification for this can there be? What is our club administrators doing about this? Did we sign up for this nonsense? Are they really wanting people to travel to Perth to stand on that hill where you can see half the pitch?

MATCH REPORT - RANGERS 3 MOTHERWELL 1
Tannochsidebear replied to Govan Rear Bear's topic in Rangers Chat
Just watched the goals again as I was picking upon ‘Well manager saying the goals came from individual errors from his defenders and I couldn’t really recall any clangers for any of the goals. On further review I still don’t see any individual errors, perhaps at the third goal the defender could have hoofed it over his shoulder before Itten nipped in to flick it to Aribo but that would be really harsh to single that out as an individual error. My only conclusion is that there was no individual errors, it was their filthy piece of scum manager trying to deflect away from his anti football tactics that got him zero points, and was quite happy to throw his players under the bus instead of owning his defeat, or even better, giving his opponent some praise for once, as unlikely as that is when his opponent is Rangers. -
As title, is Wednesday’s game live on tv? I had thought that the reason for the 600 kick off was to fit 2 live games into the one evening but I can’t see it listed? If not on Sky, then can we watch on Rangers tv within the UK as it is not a home game? This is the first game since lockdown not shown live on tv (sky, bt, premier etc) and not at Ibrox so how do we see it?

MATCH REPORT - RANGERS 3 MOTHERWELL 1
Tannochsidebear replied to Govan Rear Bear's topic in Rangers Chat
I think it is clear that after 18 games we have done remarkably well and set ourselves up with a chance. However after 23 games we will have a much bigger clue as to our destiny for this season. Our previous mental fragility when asked the big domestic questions arose again from nowhere on Wednesday and after an hour yesterday a large number of us would have been forgiven for starting to think we were watching a rerun of seasons past. At full time we took a huge sigh of relief as we finally found the way through the wall of ‘Well, and it is another game we can say that we definitely wouldn’t have won it last year which gives us hope that we are a different animal this year. To my mind we have 5 games to win the league. Win our next 5 games, we will have a minimum 10 point lead (in real terms) with just 15 games to go and we will have ticked off another set of games against the best 3 sides in the league. It should be cruise time from there. Anything less and we open the door to the bheasts, and allow the questions of bottle to magnify as the run in continues. -

I don’t get all this “at least it wasn’t the league” pish. We just lost a great opportunity to win a cup and give our players and management the belief that they can be winners. You can lose a league game and it doesn’t cost you the title, lose a cup game and your oot, done, gubbed, you can’t win it. If you have won a few cups over last few years you can start being precious and prioritise, but when you have won nothing, you must win this. As much as I have been fantastically proud and delighted and amazed at our start to the season, tonight showed all our old flaws and when the pressure was really on we have completely blown it. I’m absolutely raging. I hope the manager is too. -

When we haven’t won any of the last about 20 major trophies, and just thrown away a total gimme, the term is entirely accurate. -
