I haven't a scooby what's going on but I'm sure I could develop a credible agrument and pretend I did. Give me the platform of a national newspaper and a BBC radio show and I guarantee I could have most of the audience convinced I know but can't say. Name me one sports journalist in Scotland who doesn't play this game. Usually, the less they actually say the greater the inference that they do know some inside info. In your wildest dream do you honestly believe Murray confides in any journalist when it comes to his business affairs? All Murray has done is manipulate the press and broadcast media to cultivate some sympatheic publicity and take everyone's eyes of his real intentions. That's not being sneaky, it's just a sensible precaution. Murray started off being good for Rangers, followed by a long period of increasingly aimless decline. If it had been the other way around, I'd have no problem with him. But whatever I think of the need for him to get out of Rangers, I don't think he's about to let low grade monkeys like Traynor into his plans, no matter how flattered Traynor might be to think it's otherwise.

I listened to Traynor and while he'd like you to believe he's in the know, he seemed mighty reluctant to say anything you could hold him to. I doubt if he knows anything other than the same speculation we all hear.

David Murray - The Definitive Guide to a Living Legend

Except that Rangers isn't a business in any normal sense. For many years, Rangers has essentially had one shareholder and one executive director, who are the same person. Why would Murray remove himself because he is letting himself down? A hall of mirrors couldn't be more absurd than the modern day Rangers boardroom. Dictatorships are only ever successful if the dictator happens to be perfect and we all know how often that happens. -
Could ra Yahoos conclude their Euro season behind closed doors?

I don't know if they're walking a tightrope or not but it's just as well celtc didn't qualify for the CL because there simply wouldn't have been enough air time to accommodate them on radio and TV. Since they got humiliated by Arsenal, the coverage of the famous hoops has been all out and total. Clearly, the Europa league will be treated in Scotland as the major European competition this season. BBC, a nest of feni@n shitebags. -

I'd have thought the current market price of Rangers shares is a complete irrelevance to any deal, other than as a benchmark for assessing personal tax liability if bought at a discount. Since any transaction for all or part of Murray's shareholding will almost certainly be conducted an arms length between companies, this is unlikely to be seen as much of an issue. The selling price will be agreed by personal negotiation and may involve an arrangement stretching over many years. I haven't looked at the details in the Articles of the company but at Murray's level of majority I'd imagine all other shareholders will be subject to dragalong. Anyone wishing to buy control of the club (and who in their right mind would waste money on a minority stake) will essentially have to do a personal deal with an individual (Murray) who now has no legal responsibility to the club that he has previously had as a director. As such, Murray can now do a deal to suit himself, with no contraint or obligation to act in the best interests of the club. It's interesting to think that the current state of affairs actually allows Murray the opportunity to sell all his shares but continue to influence how the club is run through the terms of a sharesale agreement entered into with the buyer. The selling price could actually be used to leverage such an arrangement that could allow Murray to benefit from his current shareholding long after he's actually sold it. This could of course be good or bad, depending on how smart of otherwise Murray actually is. I'm not predicting this is what will happen, just pointing out that we shouldn't be entirely naive about Murray's decision to step down from the board of directors. Such a move actually empowers him if you are inclined to look at it that way. Another angle worth considering is that money isn't the only currency in sharesales. It is entirely possible that Murray is using Rangers to trade his way into a buyers business through a share exchange, with or without a cash element. Some might see it as the hallmark of a smart businessman - to have the world looking one way while he closes a deal on the blind side. I've no idea what is going on but I'd bet on it being nothing like the media stories circulating and being regurgitated on fan's forums. Murray does nothing out of sentiment and any thoughts of him being too jaded to want to carry on are definitely bollocks. If he is conducting a deal then it's nothing to do with Rangers and everything to do with what he wants in exchange for his shares. -

I don't think his departure from the board room signals an imminent sale. Remember, this isn't about selling the club, it's about Murray selling his shareholding. It looks more like he can't or won't sell his shares and has little or no interest being involved. The upshot is more likely to be entrenched stagnation with the only decision maker being increasingly detached and the board being deprived of power to make or carry out policy. Whatever way I look at this it seems to be the worst of all possible worlds. For him to orchestrate a media campaign to deflect the truth from the clubs supporters is beneath contempt. -

It's a bit late to be concerned about impending decline. I'd be happy to get back to where we were before big mouth bought the club.- 15 replies

Agreed, Bluedell. Selling the club effectively means selling Murray's shares and that's a matter for Murray alone. -

Yes, could be. Trouble with all things Murray is that we've heard it all a dozen times before. The oldest game in the book is to survive by consistently telling people you're intending to leave. "Lot's of rumours" would be a fitting epitaph for the Great Boaster. -
I was asking about the game to come. You seem to have mastered clairevoyance, I just wondered if you might share some details.

We're (nearly) all hoping he goes and the club can breathe again. Maybe he will sell and there will actually be cause to mark his passing. In the meantime, it's not an opinion, it's a point of fact that he remains in control of the club and nothing of any significance can be changed without his consent. So why the orchestrated media campaign to suggest he is stepping down? Why do it? -

Maybe I was lazy as well. i just don't see how anything meaningful has changed ..... except Murray is once more where he loves to be, at the centre of everyone's attention. Still in complete control of the club in every way that counts but somehow having convinced a lot of people that he has somehow "stepped aside" ...... when nothing of the sort has actually happened. Old dodgy dave, he sure knows how to pull the wool. You have to admire the old goat. -

Get a grip. Shareholding controls companies. Directors merely have responsibility. You're swallowing the hook so deep it's sticking out your arse. -

Journalistic garbage. The coming weeks will be dreadful, with journos and Murrayites climbing over each other the lick the blowhard's arse. The bandwagon had better have strong axles. As an act of self-promotion this actually takes some beating. Not many manage to get such accolades in memoriam while still shafting their mourners.- 15 replies

That'll be why Murray is commending his "global reach" - he's never here. I don't doubt he's far more capable than Murray and if Murray didn't still own the vast majority of the club there might even be some point feeling slightly optimistic. Unfortunately, Murray is still very much in control and Mr Johnston might as well keep on practicing his global reach. It's just another signature on the board minutes. -

And since 2000 we've had............ 3 championships (one to blubber McLennan?) 1 to every 2 for celtc 1 in a row Murray Park producing squat The 70,000 myth and barely a lick of paint Not saying it's been an entirely unsuccessful tenure but you can see why the support might be less than impressed with the old blowhard and might not, I suspect, reflect too generously on his tenure.
