Like he ignored the widespread and vocal disagreement with his decision to sign Kenny Miller. Christ, even thinking about the predictability of that waste of money makes my blood boil. Everyone knew how Miller would turn out - everyone except Walter Smith and the Ostrich Loyal. Arrogance and stupidity certainly aren't restricted to the young.

Four arrested and on their way to Manchester for tea and scones. The little bastard on Scotzine phrases it in his own entirely neutral manner Four Rangers Hooligans Arrested after Dawn Raid He should be banned from Gersnet forthwith

Smith won't leave until and unless the fans actually turn on him in public. Murray's culture is that you don't heed the fans until you absolutely have to. On the other hand, a few choruses of Walter Walter get tae Fuuk would leave him nowhere to hide. They'd mobilise the usual defence but Smith would have to leave.

No credible manager would appear in the rags the day after he'd failed so badly and spout that nauseating pish. Does he honestly believe nothing has changed and it's business as usual? Can he possibly think we are that gullible? He's finished. I predicted when he came back that he would leave with his reputation in tatters. It is.

Walter Smith, you are the weakest link - GOODBYE!
maineflyer replied to Gazza_8's topic in Rangers Chat
Walter Smith is a waste of fukking space and should be sacked out of hand this morning. He would be if we didn't suffer from the double whammy of an inept manager AND an incompetent chairman. Here's something for you Dave if you're looking in....... Our last six results against celtic, guess in which one we didn't adopt a defensive 4-5-1 formation? Lost 2-1; Lost 3-2; Won 4-2; Lost1-0; Drew 0-0; Lost 2-0 Before the final on Sunday, celtic had lost 2, drawn 1 and beaten Queens Park. The mega brain in our manager's head still saw them as something to fear however and used the same tactics that haven't beaten them once in the last five attempts. If he has one decent decision left in him. Walter will lift his pen and write that resignation letter today. -
It's not a problem to identify better managers, even one's we could afford. The problem is that we are owned by an arsehole who knows nothing about football and understands even less about Rangers. Before worrying too much about the next manager, I think we need to concern ourselves with how to get rid of the one we've got. I see no prospect of David Murray getting it right when it comes to finding the sort of manager we need. He'll spend hours telling anyone who will listen how proud he is never to have sacked a manager - as if that somehow made him a super-chairman, better than all the rest. If he's spend a fraction of that time trying to ensure we had a successful manager, we'd be a whole lot better off today. Smith never was a particularly capable manager in the first place but he benefited from immaculate timing and gathered a reputation he never really did deserve. He was a washed up old goat with nothing left in the tank before he left Rangers in 1998. We saw how much he was capable of in the team that took the field in that cup final against Hearts - he'd allowed the squad to play past their sell-by date and had been singularly negligent in assuring any succession. When he resigned, there was nothing left in him or the playing staff. Quite simply, Smith has to go now. As much as I wouldn't give the managers job to Ally McCoist, I would prefer to have him rum the playing side between now and the end of the season as caretaker manager. I earnestly believe we would have more chance of lifting the league title without Smith than with him there. If Smith stays we will win nothing this season, that much was crystal clear from Sunday's game, where he got everything wrong that it was humanly possible to get wrong. Surely we can justify no more head-in-the-sand support for Walter Smith.

I was wrong, unlike more than half the team and our manager's spine, the Billy Boys wasn't missing from action after all. It was the one bright moment in an afternoon of failure. I only hope that is just the start.
-
Not my bloody money they won't. We're heading down the toilet this summer and I'm damned if I'll be contributing to it. You're undoubtedly right about Boogie though and it's a damned shame good players like him never see a second year at Ibrox.
-
I agree with you and I won't be found condemning McLeish. He can hold his head up and point to a treble and four other trophies during a period when celtic had a lot better team than the one Smith is up against.
-
Indeed he didn't although the list of players above shows he did inherit a few. I don't know how much Eck actually spent but it couldn't have been much. He did bring some awful trash to the club though.
-
For a while, McLeish still had players like De Boer, Arteta, Amoruso, Lovenkrands, Klos, Cannigia, Ricksen, Mols, Numan to call on. That's why some of his tenure compares well. Once he'd had to sell them or let them go, the football was more or less the same shite we see now. Smith has added the perversity of playing everyone out of position. In the end the McLeish years were dreadful but we'll soon be looking back on them and wishing we could turn back the clock. McLeish also had one other advantage over Smith - he wasn't a smug gutless old goat.

Need to get real mate. Hope is good but sometimes you have to smell the roses.

No doubt the NOTW has chosen its opportunity here but is anyone seriously doubting there is a financial crisis at Rangers? BTW, the article states a 71% increase in interest payments, not interest rates.- 13 replies

Boyd out of cup final after bust-up with Walter
maineflyer replied to ascender's topic in Rangers Chat
The only worthwhile response to his aggressive pish is simply never to respond it ........ the amusement of watching him put together ever more wordy posts to say exactly the same thing over and over again eventually wanes and now that the grass has started growing again there is obviously a far more productive way to pass the time. I've tangled with a few old timers in the short time I've posted on Gersnet who seem particularly intolerant of those they disagree with and don't hesitate to lash out whenever it suits them. This fella is struck from the same mould and seems incapable of making a post that isn't laced with the venom of personal insults. It's a yawn but that can be a fact of life around here. -
Are you suggesting that there is some result in sight that justifies doing this. I don't want to live my life like a MOPE just to fight against MOPEry. In case you missed it, I'm not trying to moralise against such action, I'm just saying it will never get you anywhere. Nor do I want to live where you it would take you. The only way forward is to fight for what we want, not to fight against what we don't want. Perhaps alexscottislegend will show us the way as he takes on the legal system to prove them wrong. Brave man that he is.
-
Please, be my guest, if you're so sure then go ahead and make the legal challenge. Keep us all posted how you get on.

But a problem for who ...... and why? The word f.enian is clearly only offensive because someone has claimed to be offended by it. That opportunity will persist no matter what words are changed. The real problem hear is that social morals are now entirely driven by contrived victimhood rather than by any serious analysis of content. If we chose to sing about f.enian blood then who's business is it to say we can't. What is happening here is the suppression of choice for entirely bogus reasons, invented to support the sectional interests of some extremely dubious people. Just stop and think about the absurdity of the situation we find ourselves in. We live in a country where you can be jailed for singing a song at a football match. How fukking pathetic is that. And now we are tuned, ears agog, to every celtic match to log what is sung there, just so that we can extract some kind of quid pro quo and ensure this nonsense is perpetuated.
-
I know what you're saying but I'm not really interested in what the other mob sing or say. I'm offended only by their existence. I take no offence at being called a hun and feel it's petty in the extreme when other bears pretend to be mortally wounded when they hear the word uttered by some cheap celebrity. Their songs mean nothing compared to the loss of our own freedom to express our culture and allegiances. To be brutally honest, there is so much I find unacceptable in our depressingly corrupt little country that it would be a pleasure to live elsewhere. I doubt if Scotland is unique but the infestation of famine dodgers, manipulated by the catholic church and exploited by politicians is gnawing at the heart of a society already worn down by an identity crisis going back many generations. There's virtually no freedom here in this jungle of political correctness and false victimhood? The Billy Boys will never return as a result of some challenge in court. Such challenge would never be allowed to succeed. It will only ever be sung in defiance of laws that allow the police to interpret as they choose. And society today looks to me to be far too cowed to challenge anyone about anything. We might win a football match on Sunday but we've already lost something far more important. Celebrate if you're blind enough.

...... will be the uplifting sound of the The Billy Boys ringing around the old stadium. Surely the most inspiring football song ever, now banned by the collusion of the serially offended and the odious media in our own country. Offensive, my arse, praising the murder of soldiers and policemen is offensive. One day I hope we have the balls to leave this absurd shadow of false shame and sing this great song again. Until we do I'll always feel something is missing.
