When rumours start in our world, the cry always goes up ... "name your source", on the basis that others can then try to validate the rumour. In this case we don't appear to have that option. You might know how to access Andrew Ellis' mobile phone number but I don't, or I'd have used it long ago. Without the benefit of your personal relationship, the rest of us have to look only at what's in front of us and that's impossible to verify. Perhaps, as you say, if NL didn't make such an almighty fuss every time someone offers a contrary opinion, it might be less uncomfortable to take him at face value ... but that's never been the case.
-
I'm not aware he has done anything wrong but neither you nor I know the route or timeframe of the Ellis quotes. Anyway, I'm not accusing anyone of anything, only looking for clarification - it's not as if there hasn't already been a ton of bullshit on the subject of buying Rangers.
-
To an extent, surely this IS the debate. I'm delighted you have a basis for placing your trust in NL but you must be aware that there are many supporters who are not so fortunate. Personally, I have no basis for believing or disbelieving. The forum world is full of claims and counter claims, sometimes if it is important enough you have to go looking for something more tangible. As far as I'm concerned NL can settle this without contravening the official secrets act - if Ellis is so willing to communicate with NL, why would he be any different if someone else sought to confirm his position? I can't believe he feels that a stranger who obtained his phone number without his permission is somehow personally key to his efforts. In fact, it's stretching credibility and it would actually be in NL's interests to have this corroborated.
-
Why would that matter? Ellis already knows NL has the number and presumably makes the connection that he got it from somewhere. Why would possession of that number be such a sensitive matter? Why would we care so much if it is? Whose interests do we have at heart here?
-
You can't easily post lengthy articles asking for clarity and then chastise people for seeking to do the same. You're right it shouldn't involve abusing anyone but everything about this is blurred and shifting. NL is just one factor here and, since he chose to put himself forward in terms of his claimed contact with Ellis, it seems fair enough to me that others should be able to question those claims or seek confirmation. As you are no doubt aware, NL's claims are openly ridiculed on certain other websites and I for one would like to know if there's any basis for this. He may be entirely genuine, he may be entirely inventive, or he may be being misled. I don't know which ... but I'd like to. Offers that involve me making a round trip of several hundred miles to listen to a phone conversation that could be anything may seem conclusive but, when you think about it, are quite pointless. Where would NL be if his "source" hadn't shared the phone number with him? Presumably he'd have a considerably lower profile and less posts under his belt. Why should he be reluctant to allow corroboration of his claims in the same way as he came to be involved? Surely you or I calling that number would allow a great many Rangers supporters to gain some of the clarity you've been campaigning for.

Never mind turning anything around. If it was given to you in confidence then you can give it to me in confidence. If Ellis doesn't know where you got it from then you can't compromise your source unless you tell me who it was and I don't want to know. What's your problem?
-
OK very good memory man, now that you've consulted your notes, in that case I'm sure he'll have no good reason not to share his means of access.

It's not so much that Zappa but nothing we say or do will have any effect on people like that bastard McGillivan. They don't really give a damn how we react or feel about their articles. They're driven by a hatred that only feeds on itself

Post or pm the phone number that you use to contact Andrew Ellis, I'd like to call him myself.

Did it.....

I'm not for an imposed banning on any subject, just for people exercising common sense.

Andrew Ellis, the Walter Mitty of wannabe football club owners. A self-publicist who likes to talk to anyone who will listen and believe, except those who matter of course. And he's probably the best bet on the horizon, which means the horizon is actually completely bare and anyone actually expecting better days for this club will be very, very disappointed before the summer is out ... especially if I'm wrong and Ellis does become the new owner.

I'd start by banning (voluntarily of course) all talk about the NOTW on Rangers forums
-
Almost certainly both.

It's been going on every day for the last ten years at least. To begin with, most supporters refused to acknowledge it but it was certainly going on. At no time during those years has the club ever really been prepared to defend its reputation or to challenge the endless bullshit thrown in our direction. Well now, whether anyone thinks it or knows it, the club IS in a one hell of a mess and I'm beginning to think that the time for the club's directors to discover leadership is long past. Isn't it just the truth that we've suffered some of the most inadequate directors in the club's history, including Sir Blowhard. Whether we owe the taxman £5 million or £50 million, it won't change the actions of liars like Phil McGillivan and it will take more than the muppets in charge of Rangers to deal with it. Frankly, I've got more faith in a cabbage to run/own Rangers than the people we've got now. -
These articles are not written with us in mind. These are for the consumption and relief of the demoralised feenyan masses.

Watched the Scottish Cup final, what a bore. About as bad as the previous two finals!
-
There's little doubt about it. Even if they've learned some new language, the old instincts still generally prevail for too many supporters.

I wonder what group or forum those members on FF think is being attacked?

I don't want to be the one to spread rumours here but the last time I called Ellis on my mobile I swear I heard him cross himself.

Dammit, forgot about the hippies. Should have remembered the hippies. Mind you, they were into the beans as well as the beads, so probably best not to confuse the issue with hippies.

Beans .... not beads, BEANS. A handful of beans. Murray always deals in beans, especially lucky beans. But never beads. Beads are for red indians.

Clarification required from those present.

It's not our club, we're not even entitled to be treated as supporters by supporters organisations, let alone those running the club. At least not while there's a single opportunity for even one elitist mouthpiece to polish his ego by the fine old art of excluding everyone else. As I keep on saying, in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. Anyway, you can't open it up for everyone to see, someone might have their eyes open.- 5 replies

Must be about time for the call to go out to the Old Hero who, like Arthur, will rise and charge down the M8 to our rescue.
