  1. Wise, yes. But not easy. Not that I've ever been guilty of a knee jerk comment.
  2. Aw come on, it's just the way he felt when he said it. Sometimes we can just hurt like football fans and leave the deep analysis to one side. You ask him to comment on the same issue today and you might get an entirely more considered opinion? Besides, if he thinks it is unacceptable then that's his view .... and he might well be right. Ally McCoist certainly seemed to agree with him in his post-match comments.
  3. It's a very fair concern but I think the end of this season was always going to be a hard run in. Lot's of talk recently about trebles but trebles never come easy. You can't be in every competition without playing lots of games but what lots of games requires isn't a big squad or or an extended season .... it's what the great Jock Wallace referred to as character. And didn't his teams have some of that! This team won't repeat the UEFA cup season of two years ago and run out of steam, we're not a great team but we are at last a team.
  4. Ouch! But this is the madness that the micks have unleashed on the game in general. Every made-up wannabe can grab a headline by claiming victimhood and if it connects to the Grand Establishment Theory then so much the better.
  5. To be fair, is anyone seriously prepared to claim the RST hasn't been hampered by agendas and hypocrisy? However, the OP was clearly pointing to the lack of comment by the RST during recent events and that still strikes me as an entirely relevant subject to raise. I could say that I think my approach to the RST is at least as constructive as the acquiessent back-slapping that characterises much of the comment on that dysfunctional organisation. Don't confuse easy words with constructiveness.
  6. Ellis is making confident noises - which may all be spin - or could signal reasons why this is a marriage made in heaven for Murray. Can you see the situation where Ellis has effectively been chosen by Murray because their business models are so aligned?
  7. No surprise to see this particular team jumping on the celtic bandwagon. Still, I suppose we should be grateful for the added incentive to put them in their place in the replay.
  8. The performance of one or two players was very frustrating but we're still in the cup and that, for me, is the main thing. Few things worth having come easily. However, I can't accept that it's being fickle to vent your feelings about a football match. If anyone believes we were dreadful then I'm happy for them to call it the way they see it. Describing them as fickle seems to carry an intention to belittle their views and infer they're not as good a supporter as their accuser. That's plain bollocks and we need to be confident enough to let people express their criticism on the team or individual players. Fickle is a term intended to mean someone has only shallow views that change on a whim. In fact, people who do change their opinions are usually only describing the too-obvious changes that actually take place in performances from game to game. More worthy of criticism are those who see some kind of empirical truth in everything and hold to standard views regardless of reality and defend those views to the point of irrelevance. Monday mornings eh?
  9. These things certainly do affect business outlook but it's not a major leap to see Murray as an investor in any future property deal fronted by an Ellis-owned RFC.
  10. I seriously worry that the men who have led the club to it's present state are the same people who will be appraising the Ellis plan.
  11. I have to disagree that young is necessarily effective or modern is enlightened. It isn't age that's been our problem, it's lack of ability and vision. I do agree with you that there need to be fans on the board...... perhaps I'd rather say that directors of Rangers should all be fans of the club anf guided by an emtional attachment. Mr Murray wasn't a Rangers man and neither will be Ellis. In fact it looks increasingly like we could be about to leave the frying pan and leap into the fire.
  12. I agree that if we're going to increase income (which we desperately need to), we need to give many more people something that they want and are prepared to pay money for. The idea of having a big support simply pay moneu every year for a "membership" won't work beyond the first few years. A decent TV or internet platform giving the supporter what he/she wants in return for that money - better access to the club, to merchandising, etc. - is a much more sustainable concept. But not the pathetic propaganda we've seen in the past - we need something run by fans, not by the club..... which brings in some of Enigma's ideas. I definitely think we have to get beyond thie popular notion that the season ticket holder is the only important customer to cater for. Playing the numbers game, those fans who almost never see Ibrox are where the real earning potential lies - IF you can connect with them, which the club currently doesn't begin to do.
  13. I think you've nailed it sir.... but of course that shouldn't be a reason for people not taking part. But I need to get back to thinking about my OP and Frankie's sggestion that we might examine the form, function and purpose of supporters organisations.
  14. You introduced freedom into the equation and smiled wryly ... I responded. Now you've moved without a backward glance to the apparent futility and fragmentation of these websites. It's hard to fathom what you'll come up with next. I love surprises on my birthday too, will you be around later in the year?
  15. Must just be you then.
  16. ........ unless someone already there will vouch for you.
  17. Unfortunately, an open internet doesn't bring any freedom. How do you keep your website free of people who wish only to destroy it? How do you achieve the freedom only to correspond with honest people? Your smile can be as wry as you like but many people register and post on Rangers websites who are not Rangers supporters. Some are supporters of other clubs, some are club officials, others are from the media, many have decidedly unfriendly intentions. Some arrive en masse with the express purpose of loading the dice and manipulating opinion. Paranoia - nope, it happens all the time. So should the people who created VB or any other website be free to choose who joins? Probably, but how do you make it happen? You tell me. If you want to see what happens without controls, there are obvious examples where genuine Rangers supporters can sometimes be in short supply. Then there are websites who allow you to join freely and post what you want .... but if they don't like your opinion they simply ban you without warning ot appeal. Is that the freedom you refer to? Personally, I find VB a little too defensive of its borders but there again, VB is involved in actively challenging the anti-Rangers activities of some thoroughly nasty people. In any case, shouldn't they be free to run their website as they choose?
  18. He isn't admin any more but he was instrumental in starting the site before having to pack it in to focus on business. I'm surprised he wouldn't vouch for you unless he had a reason not to. Perhaps he wants to keep a certain distance from site affairs, I really don't know. I don't think anyone else should be put off by your own experience.
  19. I thought about doing that but he'd only set shroomz on me again.:box:
  20. I doubt they'd take that view at all. VB does tend to be a bit one-eyed but that's what you tend to get with mainly like-minded people. It sure is different but the sheer commitment of the members is quite impressive. There are quite a few who overlap between VB and Gersnet.
  21. It will soon be 50 years since I first watched the Rangers and I've seen a few legends. It doesn't make me an expert on legends but I've no doubt Derek Johnstone is one. He did far too much for this club over too many years ever to be ridiculed or rejected but there's no doubting his irritating stupidity at times.
  22. You could easily register on VB but you'll need to contact admin meantime and make your case for joining. You would have no problems with your posting history here and on RM. VB admin are generally less tolerant of visitors from the dark side and tend to cull non-posters on a regular basis. However, after their recent complaint to the PCC about the conduct of the NOTW, the gates are temporarily closed in an effort to keep that newspaper from infiltrating the website and using posts to get the site closed down .... which is fairly typical of that paper to be fair. Send a pm to Willhelm on RM and he'll sort it for you.
  23. Welcome to Gersnet. I'm amazed that any FF poster would harbour bad feelings towards Gersnet. It isn't Gersnet that bans posters for even mentioning the name of another Rangers website..... or bans members for posting any criticism of itself or the RST. Neither is it Gersnet that removes the name of another Rangers website from an articles and tries to claim credit for it. But hey ho, no doubt the folks over on FF have their reasons for wanting to be different when other Rangers sites are enjoying increasing cooperation. You should stay and find out why Gersnet is better in every way. You won't get the high volume you're used to but you won't get the trash posting either. You will get information and debate.
  24. Business plans don't get written in stone, they change all the time, for many reasons, some internal, others from outwith the organisation. Management should be used to changes of direction as they respond to the many influences upon a business. The fact is that DJ is a bloody fool who has harboured several chips on his shoulder since he stopped playing, some to do with failing to achieve recognition as a Rangers great, some for being snubbed in Argentina and never gaining the Scotland caps he undoubtedly should have. He has chosen his friends very unwisely and kept the sort of professional company that guaranteed his stature as a Rangers player would be thoroughly compromised. Basically, he doesn't know which hand to bite next. All of which is an huge disappointment to me because he really was some player.
  25. You're right to take the debate to a more constructive level. I will think on this but any meaningful reply will have to come later. Ain't work a nuisance?
