  1. I think you misunderstood what I meant. Rev McQuarrie told me that every CV submitted was reviewed. I believe that. What I meant was that if hundreds of names were on the ballot then the voters would need to have read hundreds of CV's to be properly informed, how many would have done that? I read folk elsewhere say that not only did they read the 35 or so CV's they also checked social media and googled for more info on the candidates, imagine doing that hundreds of times over.
  2. I think that there will need to be more thought given to the categories in future elections because some like "disabled" and "overseas" and perhaps my own "away fans" have special needs but others such as "ethnic minorities" frankly seem more politically motivated. It's hard to know who is qualified to represent "the fundamental core of their demographic " but if those in that category do not feel they are being properly represented then they will have a remedy at the online ballot box next time around.
  3. I would be utterly shocked if that was the case; though it is not entirely beyond the bounds of possibility if say there was only one candidate in a particular category and they wanted to create an election as I said to ratify whoever was elected.
  4. They could have done that; but there would have been literally hundreds on the ballot, it might have been fairer but how many of the electorate would have read every CV? A nominations committee is not an unheard of concept in many clubs and societies. I doubt Rev McQuarrie would be too happy if it was being suggested that certain people were excluded for reasons other than that there were better qualified candidates. One asusumes that is why there were 5 candidates in the ST category for example.
  5. NO. I most certainly was not. I applied entirely of my own volition because I felt I had the appropriate experience of representing fans at a high level and because I love the Club and wanted to try to do some good.
  6. I think ST holders were always going to be the bulk of the electorate but at least it was a constituency of 23,000+, which is 10x more than my local councillor for example. I agree that there is a lot more to be done on that front but you have to be a paid up member of RST or RF for example to get to vote in those elections and the same would apply to almost any group or society.
  7. I don't really want to comment too much on the process which is a matter for Rangers but I think it would be fair to say that they were not overwhelmed by candidates in that particular category (and a couple of others, where there were only two candidates put forward) and they decided to have an election so that whoever was elected would be properly ratified rather than awarding the other candidate a bye so to speak. That said, there are some extremely strong CV's among those elected, captains of industry, folk who have chaired high level boards and committees of one sort or another, people with outstanding management experience; and for the avoidance of doubt, that is present company excepted.
  8. Yes the Club brought it into being, and yes the club selected the Nomination Committee; but NO "the selectors did not select the "fans board". You might want to debate the categories and they might be adjusted in future since there were a large number of candidates in some categories and only two in some others. I believe there were "hundreds" of applicants so if there hand't been some form of pre-selection the ballot paper would have been as long as this thread. Rev McQuarrie told me that each application was reviewed individually but if you have evidence of malfeasance then I suggest you bring it forward. There were anything from 2 to 5 candidates in each category, a total of 35 I think in all; and there was a two week democratic election and the count was by a firm independent of Rangers FC; what else do you want?
  9. The first meeting is on 6 October but I think it will be more procedural than anything else.
  10. Isn't it the case that the Assembly by its very nature excluded the 75%-80% of fans who do not belong to any group and in any event at best it is limbo? Numerous people on here of varying opinions have said it has outserved its usefulness. This appears at least to be an attempt to capture as many different kinds of supporters as possible whether or not they are members of supporters clubs or things like the RST and RF which exist for a different purpose. Most importantly it is democratically elected. I'm sure that all any member of the new Board would ask is to give it a fair chance before you shoot it down.
  11. Wednesday, 24 September 2014 08:00 RANGERS Football Club is proud to confirm the inaugural Official Rangers Fans Board has been elected after Club Members voted for 12 candidates to represent their interests and engage directly with key Club staff. Following an overwhelming response from the fanbase, a number of high-calibre applications were evaluated by an independent Nominations Committee – Reverend Stuart MacQuarrie, former Rangers Captain David Weir, international rugby star Alastair Kellock and supporters Tom Mowbray, Mhairi McKenzie, Melville Curry, Ross Hardie and Holly-Jade Johnston – and Club Members selected 12 candidates from a shortlist of 38 to form the first Official Rangers Fans Board. The successful candidates and the supporter category they represent are…. Corporate Fans - Thomas Clements Disabled Fans - William Paterson Ethnic Minorities - Zia Islam Families - Christine Murdoch Glasgow/Govan Area - William Gillan Away Games - Alan Harris Female Fans - Alison Clark-Dick Match Ticket Purchasers - Robert Callaghan Overseas Fans - Gary Gillan Official Members - Tom Johnstone Season Ticket Holders - Alan Fraser Under 18 - William Findlay The 12 members will now arrange their first meeting and elect a chairman, vice chairman and secretary. As a Fans Board member each individual will have a responsibility to liaise with supporters from the Group they represent and ensure they best serve their interests at meetings with the Club. Following their initial meeting, the 12 elected members will have a public profile on the official Rangers website. They will be clearly identified as Members of the Rangers Fans Board and will be contactable by the wider fanbase via email to allow them to obtain feedback and questions from the group they represent. They will also provide those fans with updates after all meetings. The Official Fans Board will meet a minimum of 4 times each season and further meetings will be held between Club executives and the Fans Board throughout 2014/15. The Official Fans Board has been created to benefit all Rangers supporters and will provide a platform for fans to communicate directly with key Club staff in a structured manner It will also give the Club greater insight into the topics and issues that most affect and concern the wider Rangers fanbase and allow supporters to better understand the Club’s decision-making process on key issues. Supporters have the chance to play a crucial role in helping the Club achieve success on and off the pitch and the creation of this democratically-elected Official Fans Board is an important step in the Club’s Ready to Listen fan engagement strategy. Rangers Chief Executive Graham Wallace commented: “I would like to thank all the Club Members who took the time to participate in this process and the independent Nominations Committee for selecting candidates for election to the Official Rangers Fans Board. “Supporters have a vital role to play in helping Rangers achieve success on and off the pitch and the introduction of the Official Fans Board will provide the platform for more structured dialogue as well as providing the Club with a better understanding of the issues and concerns of the fanbase. “The Nominations Committee evaluated a number of high-calibre applications from Club Members and it is supporters themselves who have voted for the 12 candidates they best feel will represent their interests. “This process underlines our commitment to improving communications and engagement with our supporters and is another tangible step forwards in our bid to strengthen and improving communications with our global fanbase.” http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/7676-fans-board-elected
  12. That's a good point that I have been asked already tonight at Falkirk. According to the Constitution: The Role of the Official Fans Board Member As a Fans Board member each individual will have a responsibility to liaise with supporters from the Group they represent and ensure they best serve their interests at meetings with the Club. The 12 elected members will have a public profile on the official Rangers website. They will be clearly identified as Members of the Rangers Fans Board and will be contactable by the wider fanbase via email to allow them to obtain feedback and questions from the group they represent. They will also provide those fans with updates after all meetings. Elected representatives will be required to regularly attend Fans Board and other relevant meetings, potentially participate in sub-fan working groups and any other requirements outside meetings. Job Description Represent the Rangers fanbase allowing them to communicate directly with the Club in a structured manner. Help the Club get a better understanding of the issues that most affect and concern your category of supporters Promote positively knowledge and understanding of the work and benefits of the Rangers Fans Board Act in an appropriate manner at all times as a representative of the Official Rangers Fans Board and Rangers Football Club. Contribute to the work of the Fans Board by participating in at least one sub-Fans Board or working group and any other requirements outside meetings. Read, review and respond to email, documents and communications within agreed timelines. Provide regular updates to the other Fans Board members from the fans you represent and your area/s of expertise and knowledge. Attend 70% of all meetings subject to any exceptional circumstances (e.g. illness). Promote equality and diversity and ensure that people of different gender, race, age or disability are represented. Support partnerships and joint working with local communities and agencies from a range of sectors which will benefit the work of the Rangers Fans Board and Rangers Football Club Ltd. The RFB’s objects are: (a) To provide the Members with a voice and communication channel directly to the Club in respect of the direction of the Club including, but not limited to: (i) the matchday experience; (ii) supporter engagement; (iii) Membership; (iv) local community support projects; and (v) any matters that affect the Club’s supporters’ experiences. (b) To improve communication between the Club and Members; to represent the views of the Club’s supporters; to encourage and assist the Club; and to take proper account of the interest and views of the supporters of the Club. © To provide the Members with an open forum in order that all Members can express their opinions in a clear and structured manner to the Club. (d) To represent and communicate on behalf of the greatest possible cross section of Members. If you read all that together I'd say it's both; with a primary responsibility to your own constituency but an overall responsibility to fans in general. From the Club's point of you, I think the word "structured" is relevant. So for example if there is an issue that particularly affects away fans (such as those raised by TB) then I'd expect them to be channelled through me and I think the Club would expect them to come from me and if I have something that is an issue for ethnic minorities then I think it would be right for me to pass that to the person elected in that category (though it's hard to think of such an example). The difficulty might be where there is an issue for a disabled fan who attends away matches; but hopefully common sense would prevail. That said if someone particularly asked me to raise an issue that was outwith my constituency then I think I would first ask why they haven't referred it to the rep for that category and would certainly inform the rep before I took any action. The above is just my take on this, so far as I am aware nothing has been discussed and I'm sure that one of the first things the Board will discuss are operational guidelines.
  13. I don't see how it divides the support when great care has been taken to include just about every possible category of fan. Can you tell me how you reach that conclusion?
  14. Thanks for these thoughts TB. Drew Roberton Please pass on my details and ask him to get in touch or he can do so via the Club or if you PM me his details I will certainly do that. Causes for concern that always come up for away fans. That's a good list to start on. I am not sure about the profiteering thing but if you have evidence let me have it. I think but am not certain that there is a league rule about that but there will be ways round it I'm sure. I did notice at Alloa that £18/£9 was posted at the away gates and that is what we were charged, well I was anyway, not quite old enough for a concession. Children - again let me have the evidence. If that is a league issue I will pursue with Mr Doncaster. There is definitely an issue with small allocations and how to divide between supporters buses and those who travel independently. Again, evidence would be helpful; I will arrrange an early meeting with Susan Hannah, who I have always found very helpful. It is also my intention to ask for an ealry meeting with the head of FoCUS. Membership Scheme I share your doubts as we have discussed in the past. It is along way from what I would like to see at present and I agree that as the elected reps of the Members the Board must address this major issue. Board Meetings I also agree that quarterly meetings would be hopeless; I would prefer monthly; but I am only one voice and I don't know what commitments the others have until we meet. Minutes 19.Minutes 19.1 The Secretary shall ensure that minutes are made of all proceedings at all meetings of the RFB, any sub-committee, and any meetings involving the RFB. In the absence of the Secretary, the Chairman shall nominate another Elected Representative to take minutes. 19.2 A minute of any meeting shall include the names of those present, a note of all votes taken, outcomes, any relevant notes of discussions and (as far as possible) shall be signed by the Chairman or chairperson of the meeting. 19.3 The minutes of any meetings outlined in clause 20.1 shall be publicised to the Members on fansboard.rangers.co.uk and/or http://www.rangers.co.uk within 14 days following each meeting. The Club shall arrange for the publication on the website. I promise you I will work as hard as I possibly can on this and am confident that my colleagues will do likewise.
  15. You are entitled to your opinion but I think it is very unfair of you to condemn this new body before it has even had it's first meeting.
  16. I believe I have said here already that the assurance did not come from "them"; it came directly from Graham Wallace; and I was also asked if I believed it and answered in the affirmative. Some very strong characters have been elected; it will be up to them to ensure that it is a meaningful body.
  17. Surely one could forecast the first goal as an own goal; either that or if an own goal then there are no points for naming a Rangers player for the first goal; same thing really.
  18. I would like to thank everyone on Gersnet who supported my election to the Rangers Fans Board. As most of you know, I have followed Rangers for more than 50 years and watched them play all over Scotland and in 21 countries in Europe; but I have never been more proud than being elected to this position. It is a truly humbling experience. I will do my level best to justify the confidence that has been placed in me. Whilst I have been elected to represent “Fans who attend away games”, I will play my part in raising issues and concerns to the Club from the wider fan base. I understand that Rangers will be publishing email addresses for all members of the Fans Board and I am sure that they will be well used! As I have mentioned here before, I have been assured that the Fans Board will be much more than just a talking shop. I for one am determined to ensure that it is a valuable source of two-way communication between the fans and the Club. I look forward to working with all my Board colleagues to make it a meaningful and successful body.
  19. Can anyone date these pictures?
  20. Frankie;515507 I just exchanged text messages with Andy Kerr who says that he is "on RFFF but delegate attendance to another committee member"; which would appear to indicate that it is indeed on a representative basis. If so and Mr Dingwall is still a member of the RFFF committee, then it would beg the question, who does he represent?
  21. Quite so; an eloquent way of saying that their site needs an update.
  22. OK I assumed he was but perhaps there were other reasons.
  23. How can he still be on the RFFF committee if he's no longer on the Board of RST?
  24. There was a mini campaign to remove Mr Dingwall before he resigned from the RST http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=268953
