Pre-Season 2022/23 Megathread | [FT] Rangers 1 (Colak 24') - 2 Tottenham

It suppose it could have been the Bayern game, fifty years is a long time ago. 😉 -

To digress a little, I see both Rangers and Celtic are playing at home on Saturday, which is rare these days. I remember it also happened on a Wednesday night when we played Torino in the ECWC in 1972. I can't remember who Celtic were playing but I'll never forget the bricks coming through our bus windows after the match and a fairly cold, wet journey back to Perth. Those were the days! -

I don't think many would go that far but LB is in danger of becoming our weakest link if we don't strengthen soon. -
I say, did you think I was talking about you? Why on Earth would you do that?

Seven years! Tav has made a huge contribution to the re-emergence of our club and has to be the best signing in many a year. -
Has anyone considered the possibility of people having watched football coverage on BBC Scotland, formed an opinion and only then turned their back on it. Y'know, using first hand information to form your own opinion and acting upon it. This talk about experts is meaningless twaddle. Again.

"A disagreement between BBC Scotland and Rangers FC has limited the BBC's ability to report from Ibrox Stadium over a long period of time." I having difficulty seeing the climbdown in those words. It implies the BBC couldn't report from Ibrox when in actual fact they could have done so at any time but refused to do so. The BBC acknowledges a dispute and even its own role in creating it but completely fails to admit that the decision not to report on Rangers was its alone.
-
For me, this is meaningless. What exactly is it that you think this "agreement" will provide for Rangers or its supporters? I can't see me tuning in to Off the Ball or waiting with bated breath for the next report from SportSound. I haven't watched or listened to BBC football coverage for years and I see no reason to change that. The BBC offers nothing I can't get better from elsewhere. If it wasn't for @26th of footand his regular posts on the subject, I would have no idea what was said about Rangers on the BBC ... and care even less. Good luck if you think this will change anything.

Perhaps there will be, perhaps there won't, perhaps the sky will fall on our heads in the morning, perhaps there's a carefully concealed point in your post.

Well that was a bit special for a while in the second half. Team selection isn't going to be easy. Souttar or Sands or Davies? Jack was excellent but so was Lawrence. Etc etc etc. -

Who's the new boy at LB. I don't recognise him. -

With so many new faces, GvB has to use these friendly games to experiment, assess and verify. There's no way he can afford to focus only on winning tonight. The aim has to be to win our CL qualifier, not to beat West Ham or Spurs. -
In that case perhaps it's a good move after all.

I think what we see here is an admission that things are not going well for Club1872 and in typical fashion they take a decision that will ensure nothing improves. This must surely be the most pointless legacy of the dark days. It's hard to believe some people are still feeding it with money. The club has moved on and so should the support. As @Frankie says, we could do with a strong and relevant supporter organisation and Club1872 is simply in the way.

It is what it is. My main concern is that we don't let ourselves down like we did last season against Malmo. -

… making the point that widespread criticism by Sheffield Utd fans, justified or not, had zero bearing on his performances at Rangers. Unlike geology, in football the present is seldom a guide to the past -

In Lundstram's case, evidently not. -

Goldson-Souttar-Davies presents another good combination in that line up. I think Souttar often played as part of a back three at Hearts. -

I guess there are many things that go together to make a price and the news that Filip Helander is off to see a specialist meant that another CB simply had to be brought on before the remaining pre-season games. Leaving fees to one side I imagine Goldson-Davies is now the central pairing of choice. -

I'm interested in why he got stuck in the Championship for so long and I'm interested in whether or not at £4m he's value for money at Rangers. I hope he is and I trust our recruitment team but I'm not seeing an up and coming young pro who's ready to break through. -

I must be missing something. Where does a valuation of £4m for Ben Davies come from and why are we signing yet another CB? If he was a proven left back I could at least understand the attraction, if not the price. -

The issue isn't so much that Barisic can be off form, that can apply to anyone. It's that he is so poor for such a large part of every season. We do have a problem at LB that has been covered up by the unexpected rise of Calvin Bassey and now can't be ignored any longer. -

If this goes through and the terms are right, could it signal further transfer activity?
