  1. Well deserved recognition.
  2. I think international football reflects exactly the same financial disparity as club football and perhaps to an even greater extent. Other than an occasional blip like Denmark or Greece winning the Euros, success at international level is concentrated in very few countries. Only 8 countries have won 22 World Cups contested so far - the 5 big leagues in Europe and the three to leaves in South America. Ten out of sixteen Euros have been won by four of the 5 big leagues. The correlation between international success and the financial clout of the domestic league is almost total.
  3. It would be interesting to compare the average club salaries of different national teams. I've a feeling it wouldn't look quite so meritocratic. What it might expose is the way the best players in Portugal, Uruguay, Brazil, etc are being developed by rich club sides in the biggest leagues and are no reflection on the national setup they represent in international football.
  4. It's minor but you're right, something has definitely changed
  5. It's always been clear a certain element of the Rangers support is utter trash and completely at odds with the principles espoused by the club. Anyone denying this should urgently seek the help of Specsavers. They should have been rooted out long ago but the fact they weren't suggests they will always be with us.
  6. Rangers 4-0 Dundee United FGS Colak
  7. The return leg in Italy was played in the afternoon for some reason and we were given a half day off school to watch it. It didn't go so well and Scotland was eliminated
  8. Three days to go. The torture of international football is almost over and the humiliation of Dundee Utd beckons.
  9. It's worse than that. Apparently, despite the abundance of queer fannies, there were no women in that Scotland squad.
  10. How does the SFA impose sanctions when doing so would mean facing up to what will undoubtedly be seen as its own inadequacy over decades? And how does the Crown Office risk showing that it put a lid on this tragedy for 50 years? As much as justice needs to be pursued to the end, I will be amazed if it is ever served in this matter.
  11. Shit
  12. It is outdated and largely unwanted. Nowadays we go to war instead.
  13. Bloody international football. It's like the world stands still for two weeks several times a year and millions of football fans have to feign interest in games they'd rather weren't happening at all. The only interest I have is seeing Ryan Jack return uninjured.
  14. Alas you're right, a fully empowered CEO is more likely to emerge when you have a board dominated by one powerful shareholder. I think what we might have is a board where no one has secure control and everyone feels they need to keep a hand on the reins. I always thought Lawwell was Desmond's chosen surrogate rather that a normal board appointee, which is OK as long as he's competent but a disaster if he's not. I thought it was revealing that Lawwell's replacement didn't last 5 minutes.
  15. I felt Cantwell was the best player on the park and meant to vote for him .... but missed and clicked on the bloke next door. Aw well.
  16. The profile of these "specialist referees" will be very interesting. Presumably, selection will be along the same lines as the Compliance Officer.
  17. Is that another way of saying "we don't know what we're doing?"
  18. I think you're giving far too much credence to a very small section of the support whose brains are clearly being addled by close proximity to loud and annoying drumming.
  19. Like I said, I'm all for freedom to protest but I also believe in fighting battles you can win and pursuing causes that will actually benefit the club. Protests by people who can't handle their disappointment don't appeal to me.
  20. Beale's tenure must be as secure as any in football right now. That might change come may 2024 but not before and probably not then either.
  21. I think that's a shaky comparison but they have every right to futile and misguided protest.
  22. While agreeing with much already written about the protest, I tend to take a slightly different view and stand behind a simple question ... is any good likely to come of it? Of course, there are those among us who would claim success in disrupting the board and the removal of individual directors and shareholders but, leaving aside those motivated by personal grievance, it's very difficult to see the latest protest being of the slightest benefit to Rangers as a whole. All I can see is on the negative side of the ledger - fostering discontent & division, undermining supporter confidence and adding to the stress of those working for the club. To that extent I hope it stops here.
  23. Well said.
