The Scottish Cup Final: Rangers v Hibs

Recommended Posts

Didn't want to start another thread on this so will stick it in here...

BBC 1:00pm National news had a wee featured piece towards the end of the program on the Scottish Cup Final - McLaughlin doing the reporting from Edinburgh...it was all about the Hibeez, interviews with an ex-player and some fans on how they can bury their dismal record in the competition (lost last 10 finals).

Rangers were mentioned once - to let folk know who Hibs were playing.

Earlier today they did a feature and finished with, "Despite it being a cup final , Rangers still won't speak to us."

Good !

So breaking it down into last season and this, using the above you have :

2014/15

Rangers - 3 wins

Hibs - 4 wins

Rangers - 6 goals

Hibs - 10 goals

2015/16

Rangers - 3 wins

Hibs - 2 wins

Rangers - 14 goals

Hibs - 9 goals

I find that mildly interesting that even though we look defensively weak and open that our defence has allowed fewer goals this season against Hibs than last season. What is abundantly clear is that our attacking prowess has been far superior this season, which should surprise nobody.

In terms of results still close in either direction.

Hopefully tomorrow will be another "W" for Rangers... given my Mrs is a Hibbee I will be in lockdown mode if we lose.

Looking at these stats, it would be wonderfully symmetrical if we could finish the season how we started it, ie. a convincing Cup win against Hibs.

Wallace: Scottish Cup is chance to win first 'Rangers-type' trophy

Lee Wallace believes Saturday's Scottish Cup final is an opportunity to win the first "Rangers-type" trophy during his time as the club's captain.

Mark Warburton's side face Hibernian at Hampden Park this weekend looking to complete a treble of sorts after winning the Scottish Championship and the Petrofac Training Cup.

Wallace believes his side have performed above expectations in the Scottish Cup, adding that victory on Saturday would make a statement about where the club is heading.

"I don't think many outsiders would have expected us to go on and win the Scottish Cup," he said.

"I think the Petrofac goes without saying, we were of course expected to win that, we were expected to win the Championship and we've managed to do that in a certain way, an eye-catching way.

"We've been dominant on that front so of course it would be great for all involved if we could go and do that on May 21st and make it our own version of a treble.

"Finally we've got the opportunity, I've got the opportunity, with a unique group of players at a unique club to hopefully bring our first Rangers-type silverware back.

"Of course when we've went up we've won the leagues that we've been expected to do and it's a good chance for a lot of us to take a top level recognition and what could come if we get the right result on Saturday."

Maybe I am wrong, but "we" did not cut the ties with the BBC or BBC Scotland, but we took the press credentials of Scrote. Perhaps Scrote speaks of himself in the Pluralis Majestatis when saying "us", but the above might actually be a straight forward lie.

I think we all see the scenario -----

A phone rings at Ibrox.

"Hello, this is Scrote here. Can I ask ...." Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

From a bookies point of view, there's a few interesting options I think. I'm expecting an open match with lots of chances. Money to be made off the BTTS and over 2.5 goal markets, goal in first half is a good bet too. Could be in some profit here!

What odds would you get on Rangers BTTS and >3.5 goals?

Bet365 offering 13/5 on Rangers win BTTS and 2/1 on over 3.5. Can't be combined as an acca as they're contingent bets (bets have an impact on each other). To lay that specific bet you'd have to contact the bookie and see what they'd offer. If they could be combined straight, you'd be looking at about 10/1, so might get it offered about about 15/2 or so, give or take a few points.
