New manager rumours

After last night it seems to be as close as it can be without actually being signed.

Along with the rumoured investment, it is hopefully better times ahead.

Just a wee off point - What has happened to McGregor & Arfield? That has went quiet?

Might be they're announced when the new manager is confirmed.

Fair points and, as I said in this week's pod, it's the last paragraph Rangers supporters have to be most concious of.

With expected squad changes it's very unlikely Rangers will win the league again next year.  Can we accept that?

How can we not? It's so unlikely that to not accept it would not be being supporters, but some other word.   I know Souness won it in his first year but he was, I believe, as surprised by that as the rest of us, and he had a far better scenario than we now are facing. As we all know, it all went wrong the year after, showing how difficult accomplishing a revolution really is.

I desperately want us to stop their tainted ten in a row bid, but I even more desperately want our club to become Rangers again and all that once meant before I head into total dotage and shuffle off this mortal coil.  I'm more than prepared to be patient if progress is being made.  What gets on my tits is that, thus far, we've exacerbated the crimes committed upon us by floundering about and making wrong choices and bad decisions for the last six years and have never had a clear plan for how we are to get back to where we belong. that worried, and still worries, the f@ck out of me.

possibly it has been put on hold, or he has cancelled it is another possibility.

What is very clear since SG has been linked with us is that the whole of the Scottish gutter press seem to be in a state of panic! every article in the Scottish press is a negative one, compare them to the English press and highly rated pundits/ex players like Ian Wright/Shearer/Lineker etc who all seem to think it is a great move for him and Scottish football, you would think  they are a tad worried/scared?.

There are huge difficulties here for the average bheastly bigot. Having spent decades as wannabe Koppites, they're now faced with having to regard Liverpool as the enemy. It's not easy being a bheast you know. Will YNWA have to be sacrificed pro tem?

Thing is, the English media and most pundits probably have no real, first-hand idea of what goes on in Scotland at the moment. And whether Gerrard or McAllister know that is anyone's guess. That's why I said that the club has to screen them from the mhedia hordes somewhat, who are - quality-wise - scraping for crumps at the bottom level of journalism. The amount of negativity is still astonishing and despite their latest rampant showings, the Yahoos are far from the dominant force they were last season. Whether it was loss of form or motivational issues, they dropped points all over the place and in many ways, our season can also be described as one of missed chances. Probably The season of missed chances.

It is anyone's guess how they will shape up for next season, and it is even more guesswork of how we will shape up. Right now though, I just hope Nicholl and JJ get things back on track.

This includes not being afraid to set up defensively against Celtic with the intention of counter attacking. Our last 3 managers now have made the mistake of setting up to attack Celtic and each of them caused the club to be humiliated (MW 5-1, PC 5-1, GM 4-0 & 5-0).

This has largely been down to not recruiting players capable of sitting in and defending against a better team (defensive midfielders and defenders who can defend). This was Walter's speciality.

As for the football, we need a manager who can see for himself what is required and can communicate/motivate, optimaly prepared players to give it their best shot.

BTW, the reaction of the Scottish media, generally negative, obviously argues from a closer contact with the Scottish game and its realities as such. I would assume that MW and PC never really knew what they took up when accepting the job, and perhaps something similar can be said about Gerrard. He'll obviously know some things about Rangers, the rivalry and whatnot.

But does he know the current environment we have, authorities, referees, media and intensity? That's probably the reason some Scots wrote about the "poison chalice" that is Rangers FC, only to forget that it is actually not Rangers FC, but first and foremost all the aforementioned environment. IMHO, we need a rather solid and robust PR/media department, keeping the trolls and Yahoo-inclined mhedia chaps and "journalists" away from him, Ibrox, and Auchenhowie. We have been far too soft with this for essentially all I can remember bar the Souness and Smith era(s).

As we can see, only mentioning him as the next Rangers boss has them fall over one another and hardly a word is being said about the Yahoos title triumph and whatnot. If Rangers handle this cleverly, they keep the investment announcement secret up to the day of the Cup Final and blew their supposed "double treble" party as well ... or indeed let have Motherwell its day or two of glory.

Whoever comes in needs to be someone who has enough savvy to quickly weigh up that side of it and box clever.

Don't get taken down rabbit holes or give them ammunition they crave to use at a later date.

- Keep it simple and keep it about Rangers.

- Show ambition but don't create unreasonable expectation.

- Don't be confrontational unless it knocks at your door...and if it does, think before you speak (or re. the club, churn out a statement)

I don't think our PR team as it is or for example, our chairman (for his own numerous OGs) are particularly good sources of advice.
