New manager rumours

A whole article written about an off the cuff tweet - crazy what passes as Journalism nowadays :(

I wonder how Murty and the team feel with all this leaking - days before the Old Firm.

Given that most of the players won't be taking much notice of Graeme Murty now, it may even have a positive effect in that they'll know the new manager is watching them play in a big game.

This Yousaf chap is some kind of “government” minister but here he is tweeting about football at two minutes past nine.

Perhaps he was just starting his tea break having been at his desk since six.

It just occurred to me that if Gerrard came, we would suddenly have a huge ally in Liverpool and would have a great chance at getting some quality loan players we would never otherwise have got near. Everybody at Liverpool would be rooting for him, he knows their youth players very well and they would be very keen to play for him. On our budget this could be the difference between a title winning team and a distant second place.

The Scottish Government is such a well oiled machine (and has been since Salmond's palmy days in charge) that all any minister needs is a licht nieve on the tiller.

Warnock was interviewed a couple of years ago and claimed then he'd never manage in the EPL again. He explained that the type of players required to play at that level don't respond to his type of management. It was a remarkably honest interview. He said he's an organiser and a motivator and that works at Championship level and below. So if he does get Cardiff promoted he might become available, and if doesn't he might stay there for another season. I suspect the lure of possible European football might be quite appealing for him although he apparently lives in Cornwall and commutes!

You'd probably guess the source for this one.  The National!  I didn't know that their sister paper was the Evening timz...the word re finances came from a "source".....unnamed, obviously.

STEVEN Gerrard could become the next Rangers manager if certain financial assurances are offered by the Ibrox board.

The Evening Times understands that Rangers’ delegates, headed by director of football Mark Allen, met with Gerrard in Liverpool last Thursday in order to present a formal proposal to the former Anfield captain. He is currently mulling over the offer.

A source revealed to The National's sister paper that Gerrard wants to ascertain exactly what money is on the table for immediate investment purposes and until that is confirmed he will not make a decision on the post vacated by Pedro Caixinha in October last year.

Rangers chairman Dave King was at Anfield on Tuesday night as Liverpool beat Roma 5-2 in the opening leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final, while Gerrard was in the Ibrox director’s box last month as Brendan Rodgers’s side came from behind to beat Rangers 3-2.

The ball is believed to be firmly in Gerrard’s court now with Rangers keen to bring the coach to Ibrox.

Gerrard, who played under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, retired in 2016 and was appointed manager of Liverpool’s under-18 squad last summer.

Graeme Murty has assumed the position in the short-term but is expected to move on at the end of the season.
