  1. Just cannot understand how anyone can think this is anything but a great deal. (Providing we get the £10m by whatever method.) Aribo has been a great player for us. Despite Bowyer's protestations when he signed, we developed him into a better player, he's won two medals and played in a major European final (in which he scored). However, he now wants to move on. It could be argued that those 70 games last season was just too many as he has looked a shadow of the player he was. Regardless of where in England he goes, he will play considerably less games given the superior squads and lack of Euro football. That and the huge increase in wages will compensate I'm sure. We will miss him but I think the time is right for him to move on.

  2. How is it crap? Crap would be losing him for nothing in less than 6 months time.

  3. What, sign a player for 250k, get 2 good years out of him, and punt him for 10 million?. Aye, terrible business.

  5. A word of caution that many new and expensive players have joined Rangers in the summer, only to flop when competitive games came along. Better players should improve the team but new players guarantee nothing in themselves. What's important is what we do with the players on our books, new or old.

  6. The wages might make up for it but, no, Villa’s a better proposition than So'ton.

  7. I'm this scenario, Aribo would just see out the last year of his contract and walk away for nothing. Don't you think we've offered Aribo an extension? If he decided not to sign it, what are we to do? Lock him in a room and refuse to release him until he signs? £10M for a player who could sign a pre-contract in less than 6 months isn't derisory, it's good business.

  8. compo, we play in Scotland. If we want to attract young English prospects up here, then contracts like Aribo's are all part of that. I sometimes read Rangers forums and wonder where people get their ideas from...it certainly isn't in the real world.

  9. Considering we got him for next to nothing, we've had great value for money, he's going into the last year of his contract and most importantly, has a £10m release clause, I'd say £10m is a fantastic return. This is exactly what we need to be doing more of.

  10. First caller tonight. Best thing rodgers did was punt him. Despite the dross they have repeated lost millions on since he left.

  11. It isnt. This is being done out of a necessity. Of the 2006's only 6 have been handed contracts in the last two years. The desired quality isnt there, hence the mass influx of 16 yr old kids into the U18's. It isnt a change in direction of recruitment, it is a necessity because the locally sourced 2006's werent good enough.

  12. It's a short career and most players will try and make as much as possible during their career and I have no issues with that.

  13. And if you were a professional footballer it would also be 'just a job'.

  14. If someone wanted to double my wages, play me in a much better league and told me I'd no longer have to play competitive games on plastic pitches, I'd be off like a shot.

  15. If he goes to the Saints good luck,as it is more than likely a wage increase as he is unlikely to play in Europe and have "Ibrox" nights. However he might conceivably use it as a stepping stone to bigger clubs if he improves at the same rate as he did here.

  16. Good to see movement and a decent incomng fee if a deal can be finalised. I'd promote Lowry and look at other positions if any available funds from deal become available. He'll have been on a fair wage that can go elsewhere.

  17. Fire him? Give him a pay-rise / bonus. Signed for £250,000 and sold for £10M - great business.

  19. Disappointed it's only 10 million but what a signing he has been. Mind celtc tried to get him he was on the list of signings they wanted the cleaner leaked. Shame Hagi isn't fit yet to replace him immediately.

  20. Park was really really god as a scout. Rangers man to IIRC shame we ever let him go to Celtc.

  21. Absolutely, but my job is just that, a job, not the sport I've loved doing since I was a boy. And as for the Dross County analogy, there's some utter dull, soulless stadia/teams in England too. I bet Claudio Reyna is glad he went to Sunderland.

  22. If another employer offer you a job and five times your current salary, would you regret accepting it?

  23. Imagine how disappointed you'd be, looking back on your career, thinking you'd swapped a packed Ibrox on European nights, the place rocking as yet another team wilts under the lights.... For St Mary's and the mid table drudgery that follows.

  24. The thought that Septic have strengthened is a little bit wrong as they have signed two players who were on loan so mostly same squad for them.

  25. I think Sands is a bit of a utility player - can play RB, CD and DM. Very handy to have around.
