  2. Israel are a UEFA member and not in AFC Asia & Australia for obvious reasons Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia & Kazakhstan aren’t in Europe either but are UEFA members. When the USSR was dissolved in 1991 the FA’s of the former republics were given the choice of joining UEFA or AFC

  3. You cannot leave Slim Jim out of any Rangers team.

  4. Every ten years that pass, another decade disappears from the first hand experience of Rangers fans. We're now losing the 1940's and soon the 50's and 60's will follow them into the shadows of heresay. Before you know it there will be none of us left who saw us win our only European trophy. All of which leaves you wondering how many great Rangers players and teams are now just unknown anecdotes from our long history, lost from time and memory. And the Baxters, Greigs, Laudrups, Coopers, etc will all follow them in due course and become just names on paper. So whatever names we put in this hypothetical team, we pick only from a very small sample and none of us have any idea how our choices stack up in the long pantheon of Rangers players. Most of our one-time players are utterly hidden from sight. It's quite a thought.

  5. The challenge is a most worthwhile exercise and it concentrates our minds during another international break. The team structure is the problem ie any formation will create a problem for any demographic utilising the forum. Continually, I reference my memories of thoughts often expressed by Grandfather and old man. My paternal Grandfather was born in 1889 and regularly attended Ibrox from the age of eight years. He left a collection of Wee Blue Books. He insisted the best Ranger ever was Neilly Gibson, better than Baxter. He played in bars not studs, he played on tattie fields and, he played with a heavy rain sodden laced bladder. He was known as, 'the Pavlova in football boots'. I suspect even Compo and Scott7 did not witness Neilly play? However all said and done, sometimes a firing squad must be assembled ..............

  6. No, not anti-Semitic, but it would be anacronymistic (to invent a word) - which is almost as severe a crime to some on this forum! Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Israel in UEFA because of the anti-Semitism of many of their AFC neighbours?

  8. Not at all. I see Hagi scored Romania’s winning goal against Israel last night.

  9. Seen him play one Sunday in a fund raiser for some hospital he could still pass a ball but the amazing thing was he had a large vodka in hand and never spilled a drop it's got to be .Jim Baxter.

  10. That’s some team developing. The position shown in the diagram isn’t left wing. The position shown belongs to Jim Baxter.

  11. Having 5 being geographically in Asia makes more games. Having the break up of the Soviet and Yugoslavia opened things up which is fair enough and moving from 8 teams in Euro 92 to 16 in Euro 96 was a good call but now the set up is giving teams byes to the tournament with such games in the Nations League. Because teams have a back door way in through the Nations league it makes even more meaningless games in the actual qualifiers. Qualification is getting easier, if Albania has qualified then that says it all. Plus I noticed Slovenia play Kazakhstan in the final group game with winner takes all - if Kazak go through then the Saudis will instantly want to join the Euro set up.

  12. Probably in the modern setup Baxter would be a left midfielder

  18. If I say it's left-wing, it's f*cking left-wing.

  19. The illustrated position is traditional left-half which became left-midfield. God knows what it’s called now. True wing is wide on either touchline.

  20. Oh, Hagi. I had almost forgotten about him. Get him back! Swap deal for Lammers?

  21. I also loved Albertz. But....Baxter just has to be in this team.

  22. I thought he didn’t get anything as it was in his contract if he was dismissed inside the first 12 months he got nothing. Same for GvB

  23. I didn’t know they were playing. Snatching a draw from the jaws of defeat and already qualified. That’s not traditional Scotland. Maybe the coach knows what he’s doing.
