  1. A couple of years past at the Rangers AGM, I thought a chap from Edinburgh asked a good question. He was mid thirties and told as a lad of travelling through to Ibrox on the supporters bus. His old man and other adults in the club bunged him a couple of quid and he entered the Rangers shop, knowing he could purchase a bar of Rangers chocolate and a club keyring. He reminded the Board that dozens of other children did likewise because a fiver got you a couple of items. He ended by stating there was nothing in the shop these days for under fifteen pounds, why? I have a couple of nephews and a niece, I want to give them all an Easter Egg. This morning I went over to Ibrox and was surprised and appalled they no longer stocked Easter Eggs and have no plans to do so in the future. I remember the shop used to stock a selection of Rangers themed eggs, the eggcitement of receiving a Rangers crested mug containing a choccy representation of warmth, shelter and, sustenance. We are playing Hibs at home on Saturday, the club should roll away the stone and resurrect the eggpectation of indulgence. There was an opportunity this week for the club to receive a bit of good publicity. The Orcadian shopkeeper that over ordered several hundred Easter Eggs on the island of Sanday was looking to offload. Bung the RNLI and take the eggs and get Broxi to hand them out pre-match. The receiving kids would have been eggstatic. We used to sing at this time of year : There is a green hill far away Without a city wall Where our dear Lord Was crucified He died to save us alllllllllllllllllllllll together now, the cry was no Easter Eggs. Sort it Rangers.

  2. Apparently our girls did the exact same thing in 2022 and posted photos at that time and nobody said anything. Just looks like anything to take the gloss off a Rangers victory by those with a hatred for all that our club stands for and achieves. It would seem this now even extends to the wummin's game.

  3. That all came out an hour or so after the match. I gob on the actual Heart of Midlothian whenever I venture past it. 😜

  4. He should certainly be on more than 1 goal and 1 assist given the way we play and the level of opponents we face. Perhaps I want too much from him, like maybe just once every 10 corners he gets it past the first man, or that he can actually tackle in a defensive position or prevent a cross from coming in. You know, old school full back stuff before all this xA nonsense was being used to try to prove that a player everyone can see is sub-standard is actually almost standard in one of 100 categories. The facts are that despite improving hugely, he still is miles short of being good enough IMO. I would try to make a profit on him in the summer, he is clearly desirable elsewhere, but I don’t see him moving anywhere so he will continue to get my full support during matches, and my honest assessment on Gersnet.

  5. Back in 2012, it was hard watching a Rangers team cast into the lower reaches of Scottish football. There were a few bright lights; Lee Wallace's commitment to the club, Barrie McKay's verve and, Lewis Macleod's determination to prove, 'there can be only one'. I thought Lewis shone brightest, undersold by David Somers for £900,000 and, two appalling knee injuries at Brentford saw the diminishing of what could have been a stellar career. He is only 30 years of age, I wish him every success as Rangers Academy Coach.

  6. £6M for a player we signed for £250,000 and who has captained with distinction would be hard to turn down. It's exactly the trading model we require. Ridvan is the exact opposite - paid a high fee for him, he's failed to deliver and we will be hard pushed to break-even. I understand that players require time before a judgement is made, but try telling that to the likes of Dessers, Sima, et al who were written off instantly, and some, like Dessers is still being written off even though he has contributed more and been here less time than someone like Ridvan and who are lauded for mediocrity. Weirdly, the fans in our support who continue to write the likes of Dessers off are the ones who tend to laud over Ridvan.

  7. Don't think we'll get an update until Clement's pre-match press conference.

  9. On balance I think I'll trust Philippe Clement to reach to best conclusion on Ridvan Yilmaz. Call it a wild hunch if you must but I think he might even be more qualified to do so than Gersnet. 😉

  10. Agree with that, he looked to have it all albeit we were operating at a lower level, and was the brightest of the new players coming through.

  11. And here’s the banger in of the goals, Lawrie Reilly of the Hibs. I saw him interviewed on the telly mentioning the respect that existed between the Curtain and the Five sides. He said he never wanted to leave Hibs but if they wanted to sell him he would have gone to Rangers. Thank God he’s not playing on Saturday, nor Joe Baker nor Neil Martin. I wish Colin Stein was - for Rangers of course.

  15. Slightly off topic, when I was a youngsters, I joined a programme collectors club and alokg with programmes i purchased at Rangers games, I managed to build myself a decent collection, including the programme for the Rangers v Stoke benefit match where we received the Loving Cup. Also had every Rangers News from around 1979 to 1990, all FF, No1, Blues Brothers, Aye Ready fanzines as well as sporadic fanzines from clubs all over the UK I stupidly stored these in my loft unprotected, and a lot got damaged. Will need to dig out what I managed to salvage and pass them on to someone who collects such things.

  17. Love topics / threads like this, learn so much! Obviously my past hero's are a little more recent than others as I'm a little younger (and it's been a few decades since I've been called young, so thanks 😀). As for Weissmuller, I grew up being taken to the local Star cinema to watch reruns of the old Tarzan films by my Grandparents. Was only later I found out he was an Olympian. Born in Romania and represented USA. 5 gold medals in swimming and a bronze in water-polo, not a bad haul, then stardom in films. One of the best competitive swimming records of the 20th century and set world records during his career.

  18. I’m just getting started, Bill. This is really for dotards well into their second childhood. You’ve got a year or two yet before you begin to approach that stage. God knows what young @CammyF is doing here. His observations are very welcome nonetheless.

  19. Interesting point I’ve never thought about but it’s right. Jock Shaw was the first of the Curtain to retire at the end of season 1951/52 but played only twice that season neither time against the Hibs. The previous season, 50/51, he played in eighteen matches including a SC second round at Ibrox against Hibs (2-3 in front of 102,342) when all ten of the Curtain and the Five were on the park. Neither league match featured the tout ensemble. The Five played together for the first time in season 49/50 and encountered the Curtain in both league matches so that looks like only two league games when the unstoppable met the immovable. Don’t bother to marvel at my phenomenal memory. I got all this from David Docherty’s excellent book, The Rangers Football Companion. It only covers 1946 - 1986 but it’s great for teams, results and attendances with the odd bit of narrative and some photos.

  24. Saying 7-10 days on RR. Given our track record with injuries since I have been old enough to support Rangers under Souness, but even more so the past few years I fail to see how anyone can be anything but pessimistic conclusions with injuries.

  25. You specifically brought up assists. I just took it to its logical conclusion. There was actually a fuller discusson above about his all-round stats and qualities. The sarcasm is unnecessary. I think it's absolute madness to punt a player because he's not the finished article at 22-years-old. Not only does he still have plenty of scope to improve, it is also terrible management. We should be punting the aging players and keeping those with youth and potential. (Saying that, if someone came in to give us a profit on him, I'd take it. I'd take that with every player.)

  26. Has anyone even heard anything about the extent of Ridvan's injury? Seems to be a lot of posters jumping to rather pessimistic conclusions.

  27. How many assists do you think a full-back should be providing? Are you thinking he should be putting up Tavernier numbers? Take Trent Alexander-Arnold, who I think we can agree is the most creative FB in the PL; He has 7 assists from 34 games, which is around 0.20 per 90. If we extrapolate that to the 13 games Ridvan has played, you would be looking at around 2–3 assists. I would also argue Ridvan assist output is better because his xA is around 3.5. If our forwards were any good he'd be sitting at 3–4 assists. He is creating the chances. TAA also has two goals. Moreover, Ridvan is only 22. Do you not think players can improve? I think it's worth keeping him for another year or two, and if the injury record continues, then sell. Punting him – and any player – because he's not exactly what you want at this exact moment is madness. The sensible thing to do is replace the aging Barisic and keep Ridvan.

  29. I must admit I am surprised he has been fit for this long, I thought he had only managed a handful of games between injuries. Looking at your link, 1 goal and 1 assist in about 13 games worth of minutes between league and scottish cup since Xmas reinforces my thoughts that he is nowhere near good enough, and we must look to replace this summer or next winter at the latest. While I am pleased to see he has certainly improved his overall play and doesn't give the ball away as much as he used to, he is still fairly poor defensively IMO and not providing enough goals/assists offensively. He has now had the run of games and settling in period so there are no more excuses, he just isn't what we need. However he is very well thought of back in Kebab-land so hopefully we can make some money from him, as he was bloody expensive for such a limited player so hopefully that value has increased over his time with us, winning trophies and playing high profile games in Europe will certainly do that on highlights reels.

  30. That statement from Hearts is an utter joke. It doesn't even merit a reply.

  31. Agreed ..... and I feel something similar about mens football in general, which is almost always a snore-fest. Nowadays I'd rarely think of watching football that didn't involve Rangers but I'd willingly watch rugby or cricket or even tennis. I've concluded that I support Rangers, not football, so it could be being played by hamsters but as long as they were Rangers hamsters I'd be watching.
