Ok my man, lets make it 25 a cup and 50 for the league. You might need to take out a mortgage for all the winnings you will have to pay me (or you might do a Colshy and get yourself banned to prevent yourself from having to stump up) !
-
Agreed, a side bet on cups and the team has to WIN the cup - how much for that bet ? I might bet on Torres too - except his odds will be poor this year.
-
OK, I will take that bet Jon. 50 quid on the final league position it is. We could do smaller bets on cups too if you wanted, up to you though !

You know I am right.... even when you say I am wrong ! :fish:

1. I didn't ay he hasn't been working on his game Jon. But any player who wants to truly be a GREAT has to constantly work on their game. He needs to CONTINUE working on it, that is what I am saying. 2. As I said, great things can be defined in many ways - some would say 70 goals in 105 games is doing "great things", others however would look for more than just goals (which is why there is so much debate about Boyd) - others want more of a contribution in team play and goals against the better teams. I am not saying that 70 goals is not great, just playing devils advocate. 3. I agree with you Re the need for a new McCoist - we have all been saying it for a long, long time. Boyd has McCoist's natural instinct to know where to be and when - it is the rest of his all-round game which leaves him sadly lacking behind McCoist - and this goes back to my point #1 - he needs to continue to try to improve. If he can show that he is willing and, more importantly, ABLE to improve then he is most definitely worth keeping. 4. I firmly believe that had Negri not taken the huff he would have become a legend and scored even more goals than Boyd. He was class and was a much more rounded player than Boyd. Mols was a fantastic player who offered so much more than Boyd IMO, except in the goal-scoring dept - he always required two markers because he was so dificult to pin down. They all offer different things but Negri & Mols were better players than Boyd. Boyd has better instincts than Mols IMO - all hypothetical now though. 5. We can't say he WILL keep improving, none of us know that - we can only HOPE he improves. If he puts forth the effort then great. If he isnt prepared to buckle down and try to improve his game then he will quickly become a bit-part player and will be moved on.

Was thinking the very same thing Jon boy. Name your bet as long as it is reasonable !
-
In a non-gay way I hope Barry...
-
I hope you are right Jon. For me the best business we have done this post-season has been tying up players like AM and Cuellar on improved contracts. When you have players who have PROVEN themselves they can save you a fortune if you just keep them happy - rather than selling and then having a rough time getting suitable replacements. I know we made a TON of money from Hutton buthow badly was he missed in the 2nd half of the season ? He was also like having two players as he was a good defender and our most potent attacking force - you almost didn't need a RM as Hutton did that job too. Replacing him is proving very, very difficult and that is why sometimes it is better to keep the players who will be vital to the team (ala AM and Cuellar) - even more so given they both form part of the spine of the team.
-
Indeed, yet Scottish clubs can't. Strange ruling but one which has been there for a long, long time. He will score goals for us of that I have no doubt - do great things on the other hand ??????? Depends on the definition. If he is to be a bit part player next season then we should take the 3.5 million. I would keep him if he is to be part of a 4-4-2 but only if he ALSO works on areas of his game which are blatantly obviously lacking.
-
No different to Liverpool then....
-
Cotter was right - just name this site Boydnet and be done with it. Great news Re AM though - wonder if it is a way of the club ensuring any bids are large bids now that he is on an extended contract (ala what Borat did last season)

Errr..... the lower reaches of the Premier League are clubs who are NOT much bigger than Cardiff. Cardiff have grand designs on making the EPL themselves so I would hardly say that the lower EPL reaches are "much bigger" clubs. If Cardiff offer us 3.5 mill for Boyd I would bite their hand off for it - he could definitely be replaced. I am in the Cammy camp though - Boyd is one where I won't be bothered either way, if he stays or goes. I told you that you and I agreeing would come to an end Jon !
-
Would Partick really be a good move with the state of their pitch ? Perhaps as they would need to be more focussed to control the ball and Thistle do play a nice brand of football, right ?
-
Dont get used to it Jon boy !
-
If anyone offers us 2.5 mill for McCulloch we should bite their hands off. As Jon says, we are covered at LM and 2.5 mill would be a decent recovery on a guy who is 30.
-
Aye but still not as much as Rafa Jonny boy
-
They didn't deserve to even qualify, right Jon ? :fish:
-
They won the SC in 1998 which is reasonably recent - and obviously Romanov wasnt around then. The only other success I can see in them is when they got 2nd spot to grab a CL berth - but we all know that was more down to our plight than any success of Romanov. Their debt levels are astronomical and they have not brought in any players of note which he promised. I can see what you are saying Barry and perhaps to an extent he has brought them more perceived success - but if I were a supporter of that club I would be worried !
-
Some of them I do..... but I have a Jambo supporting friend out here who simply will NOT believe that Romanov is bad for them Those who are being blinded by his "moonbeams" (which has to be said are even worse than SDM's) deserve all they get.
-
Barry, I would imagine that Frankie would close the thread - he did so when a similar one Re Boyd popped up at the weekend.
-
I highly doubt that someone posting a rumour on a fan website will have a large negative impact on Boyd's performance. As Barry says, people will ignore what they want and believe what they want.
-
Frankie, get him lined up for an interview for the main site - he says he hopes to contribute to Gers fansites this coming season !
-
That is a cracking top BD - and that sponsor would work just a treat ! Need the 5 stars though.

Perhaps you are correct but there is the difference that Gow has played professional football whereas you have not. He has also played well in the league in which his current employers are operating. He therefore has history at that level whilst you don't. Again I think you could be right. They are different types of player but no-one can deny that Adam has, at times, produced the goods at a higher level - scoring good goals in the CL and being the highest scoring midfielder in the league. Gow had highest number of assists in the league at a lesser club. Different types of player for sure. We haven't had the chance to gauge this but Adam has had some howlers this past season and we don't know how Gow would have played if given the chance. Agree completely. That is the beauty of playing for any team - if you are playing in the first XI but not playing well you will be chastised and wanted out of the team whilst someone else sitting in the stands will have become the favoured player.... without ever having even played to prove themselves. That is the debate here IMO - Gow simply hasn't been given a chance to prove himself (games are needed for that, the training ground isn't sufficient). This is where I think Gow's undoing has come. WS picked his favoured XI at the start of the season and that included Beasley as first choice LM, rightly so IMO. Given we were winning games and doing well in both the SPL and Europe it became very hard to change the team (especially with the demands the fans have on success) - when Beasley got injured Adam got the nod, IMO, because he gave more of a goal threat from set pieces and had played well the previous season. As the season wore on it became very difficult for WS to give fringe players an opportunity as we were chasing FOUR trophies. "Better the devil you know as the one you don't" type mentality and, being honest, I think this was the right course of action too. This I disagree on. Gow has played 2 games for us and I cannot see how that would qualify as "plenty of chances". Yes he has played in the reserves and perhaps that should be an indicator of level of player - but until a player gets a run in the first team and with better players (admittedly also AGAINST better players) you just won't know what level they can achieve. I don't think he has been given a chance to show his merit to the first team. However, that said, WS almost took us to an historic QUADRUPLE - who can blame him for sticking with the old guard ? This season though I would like to think that he will drop off-form players which he didn't do last season. Given we lost the league and BADLY need it back I don't see this happening though.
