Completely agree. When any of us are asked to leave our jobs what do we all expect..... SEVERANCE. I highly doubt that any of us will simply walk away and say "thanks for the memories, thanks for ditching me, been fun, bye". Now.... if we had another employer ready to step in then perhaps there is mitigation - but when you are unwanted from an employer I would say that MANY people would still expect what they are contractually owed or, at the very least, be left whole. These players are working for a living like the rest of us (how much they earn or how much they work for it is, to a degree, irrelevant). They make commitments re expenses and mortgages too, just like the rest of us. So if the only team offering them a way out is offering them significantly less wages then I don't see why they should have to just blindly accept it for the moral good when many many people in other walks of life wouldn't.

Very dependable squad players IMO. If Weir in particular was a squad player last year rather than first teamer then we could well have lifted the SPL - he was a first teamer and at his age to play 60 games in a season is incredible. If we had a younger partner for Cuellar and Weir as back-up that would do me. I am by no means saying that losing the SPL was Weir's fault - my main point is that even with a big squad last year we didn't really have anyone WS was comfortable using instead of players like Weir. If Weir was back-up then you know you will get a dependable player who can play 10-20 games a year who will allow your main CB (same goes for other positions) to get some much needed rest.

http://www.sportinglife.com/football/scottishpremier/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/08/07/03/SOCCER_Rangers.html&TEAMHD=scotspremiership Veteran defenders Christian Dailly and David Weir have both signed new deals with Rangers. The Scottish pair have each committed to staying at Ibrox for another year after impressing last season. Dailly, 34, quickly adapted to life at Rangers after joining on a short-term deal from West Ham in January, while Weir, 38, was brought to Glasgow by manager Walter Smith shortly after his own return to the club 18 months ago. Weir insists he was always going to extend his stay after discovering that a new offer was on the table. He said: "I'm delighted, I've enjoyed every minute since I've been up here. "Football-wise there wasn't any decision to make. "As soon as the manager said he wanted me to stay for another year, I was delighted. "I didn't think I'd be here for two-and-a-half years. "In football you can't afford to look that far ahead, especially at my age. "So initially it was just a short-term deal but I'm delighted now that it has stretched and stretched." Weir's partnership with Carlos Cuellar in the heart of the defence was crucial to Rangers' success last season, as they won the Scottish Cup and CIS Insurance Cup and narrowly missed out on the UEFA Cup and Clydesdale Bank Premier League trophies. The former Everton man played a total of 68 games for both club and country in what proved to be an epic campaign for the veteran centre-half. Weir is now hoping to have a significant part to play when Rangers' new season gets under way with a Champions League qualifier against Santa Coloma or FBK Kaunas later this month. He told Rangers' website: "You want to play every game. As a player you want to be in the team week-in, week-out. "I obviously want to be involved and that will be my aim. But it's up to me to try to do that."

Surely the right footers who play on the left can easily be converted to right footers who play on the right....... Maloney out right with Beasley out left woudl do just fine !
-
I would agree but also add to that.... players who have MOVEMENT - every one of those players gave great movement, into channels to take balls, pulling defenders away etc - something that only JCD really does for us up front right now.

I think the risk of violence is part of the reason the English dont want it - that and the fact they dont need a game against us.
-
I don't think they are necessarily scared - it isnt just the last two years they have avoided an Auld Enemy game - they have been rejecting the idea for more than 10 years.

Like Boyd is in your wet dreams ?

The Buffel discussion is ALMOST as boring as the Boyd one - ALMOST.... to jonc and johnnyk !

YA DANCER !!!!!!!!!!!!! (maybe.....) My company have just told me that I have to be in attendance at a series of Board meetings in Lucerne, Switzerland which means I have to change my travel plans for our trip to Paris. Instead of flying out on July 30 I now have to travel on July 19... which means I will be back home for the first leg at Ibrox - I feel a family outing coming on - I am definitely taking my 3 yr old if I can get tickets, he is Gers daft and would be over the moon, as will his Dad. Or in your case making sure they hadn't died of old age

I didnt say they had a right to start hitting out at people Pete. In reading that article it says this person was pushed to the ground, right ? I just don't necessarily think that this equates to brutality. And being pushed to the ground isn't necessarily "hitting out". Let me get this straight though, I don't condone the police heavy handedness. All I am saying is that being pushed to the ground doesn't have to equate to brutality - the serious injuries suffered suggest otherwise but it doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

I disagree with this in relation to Boyd (surprised ?) Attacking football doesn't require Boyd. He scores goals, he doesn't contribute to attacking football. We should be looking at remaining difficult to break down but also attacking at pace. And that is where Boyd doesn't fit in, he has no pace Given that he doesn't create chances so why does he have to be in the team when what you state above is that we have lacked creating chances. Surely the lack of chance creation is down to the midfielders, not the strikers ? We need pacy wide midfielders, a creative midfielder to play beside BF or KT and then chances will be created even with our formation. That doesn't mean Boyd has to be the striker. Have to give you credit though Jon.... you are quite inventive in creating threads about something and managing to turn them into Boyd threads !!

Maybe it is me but I don't see how it is police "brutality". Seems to me that the cops were trying to get people moving out of the area and this poor guy ended up in the thick of things and got knocked over by them. The police had a hard job that night, of that there is no doubt - and I don't think they had the time to casually ask someone to move along. I certainly don't condone some of the actions of police that night but that story could easily be construed as "heat of the moment" actions from officers who were under extreme pressure.

I cant see it being Gomez either, he looked gash at Euro 2008 (if it is Mario Gomez you are talking about). Would take Santa Cruz though.

modman, sorry but that team looks disjointed. As BD says, Webster is NEVER a RB and Whittaker is wasted at LB. Much better to have either Papac or Stevie Smith at LB, Whittaker at RB and Webster beside Cuellar. Davis isn't the answer wide right and I would go, probably, with Novo unless we can bring a RM in - we could also use Beasley as RM with Lafferty playing LM. Up front I would like to give Velicka a chance too but I think that if we go 4-4-2 then we should play Boyd and have either Velicka or Miller doing the donkey work. The problem with the 4-4-2 is that we will ultimately end up with BF and KT beside each other and there goes the creativity - unless of course the wide midfielders assist the front two. Like the graphics though. EDIT : Not to piss on your parade but you don't have enough U-21's in the squad for the regulations....

If he is demanding 120k a week then I would prefer Arsenal sold him for the 28-32 mill they are aparently being offered. That is crazy money - having said that, if he is on 30k a week perhaps we can get him on a freebie and give him 30k a week........ aye, rriiiighhht!
-
Aye but I am thinking that if I had committed murder I would have been out for good behaviour by now !

Is this really a General transfer rumours thread or a "I'm in love with Liverpool and here are THEIR rumoured signings" thread ?
-
Lovety lovety ??? I can't believe I will be 10 years married next week !

Was Zidane not over 40 mill ? I think the EPL suits better than La Liga - would prefer to see him stay even though it means Man U have a better chance of winning the EPL.
