RST Chairman - "Boycott of Lloyds can't be ruled out"
maineflyer replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Don't take it personally BH, at least you said your piece in the end and I think you were rightly given the credit you deserved for doing so. You certainly were by me and others on this site. However, this stuff about collective responsibility is nonsense, the stuff people always hide behind in lieu of standing up, speaking out and risking the cozy relationship with their peers. Here's the thing ... those who genuinely want to make a difference are never really concerned with these minor protocols and always aim for the big targets. It's too late now but the person who spoke out and took on the RST careerists in public could have taken over the RST and gathered the wider support around him .... it's the leadership we always talk about but never find and it will never emerge by playing at committees. Just my view of course but what would I know about such elevated affairs?- 15 replies

I think you'll find that if you're aware of these particular issues then so are most others, myself included. That wasn't what I was suggesting.

My proposition to the OP was that these drip-fed reports about Whyte or whoever are probably mischievous at worst and futile at best. It's rank speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if Rangers are a far worse mess than has ever been made public and that selling the club is therefore a far more difficult proposition than is been reflected in these media articles. Further, that the damage has been self-inflicted courtesy of the negligence and willful contempt of ......... let's just call him 'the bastard' since we're staying within the bounds of absolute accuracy and salve the consciences of the easily offended. Lloyds bank is clearly within its rights to do what it is doing but is equally clearly choosing to treat Rangers rather differently to many of its other debtors, whether this reflects its opinion of Murray or Rangers is less clear. However, the fact that Lloyds is able to manipulate our current woes is still down to the dreadful management of the biggest blowhard and most duplicitous ..... bastard ..... ever to own a share in Rangers. While the RST chooses to issue empty, meaningless statements about possible action against Lloyds bank, it might have salvaged some crumbs of respect if it had chosen to similarly address the incompetence of David Murray years ago, instead of allowing itself to be used by him. The mess we're in is almost beyond belief and while many more supporters now appreciate that Murray isn't the saviour they previously fought to assure us he was, I still think we're so obsessed with style and so lacking a clear opinion of who we are that we're really no closer to being ready to act collectively. There's a hell of a waking up still to come and we deserately need to stop listening to the likes of the RST, the club mouthpieces and the media if we're ever to get anywhere.

Or too busy checking their moral compass. Seriously, concerted effort is a non-starter among Rangers fans. The last twenty years have seen to that.

RST Chairman - "Boycott of Lloyds can't be ruled out"
maineflyer replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
What a pity you didn't say as much when you were on the RST board as you did when you left. Why is it that so many people are prepared to accept the office but cannot open their eyes or mouths until they leave? Bearwood Bear does make you laugh though, what a prize fool!- 15 replies

I'm warmed by the soft glow of your concern, as always, but please don't think for a moment the I either regret or apologise for my description of Murray. I chose the language knowing full well how it would ride with the more detached amongst us but it expressed perfectly how I feel about him. It's touching to see so many assume I merely strayed from some righteous path and should be steered back by admonitions that I couldn't give a fig for. Don't waste your time ..... I already know you would never be seen to use such descriptions so there's really no need to confirm it by getting personal with me. I have no interest in these absurd criticisms not is there the slightest chance of being influenced by them. I just find the mock offence to be so predictable, it's like drawing cartoons for al Qaeda.

That's been the bane of the Rangers support for years though rbr .... endlessly precious and mortified by the superficial. After all, these are the people who invented "the Rangers way" all by themselves and insisted on ramming it down the throat of anyone who stepped outside their moral convenience. No wonder we're such easy targets.

Yeah yeah, you're moral credentials are flying high and everyone is so proud of you. Well done.

I find I've finally accepted the permanent decline of Rangers, which I now expect will move closer to the level of Hearts and the rest of the chasing pack. A couple of years ago I was still livid and wanted everyone to protest against the neglect that was driving this disintegration, now I accept that most Rangers fans would rather bury their heads than face facts. Give it another 20 years and Rangers will only dream about filling Ibrox. We've been betrayed by our own shareholders, our directors and, if we're honest, the majority of our support. In my lifetime the club has gone from a national treasure to a pariah club with every social stigma firmly attached. It's a fucking outrage but you can only howl alone at the moon for so long. I hope I'm wrong but I believe we only see a fraction of the problems at Rangers and most of us couldn't guess how badly we've been raped by that fat legless bastard (no apology).

Rangers is all but unsellable. That's why there has been no sale and probably won't be any sale. At least that's my take on it.

RST Chairman - "Boycott of Lloyds can't be ruled out"
maineflyer replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Utterly baffling, why don't they just stop wasting God's good air and stop pretending they give a monkeys what Lloyds do. If there is anything more pointless and ineffective than the RST then it has yet to reveal itself.- 15 replies

Inhibiting free and reasonable debate on Gersnet

You'd know a lot more about it if you paid for 'special advice' like everyone else. But since you're a needy case, have a gander at Triple Plate Junction (Ldn). Down 8.4% today to 6p and well worth a punt if you can stay in up to a year. Could be stellar if you've the patience. Of course it could also bomb like a stone. -

Pete, Thanks. I agree with everything you say. I'm relieved and glad the thread has been re-opened since it is both interesting and there was clearly no reason to close it in the first place. You've also explained that the banning wasn't the precipitate action it initially appeared to be. I have tended to avoid much of that gentleman's postings as I really couldn't understand many of his points and wasn't aware there was any problem, he certainly didn't cause me any grief. I still think it's fair enough to want to be informed about what constitutes cause for banning and if the initial response hadn't been to refuse explanation I wouldn't have felt compelled to return to this thread. Thanks again. -
Inhibiting free and reasonable debate on Gersnet

See that's what I mean. It should be an issue for all members to be aware of what would justify something as extreme as a banning. I've no interest in who got banned, only in a fair and open forum where actions are accountable and transparent. Too many forums elsewhere are run for the benefit of their inner circle but until recently Gersnet appeared entirely different. I've had my share of 'infractions' and deserved every one, never complained at any decisions to warn or ban, even took myself offline for a lengthy period when it became obvious I was out of tune with the forum. However, I see little to justify today's banning and I'm afraid being told something isn't up for discussion both increases the suspicion that this banning was at least partially based on personal preference as well as regrettably moving Gersnet towards the FF school of forum management. When I stumbled upon Gersnet some years ago I was struck at first by the cliquishness of some of it's core membership but then charmed by the honesty, maturity and plain fairness of Frankie and others - maybe the truth is that we're starting to miss the influence of that same experience. It's been noticable on more than one occasion recently that those who might be encouraging participative debate are perhaps the first to get embroiled in aggressive confrontation. Rather than refuse discussion, these are the very issues that should be debated. If we can't discuss the way the forum is moderated or question the decisions of those who do that moderating then we are already in a place we shouldn't be. No one is challenging the need for the forum to be moderated or the right of moderators to take effective decisions - but the quid pro quo is that moderators must always be willing to justify those decisions and to respect the right of members to require such justification. No? Anyway, if the "closed" sign is the only response then I guess the intent is clear enough for all to read. -
Inhibiting free and reasonable debate on Gersnet

OK so the original thought behind this thread was partly tongue in cheek but the recent decision to ban members that certain admin clearly feel uncomfortable with - and again close threads to prevent others to comment on that action - is really quite concerning and reveals something I hadn't previously thought was part of the Gersnet identity. When I chose to question the need for anyone to be banned, which I happen to think should only be a matter of last resort, the snide retort that came from admin before closing the thread only further diminished the credibility of the forum and suggests to me that there are a small number of established members who are now tending to insist that the forum should reflect their own views as a priority. I don't believe that should happen and, while they may find it convenient to dismiss this criticism, perhaps they will at least take a moment to consider whether Gersnet has actually been enhanced because an easy target has been banned or whether silly cartoons is an appropriate or mature way to drove someone of their membership. I don't mind if no one agrees with me on this but I do feel the tone of the forum is changing recently and not necessarily for the better. Instead of further ridiculing me, perhaps admin could puffer some reassurance by explaining why a member was banned when some of his most ardent critics have used at least as aggressive debate on many occasions. -
The past is the place for regrets but surely there is nothing else for anyone to worry about except the future. If you stop caring about the future then you've already given up
-
What a fucking waste of time, pouring over what happened two years ago. I'd worry more about this year and what lies beyond. This year means Walter Smith whatever anyone thinks of him. Beyond that, well who knows. However, far more important to the fortunes of the club than Walter Smith is the unbelievably negligent performance of our once-lauded owner, the bastard David Murray. Or has everyone forgotten that any hope lies in changing the ownership of the club.
-
We might need a new striker soon enough.
-
I just watched some highlights and, while I might be wrong, I don't see any sign of David Murray at the ceremony. Which would be entirely fitting since the arrogant bastard never understood what Rangers was about or gave a fig about the average supporter.

Not sure I see the point of this. Smith is gone in a few months. Are we asking for him to go sooner? Otherwise, there cannot possibly be any surprise about Smith after all these years, he is what he is and will never be any different. Better just to thank him for what he's achieved and leave the criticism for when it might make a difference. Much more concerning is what kind of manager McCoist will be.
