I know mate. Always makes me think of the glory days of the 93/94 season. Can still remember the feeling of sitting up to watch the Champions League ties. (Was still quite young then and moved away from Scotland aged 5/6 so missed out on going to the footy young. )

Arsenal 1-0 WBA WBA 1-3 Arsenal Didn't work last season Tony.

Wont be hearing this at Parkhead this season: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgomX3qD-iA]YouTube - UEFA Champions league theme song[/ame]

I'm hoping the Gallowgate Galacticos try and play their supposed brand of exciting football. Try and play Arsenal at their own game and there is only going to be one winner. Only maybe Barca and a handful of other clubs could compete in a game of pure passing football.

Ha ha. I dunno, I thought the OP was an interesting read. But most people just like to re-hash the same tired arguements rather than discuss something "new".
-
As Craig and Fraser say, that's the perfect scenario. But just so long as Arsenal win.
-
I have admired the way Arsenal play football under Wenger. Will be looking for them sto spank the tattie munchers tomorrow.
-
Both good points. The latter being particularly disturbing.

Knew I was going away for a few days and was in a daft mood so fancied stirring it up. Many missed the point. A few didn't. And there were one or two interesting points made or funny comments posted. Job done.

Ha ha. I know that feeling. Will no doubt be on there at some point? Maybe start another pointless pissing contest on there.

Aye, sometimes good posts can be lost on there through the high volume of traffic. One of the negatives to weigh up against the positives of such a high number of threads being started.

£500k for Adam £2mil for Boyd. Bain will be chuffed. Really earning his £500k a year. Sack him now and over the next 5 years we could recoup those fees from his wages saved and keep a stronger squad.

Btw, read yesterday that whilst we have shipped out 9 with none in Celtic have had 11 leave with 3 in (effectively reducing the squad size by 8). I know people will likely talk about how we should set our sights higher than merely being better than them. However, competing in Europe requires first that we are better than them (and the rest of the SPL but it is traditionally a two horse race). Last year we were the better squad. This year both squads have been reduced by roughly the same amount. Whilst it is arguable we have lost little in the way of quality and contribution Celtic have lost players who, whilst limited, were significant members of their squad and it is yet to be seen if they have really been replaced. It's going to be a long and fraught season and this one more than most may very well come down to luck. Luck with avoiding injury and suspension.

From what I saw of the sordid Rangers for me (?) episode I would be inclined to avoid all STV publications and broadcasts and advise them it was due to Esplin. Quite "mope-ish" behaviour though.

I don't know if the fact that football fans now take a greater interest in all aspects of the club, above and beyond results on the field and including aspects such as finance and the clubs PR and branding is due to: a) On a personal level at least, as I age and (hopefully) develop growing maturity, I recognise the implications of each of these aspects on one another and ultimately performance and results on the field (which is what it's all about at the end of the day). b) The internet age and the easier access to and freer exchange of information. c) A social trend (or whatever you want to call it) of changing attitudes of football fans and a growin interest into all aspects of their club mediated by a factor as yet unidentified by myself or possibly as a result of b. There is of course the possibility that it is a combination of these and other factors. I too find I am far more interested in other aspects of the club than merely results. Personally I would be a growing interest in finances primarily down to (a) and (b). A growing concern with other aspects such as the clubs reputation would be primarily down to (b) I think and as well as a growing awareness of how the club are portrayed in the internet age there is a perceived greater abiltity to "fight back" as the common man is given a voice through various mediums. However, due to my age (being only 24 I can only really comment on the experiences of a football fan from the 90's onwards) I may well have a different perspective to many others. Results are still the be all and end all for me. There is only a greater focus on other issues when we are not achieving on the field of play imo. For the vast majority of the support afflicted with a general malaise towards being an active supporter of the club (more active than merely turning up every week anyway). However, I would say this last paragraph is less applicable now than it was a couple of decades ago. I dunno if I've just wandered off on numerous tangents or if that supports the views expressed in your OP? Edit: Ps. Bloody accountants. BD!!!

Looking forward to that. Squad is looking fragile as it is. Would be excellent to have him available from the start against hearts.

Can that post and many on Celtic forums about their chances not be summed up as: How else do you explain someone saying he is not underestimating the talents of Wenger, Fabregas, Arshavin and the rest and then state that he thinks the mighty talents of McGeady, Brown and Boruc will deliver a comprehensive 3-1 victory and that they have a very good chance of progressing.

Pretty much sums up my reaction. Managed to follow Bmck's reasoning (I think) without knowing anything much about the Peloponnesian Wars. I don't think watching the 300 or reading a few novels about Spartans counts does it?
-
Can't really disagree with that. Just trying, as ever, to put a positive spin on it. Though if we don't buy a CB soon even I may struggle with that.

Will be good to get some new blood for the match previews.

Rangers 4 - 1 Falkirk: Player Ratings and MoM Poll
Super_Ally replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Didn't want him signed as he mostly been an impotent attacker his entire career. Also not fond of the purple patches followed by longer patches of dross. Overall more bad than good last year. And the goals scored was a major shock as he approached a reasonable goal tally for a first choice Rangers forward. Hopefully this weekend was a sign he has at last found some shooting boots as his second goal was clinical forward play. -
Pay as you play was the reputed rumour but I didnt give it much credence so couldn't be bothered to post the full rumour.

Started for Rangers this weekend. Along with an Ulsterman and an Algerian. Granted Mendes and Papac will likely return for McCulloch and Smith. But that's still pretty good going. The succesful niar team was mostely scots supplemented with good foreigners. We've not got that class of player right now but it's a good system to follow. Along with a smaller squad size, a nucleus of Scottish (and British) should hopefully help foster a strong team bond and unity. (By contrast the tims started 10 foreigners).

McGregor is 4-5 years younger. And imo slightly better. Better long term to keep the younger guy who we'll get more years out of?
