I honestly have no idea what that means.

Thing is, we don't exist or operate in a vacuum. Like other clubs, we're continually trying to hit a moving target. In the short term, the right actions will occasionally have poor outcomes, and vice versa, and it's only over the medium and longer term that you see the real value of a clear road map.

That's management based on fear rather than objectives.

It comes from decades of inept management in all aspects of the club but you're right about short-termism. No clear vision, confused and often conflicting objectives. You might say that for a long time the club reflected perfectly the panic that typically afflicts the Rangers support. As a distant but interested observer, it seems to me the current regime is the first in a long time that has actually treated the club as a proper business, particularly in respect of a clear but flexible road map. To see some of the criticism being directed towards people who are largely succeeding in their work is a bit dispiriting if I'm honest. It would be a far better thing if we focussed on where we want our club to be 5 years from now, instead of knee-jerking about this weekend or this season.

Looking at the pessimism and vitriol generated by our participation in this transfer window, it's clear a lot of fans think we are at the end of our rebuilding mission. I think the truth is we still have some distance to travel before you could say the job is anything like done. Recent income has certainly helped but the club remains relatively weak in financial terms and you don't improve the situation by being profligate in a transfer market that offers absolutely no guaranteed return on player investment. I think the club has over-performed in the last year or so and left the door wide open to continue our progress. Happy days.

Have you considered the possibility that the board is looking for an opportunity for shareholders to sell the club or at least a big chunk of it. Any valuation will be largely based on demonstrating financial strength, not just boots on the park. "No debt, money in the bank, successful player trading, Euro final, income growth, etc" I'm not saying that's what's happening, only that there can be many agendas in business, not all of which are obvious.

I have a feeling when the annual accounts are released you will find that our financial options are nowhere near the level you think they are. Unless the money is actually in the bank today then expenditure has to be supported by debt and it's clear the board has little appetite for that. My guess is we need another successful selling cycle to allow what you want to see.

It is what it is and unless anyone here has the means to force the club into selling or buying players then I think there are 3 basic choices..... 1. Indulge in wild mood swings between despair and catastrophe 2. Fixate of the bright side, combining optimism with confidence 3. Take a realistic approach and wait to see how things turn out At the moment, for whatever reason, number 1 seems to be the favoured choice amongst Gersnetters. Is it PMT ahead of the Celtic game?
