I think we've seen enough of Sakala to form an opinion on him. There are good and bad points - he's a decent squad player but I'd be hoping for better players in our regular starting XI.

We needed upgrades all over the pitch and we're in the process of doing that. Beale's not daft.

Danilo seems to be quite highly thought of. I don't watch Dutch football but he must be decent at that price. Hopefully we can still afford to improve the defence a bit.

I was in CF1 today and that drum and the UB songs generally got on my tits a bit. It's like modern music - no tune and the rhythm is dull. Ach well, I'm getting auld. We had the best songbook in the world but its getting lost amongst the monotonous dross.

Looking forward to tomorrow's match against Hamburger SV. Hopefully we'll see a decent game and I'm sure the atmosphere will be enjoyable, although the German side might not have as many fans over as we'd have expected (high travel and hotel costs being the main reason). I've been over to Hamburg twice and attended one match at the Volksparkstadion (they lost 1-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt, who I'm really developing a dislike for). The people over there were very friendly, particularly in their own HSV fan bar a couple of stops from the stadium. Now the clubs have an official partnership it's good to finally get a friendly match. Here's hoping there's a return leg in Hamburg sometime soon.

Home and Third are both quite smart. Away is nice but I'm not a big fan of white football shirts (don't get me started on white socks). Thankfully, I'm a grown up so feel no requirement to purchase or wear the things. Best 2023/24 shirt I've seem is the Umbro Dynamo Dresden shirt, which is an absolute cracker. Special mention to adidas, who have given the scum two of the worst football shirts I have ever seen (reptilian scales and criminal fingerprints all over them, suitably enough).

You know a person has an inferiority complex when something as simple as a colour can anger them.

The only buying that matters when it comes to Roofe is if there's a club willing to take a gamble. It's unlikely, so he's probably going to be here for 2023/24.

The strips sell big when first released, just prior to Christmas and whenever the discounts appear, so whether we win in it or not is largely irrelevant, in terms of money made. Obviously, I'm sure we'd all rather win the league in a shit strip (Helicopter Sunday) than lose it in a great strip (late 60s, early 80s).

I genuinely prefer it when we stick to red, white and blue but there's a real joy in knowing how much annoyance any orange causes amongst our many detractors. It's just a colour and one that is very prominent on the flag of the Republic of Ireland.
