Sky Sports understands Rangers are eyeing a move for Birmingham midfielder Morgaro Gomis.

Rangersspacer.gif are believed to be in the market for a new midfielder and Gomis is thought to be on Ally McCoist's wanted list.

Gomis is currently on the first-team fringes at St Andrew's with his only appearance coming as a late substitute in the Capital One Cup win over Barnet.

The 27-year-old made his name in Scotland after a successful spell with Dundee Unitedspacer.gif between 2007-11, helping them win the Scottish Cup in 2010 before joining Blues on a free transfer last summer.

McCoist is thought to be a fan of Gomis and sees him as a key addition to his side as he looks to rebuild his squad after a number of departures this summer.

Blues boss Lee Clarkspacer.gif could be willing to let Gomis leave for the right fee as it would free up funds for him to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

He would be a good signing I think.

Wouldn't mind Gomis signing for us always thought he was decent whilst at United

On different subject what ever happened to prince Bauben always thought he was a player too good for Dundee Utd

When him and Gomis ran the Dundee Utd midfield they used to cause us major problems. Not sure what happened to him though.

I'd love Ally to pick Gomis up. He's a solid lad that is also flexible in midfield and after 150 SPL games he knows which way the wind blows. Should add some balance to our game. Maybe with an experienced player like him there's some pressure on our young midfielders like Hutton and McLeod, pushing them a bit.

Express ...

RANGERS are ready to launch an ambitious £200,000 bid to land Swedish international Daniel Larsson â?? the man who dumped them out of last seasonâ??s Champions League.

Ally McCoist has identified the Malmo striker, who scored the winner for the Swedes at Ibrox and helped them to a 2-1 aggregate win in the play-off round, as a top target he would like to land before the close of the transfer window next Friday.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the year and McCoist is hopeful he can persuade Malmo to do a deal now rather than wait and lose him for nothing.

Larsson, who is also attracting interest from Dinamo Kiev and clubs in Spain, has already indicated he would be prepared to move to Scotland â?? even if it means playing in the Third Division.

Ibrox officials believe that would only be a short-term measure as league reconstruction is likely to see them fast-tracked back into the top flight within two seasons.

McCoist knows it could be quite a coup if he could land Larsson, who has been capped five times by Sweden.

Rangers also expect to finalise the signing of Greek defender Anestis Argyriou before the weekend trip to Berwick Rangers.

The former AEK Athens defender, 24, had a medical at Murray Park yesterday and his agent was locked in talks with chief executive Charles Green last night.

McCoist is still looking to add to his squad and one name that has been put to him is former Dundee United star Morgaro Gomis.

A young French defender signed, a young Greek defender lined up, a young Swedish striker targeted, an experienced attacking midfielder targetted ... interesting few days ahead.
