So we have had quite a few high profile home friendlies, something we definitely ought to pick up when the the time is right. I would think that next season would be ideal because whilst we should be in the SPL we will not be in Europe (unless we win the SC/ get the dispensation this season) so a few games v EPL or European opposition would be a decent build up on the non European midweeks.

Dundee at Dens Park.

Well done, Dundee.

Manchester City, possibly the richest club in the world, are certainly a top club financially, if not in terms of trophies.

I see no value for City in it unless to give their squad players a run-out. At Rangers, we surely want to see top teams fielding their top players instead of witnessing their fringe players up against our best players.

I do not believe Rangers would have made, as has been suggested, seven figures from a pre-season friendly at Ibrox.

A well-run Rangers could - in the future - but not this lot.

Talking of that match...............

Premier League champions Manchester City suffered a shock pre-season defeat away to Dundee.

First-half goals from re-signed midfielder Gary Harkins and trialist Luka Tankulic were enough to see off Manuel Pellegrini’s side at Dens Park, which included new goalkeeper Willy Caballero and midfielder Fernando.

Cabellero, whom Pellegrini signed from his former club Malaga last week, saved a penalty from Harkins that rebounded back for the recent signing to fire home the opener.

And 10 minutes later Tankulic, a former Borussia Dortmund youth, smashed in the second via a deflection off Dedryck Boyata.

An agitated Pellegrini made nine changes to the team at half-time, with only £4.4million Cabellero and Wales midfielder Emyr Huws staying on the pitch, but they were unable to go better than Stevan Jovetic’s chance just before the break, which he squandered against the side-netting.

Striker Alvaro Negredo and midfielder Samir Nasri, who both missed out on the World Cup with Spain and France respectively, missed with half-chances in the second period but, other than those, City struggled to create.

Dundee, meanwhile, will have been delighted with the return of goalscorer Harkins, who has begun his third spell with the newly-promoted Scottish Premiership side.

Harkins first signed for Dundee in 2009 and enjoyed a successful two-year spell in which he scored 22 times in 76 appearances, before signing for Kilmarnock. He then returned for a brief spell in 2013 and has signed again from St Mirren last month.

Dundee are taking a close look at 23-year-old Tankulic ahead of a possible contract for the German-born Croatian and he will have done himself no harm with an impressive performance and a well-taken goal.

Tankulic is a striker, most recently at Dortmund’s Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg, where he played for Wolfsburg II further down the German leagues, after a stint with Mainz.

Manchester City’s next pre-season friendly is against Hearts on July 18 before they travel to the USA to face Sporting Kansas City.

So does this 2-0 defeat of Man City augure well for Dundee and spell doom for the Citizens for the upcoming season? Are the Mancunians up in arms and "want the scalps" of their coaches and players for that ... like some native wanted it from us after Brora?

DB should be put out to grass or he could do auditions for a one man prematch Cheerleader Act.

More realistcally, he could wear a sandwich board and walk up and down Edmiston Drive sending out the message that "The Omnishambles is HunkyDory".

That would be rather knee jerk i would have thought whereas ours was coming, almost expected, not surprising, long been coming, asked for even. What a ridiculous comparison in any case. City fans have not been bemoaning their football set up under such an inept manager for as long as we have. Rangers fans worries are wholly justifiable whereas any City fans calling for Pelle out after losing to Dundee would just be ridiculous.

Do you not get sick of contradicting everyone, speaking against the grain, trolling, being the lone voice, trying desperately to use big words so people think you know what you are talking about?

The above post is just another indirect dig at anyone who dare question the football at Rangers. It's a joke and wholly unnecessary.

Agreed, one off's certainly happen in football and a first friendly of the season for the Premier League champions without a number of first team squad isn't something to get worked up about. However the following is more than a one off:

2012-13 League

Peterhead 2-2 Rangers

Berwick Rangers 1-1 Rangers

Annan 0-0 Rangers

Stirling 1-0 Rangers

Rangers 1-1 Elgin

Rangers 1-1 Montrose

Stirling 1-1 Rangers

Rangers 1-2 Annan

Rangers 0-0 Stirling

Montrose 0-0 Rangers

Rangers 1-2 Peterhead

2012-13 Challenge Cup

Rangers 2-2 QotS (QotS win 4-3 on pens)

2013-14 Challenge Cup

Raith 1-0 Rangers

2013-14 League Cup

Forfar 2-1 Rangers

You could add many more embarrassing results in there mate. In fact, in the 3 years Ally has been manager, of all the clubs who have beat us in competitive matches and there have been many, only one has had a bigger budget than us. Frightening.

Being accused of trolling as early as Monday, well well.

Gribz ... thanks for the reminder on these games. The SFL 3 season really was a downer on many frontiers, not least when it comes to the amount of quality players we had to play.

2012-13 Challenge Cup

Rangers 2-2 QotS (QotS win 4-3 on pens)

Nice one that, being the better team over the whole game, yet suffering an offside-equalizer in injury time from a player who should have been red carded before ... and losing to a penalty shoot-out.

2013-14 Challenge Cup

Raith 1-0 Rangers

Yep, Football Fortune is a nasty bitch, 22 shots on goal and no end product, being all over them all afternoon, but they snatch one rough-and-tumble goal late on. The beauty of the cup and surely never happened before. Raith, ICT, Morton et al spring to mind ...

2013-14 League Cup

Forfar 2-1 Rangers

A real downer indeed. Football has somesuch in store, just ask the Spaniards or the Brazilians.

What was the real point in this episode then? You would expect some sort of common sense when it comes to friendly games. If a Brora happens to us, it does not spell the end of the world or is a mirror of the "ineptitude" of manager and players alike. It is what happens all over the place in pre-season games without having any effect whatsoever on the management or the club or the upcoming season. Maybe some should simply attempt to learn that lesson ... not that they usually have had it about 30 times before anyway.

These was just the stand out results not even mentioning prior to administration and the ugly wins which if you listed would be an even longer list.
