The big thing with looking at other markets is that their pricing is most likely not over inflated, plus players will be keen to get a foothold in UK football (ie. big money move to EPL etc).

I actually find it quite bad that a players quality is apparently judged by transfer value - look at Joe Garner....£1.5m price tag yet only scored 3 goals in 19 apps, Yet Joe Dodoo has 4 goals in 16 apps and was signed for £250k.

 

I believe there will be an abundance of raw talent within the African, Scandinavian, Australian leagues just waiting to be discovered.

 

The Dodoo vs Garner financial comparison is a red herring though bud. The Dodoo fee was because he was a free transfer and we only had to pay the cross-border development fee

Arsenal's Gedion Zelalem near loan to Dutch club VVV Venlo - sources

 

Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem is being lined up for a loan move to Dutch side VVV Venlo, sources close to the player have confirmed to ESPN FC.

 

Borussia Dortmund considered a move for Zelalem in this month's transfer window before opting against the move and it has left the way clear for Venlo to land the United States youth international on a temporary basis.

 

The pending move was earlier reported by Dutch outlet Telesport, which said a deal could be done by Tuesday.

 

Zelalem, 19, joined Arsenal in 2013 after being spotted playing in America and he made his first-team debut in January 2014 at the age of 16 in an FA Cup tie against Coventry before going on to make his Champions League debut later that year.

 

The highly rated midfielder spent last season on loan at Scottish giants Rangers, helping them win promotion back to the Scottish Premiership as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wanted him to gain first-team experience.

 

But Zelalem has not established himself in Wenger's star-studded first-team since his return from Rangers, with his only two appearances this season coming as a substitute in the EFL Cup.

 

A loan to the second-tier leaders Venlo would allow Zelalem to continue his development by playing regular first-team football.

Why? They're hardly undiscovered leagues, are they? The African Cup of Nations will be hoaching with scouts, Madrid have signed a kid from the Swedish league. And anybody who's watched the A League for any time will know it's mostly absolutely fuqing terrible but that good prospects will be snapped up: Man City's owners even have a club in the A league. We should look for players everywhere we can but the idea that there's all these world class players who've stayed mysteriously hidden from everyone else and we can pick up for no money is surely a pipe dream.

There was a scout on talk sport the othet day. He said scouts arent even going to the african cup. The players are already well known.
