Gersnet Prediction League - World Cup Brazil 2014
Tannochsidebear replied to Zappa's topic in Rangers Chat
Im in. Hopefully I remember to put my scores in this time! -
Couple of points I hope you can clarify about the meeting please Greg, Firstly, I am right to say this is nothing to do with Rangers First, and that their non-rangers supporting office-bearers will not be in attendance. I am supportive of Rangers First personally, but this is supposed to be for and about Rangers supporters, and I know some I have spoken to are hopeful that this is not a RF PR stunt, which I am sure it's not but would like the point nailed from the outset. Second, can you confirm that there will be a proper agenda published in advance, and strictly adhered to. It is very easy for these types of meetings to go way off topic, and it really needs a strong chair to keep it on track. Cheers if you can respond.

I fully expect a comfortable league win, and here's why. The players we have are good top tier level players, who have allowed their standards this season to slip as there was absolutely no competition. The added competitive nature of the two Edinburgh teams for the coming season will see our players know they will have to up their game, which they are perfectly capable of doing. Although there are teams called Hearts and Hibs in our league, they are unrecognisable from the Hearts and Hibs teams we played in the SPL last time we were there. Hearts are full of kids that are not that good, hence the points total they achieved last season (even giving back the 15 they were deducted). On top of that they have got rid of their better players since the season ended, and will no doubt not be replacing them with anyone of pedigree to trouble us. Hibs are a dreadful side, and have just released 14 of their best players in a cost-cutting cull. The other sides in our division like Alloa, Dumbarton, Cowdenbeath, will pose no threat to us, but hopefully they will try to play football against us and not just park the bus as every side has done to us the last two years. With the opposition being a better standard, I would hope the standard of football will be better to watch, and not just glorified training sessions where we try, painfully at times, to break down teams that will not change formation or attack even when losing. I expect us to win the league by between 15-25 points, pretty much the same difference as we would be ahead of good Hearts/Hibs teams if we were all in the top flight. I have heard we are 1/6 to win the title next season, although a quick check of all the bookies websites shows that no markets have been formed for the Scottish leagues yet (reconstruction anyone?!!) so we need to wait and see what the bookies think, and they are not usually too far wrong as last seasons 1/40 for us and the scum to each win our titles indicates. Although like most I can see great faults in Ally's style of play, tactical nous, and choice of assistants to ahem, assist and advise him, I cant see us not winning this title comfortably. The two Edinburgh teams will fight it out for second/third and Falkirk/QoS battle it out for the last play off place, with Raith, Livvy, Alloa, Dumbarton, Cowdenbeath making up the numbers and looking to avoid relegation so as to get another crack at the (possibly) two Edinburgh clubs if they fail to win the play-offs.

I am sure I read 16th June somewhere. It will be that week for sure.

Walter Smith Q&A this Friday – Questions
Tannochsidebear replied to WATP_Greg's topic in Rangers Chat
In true Walter style it would be made up of 7 defenders (5 of which were right backs), and one up front!! -
This wasn't FOCUS this time, but your point remains a valid one when reviewing other court cases.
-
I actually got to see the behind the scenes evidence of what happened in the concourse that day, and I am not surprised that the cases have went the way they have. A major Police over-reaction if ever I saw one, with one officer in particular setting the whole thing off by pressing a panic button when there was absolutely no need to do so. While not a fan of their pyro nonsense and some of their songs, I am absolutely delighted the UB got the verdicts they deserve in this case.

What amazes me in this story is why do the current board care about the contracts of Green and Ahmed, who supposedly are no longer in any power at our club. This board slated their regime in the 120 minute review, but now all of a sudden are protective of Directors who no longer are anything to do with the club, and had gone before any of the current board were in situ. More evidence of the power behind the throne?
-
move on where Rab?
-
I agree with all of that. However I am at a loss to see where change is going to come from. It is not the individuals on the board that need to change entirely, it is the power behind the throne that needs changing. That only changes with buying them out, and nobody has the money coupled with the desire to do so. In an ideal world we could have a Dave King/ Jim McColl type guy with the ability to buy the powerful shareholders out now, and then ask the fans to fund a new share issue to get us back to the top. With a proper board in place full of respected businessmen like Wallace (or the chap from Dundee we tried to get before)but without the binds, the fans could finally put this decade of hell behind us and move forward with the focus ON the pitch.

Nice strip, we could do worse than have it as our own change kit this season. Hope this is a huge success for Ricksen. One of my least favourite players ever to have worn the famous Rangers shirt, but this illness he has is truly heart-breaking for him and his family, and with some proceeds going to charity towards this disease it deserves to be a sell-out.

Part of me wants Hibs to stay up to avoid the SPFL getting an Edinburgh derby to market, as the agreement between the leagues means that the second tier will be thrown crumbs and most of the tv money is kept in the top tier (and the top 1 of the top tier at that). However Hibs v celtic is still a marketable match, so stuff them. The tv companies wont want to broadcast hamilton v celtic, in their one horse race again, so thats what they should get. Try getting a top flight sponsor for that.
-
I cannot believe this is being spun as being Rangers fault. This was Lawwell and Doncaster being torn a new one by the tv companies in order to get them to keep paying them something for their unwanted tv rights to their one horse race. I am glad however that the SPFL have incurred more costs as a result of viewing figures not hitting the promised figures. I can feel a little proud at my contribution to this for refusing to watch a single second of any non-Rangers scottish domestic game in the last two years. Without the Rangers audience, there is no audience. Without the Rangers, there is no game.

I dont normally do petitions and such like, but seeing the uproar this has caused, I have just signed it. Hope there is room in Easdales inbox for the confirmation email!! I also commented that as custodians of our great club, they should respect our property as ours, not theirs.
-
Rab, if you seriously want Rangers to downscale everything to the level of this board's ability to bring in income and manage it properly, then we would be as well giving up everything and playing in the juniors. I have never heard such defeatest trash from a bear in all my life. This board is the problem, added to with some terrible decisions by manager(s), and has been the problem for over a decade. Murray ran us into the ground, and everyone who has had a piece of us since, has trampled in the dirt a bit more and then a bit more again. Just when you think a board cant get any worse than its predecessor, along comes the next one. Wake up FFS, its not coffee you can smell.

That was the league cup, but it was certainly a great day!

Victorious OF finals are always more memorable as you know they can go either way when you go to the game. Finals in which we win trebles are always good too, although the Dundee victory in 2003 was a poor game. Another good one was the Oranje final of 2000 when we thrashed Dolly (leighton's last game IIRC?) and played some great stuff. I have been fortunate to be in attendance at 11 SC finals, with us winning 9 of them. 2 of them at the piggery were in stark contrast as we won the treble there in 1993 against Dolly, and we lost to Hearts in 1998 in what was a really emotional game as we knew it was the end of the road for so many great servants of the 9IAR team and this was the last time we would see many of them in Rangers colours. Is it really 5 years already since we last lifted this famous old trophy?

Scott Gemmill - Is This What We Need At Rangers
Tannochsidebear replied to chilledbear's topic in Rangers Chat
I would have thought that fantastic result for our National youth team merited a back page splash on our two tabloids, instead they run with the latest heartache from Ibrox on one and something about a cup final nobody will watch in the other. Tabloids wonder why people are deserting them in droves, when they miss an easy opportunity to put a good news story in the spotlight. -
A way to go? Murrayfield naming rights £20million...

That is up to our generation to educate them properly then GS!! -
A way to go? Murrayfield naming rights £20million...
Tannochsidebear replied to compo's topic in Rangers Chat
I have always approved of this naming rights nonsense as easy money. Obviously I would want the product to be a respectable world-wide brand, but no Rangers fan is ever going to start calling the stadium anything other than Ibrox Stadium. All it does is get the brand some great advertising as every mention of our home games gets them a mention and some free advertising, be it in the papers or on tv. I still call Livingston Almondvale, Man City the CofM stadium, Falkirk New Brockville etc, so most punters dont really move on with it anyway I would suggest. I do the same with the league and cup sponsors. The English league is the English Premiership, our cup is the Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup etc. I have never used any of the sponsors names when discussing the cup or leagues. So take the money if we can get a good deal. Unfortunately this board have shown with the strips that they dont appear capable of getting a good deal The 32Red or whatever it was deal for our shirts for 14-15 is not a good deal I am told. It is comparable with the Blackthorn deal, which was practically a giveaway as the board of that time couldnt get anybody else to take it and we went back to John Gilligan to get us something so as to not be embarrassed with nothing. I hear it was £750K, which is the same as 32Red. -
I find that really incredibly hard to believe GS, and yet at the same time I know it to be true. Truly sad state of affairs if you ask me.
-
I was going through the thread before I realised it was him. The guy was linking Merlin's old articles about Whyte being the man, and Stockbridge ending the bonus culture at Ibrox etc, and Bill was done by his own keyboard really.

A bluenose from Falkirk was destroying him on RM, his only retort was to point out his grammar wasn't too good. Ah dear, poor Bill.

Hateley HAS been promised the gig with the membership scheme, and this will be his masters bidding to try to push ST sales. In itself nothing wrong with that, and it is better coming from him than from Wallace, Somers, Easdale etc who have just about zero credibility with the silent majority.

July 30th - Bournemouth v Rangers pre season friendly
Tannochsidebear replied to Steve1872's topic in Rangers Chat
As long as Bears booking trips understand that it will probably be a youth/second string team that goes to Dorset given the timing of the fixture and the nature of the opposition. Personally, my self-imposed ban on any friendly matches will be in play again this summer. I have yet to ever attend a good full game of football at one of these, and lets be honest after the quality of play this season, the summer cannot be long enough and I am in no hurry to get back!
