Euro QR4 Draw: Legia Warsaw/Atrimitos v FC Midtjylland/Rangers
Tannochsidebear replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Thanks @Thinker, it must be the 16/17 run I’m thinking about. Even better draw when you take the last 2 seasons Euro results for Legia into account. Must get the job done against the Danes though or all this is pointless. -
Euro QR4 Draw: Legia Warsaw/Atrimitos v FC Midtjylland/Rangers
Tannochsidebear replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
We have really hit the jackpot here. While Legia if I recall have had some decent Euro results in the last few years, compared to who we could have got, both in rounds 3 and 4, we have a great chance to go through to the group stages again, with the financial benefits which are necessary to continue our rebuilding. I'm delighted with this draw!! -
SG couldnt have been that raging with his players, he has given them all today off. He said in after-match interview he would start to focus on the Danes when they all come back to work on Tuesday. I would have hoped that after such an incompetent second half performance that he would have them all in watching the video, highlighting the many areas where we went wrong, and then out on the training ground working on how to break down a parked bus defence. But no, its a day off so all must be fine. I had no problem with him sinking into his seat at the equaliser, I did the same! He isnt one for doing much touchline coaching anyway, you rarely see him pointing and shouting. He prefers to call someone over during a break in play to discuss one to one in a whisper what he wants from them. I dont mind how a manager coaches from the sidelines as long as he has the knowledge and tactical awareness to make tactical changes during the game to improve the chances of victory, and this is one area I think SG can improve on, and I have no doubt he will as the season and his career progresses.

There shouldnt need to be a fragile roof warning, any human being with even a little common sense should know better than to leave their seat and jump on a roof at a football match. There is a growing ned element within our away support, which is going to become a significant problem if not dealt with soon. I'm not blaming the UB members who I was quite close to yesterday and while I personally want that drum shoved somewhere the sun doesnt shine, they did nothing wrong themselves, unless of course it was one of them that let of the disgusting smoke bombs at the goals, I am not sure exactly where that came from. But the Union Bears hangers-oners are simply wee bucky-ed up arseholes intent on trying to be more hardcore than the guy next to them. They are the ones always trying to start songs which will get us into trouble, always the ones looking to cause it with stewards/police, and of course the pitch invasion. There is absolutely no excuse to try to run on the pitch. No good can ever come of it. I have been to thousands of games and never felt the need to run on, I just stand where I am and celebrate with those around me. Of course back in the old days of terracing a goal celebration could see you moved about 20 yards from where you started, but with the seats there I rarely get more than a couple of yards. If they cannot help themselves but run on the pitch when we score, the please please dont come to the games. I hope Rangers can identify everyone who encroached onto the pitch, and those on the disabled shelter roof, and life ban every single one of them. I was absolutely disgusted at the scenes at the goal yesterday, albeit most of which I only seen when I got home and watched the goals and analysis back, as I was too busy jumping up and down like a nutter when we scored to notice too much at the time.

Very difficult one today with no stand out performances. I see Tav & Barasic getting peters on here but I thought both were decent enough, the 2 CBs were involved in both our goals and not at fault for their goal so have both done their job. Davis had a decent first half, Jack same, but both were poor in 2nd half. Aribo & Ojo were the 2 poorest today for me, Arfield made tons of good runs, got a goal but found it hard to really get on the ball in good areas (11 man defence has a lot to do with that) and Morelos was a threat when he wasn’t getting booted, shoved, elbowed etc all over the park. Subs were ineffective but didn’t have much game time. Probably give it to Goldson just for the attitude to get to that ball for the winner despite being fouled.

It’s only incompetence if both sides are recipients of errors. When it is as one-sided as what we see from Callum, it’s cheating. Let’s not fanny about and call it out for what it is.

Despite the roadworks and the predicted stormy weather, really looking forward to the first of 38 instalments in the story of our journey towards “55”. Of course it may end up a damp squib which sees our rivals claim a 51st title instead, but if we can get a win today against a team we couldn’t beat in the league last season, we are already ahead of last season where we played well but poor refereeing cost us 2 points with a disgraceful red card which was rescinded after the points were lost. I expect Goldson & Katic to play with Tav & Barasic as full backs, with McGregor shouting at them from the goalmouth. In midfield and most will expect us to stay with the 4321 shape, however I don’t see Davis being risked on that pitch with Denmark in mind, so it could be Jack, Aribo and Kamara in the deeper line, with Arfield and Ojo trying to link up with Morelos. Other possible starters could be Docherty for Kamara, Jones at his former ground may get the nod ahead of Ojo, and it is possible that Defoe may start ahead of Morelos but I doubt it. Halliday could play at left back if Barasic isn’t to be backed on the awful surface. Kilmarnock have not had a great start under the new manager with Euro humiliation and some uninspiring friendly results and performances, so this game should come at a good time for us and I hope we push on to get a convincing victory.

Euro QR4 Draw: Legia Warsaw/Atrimitos v FC Midtjylland/Rangers
Tannochsidebear replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
Rangers tv said it was exclusively live, so I’m guessing we will have to miss out on Craigin’s pain when we score this week. -
If we get it right we can win the title, but I’m less optimistic now than I was a month ago. To answer your questions, I’m really not sure at all. I don’t see us being able to break down these tight defences often enough with our current players/tactics. Add in the lack of protection from the cheats with whistles, the Bheast FC compliance officer & her colleagues at BBC Scotland, and we don’t just have to be able to match our rivals we have to be 10-15 points better to edge the title. I have put my money where my mouth is though, backing us for the treble at 40/1 and a wee cheeky bet on the bheasts to win nothing this season as well!

The Spring & Summer 2019 Transfer Rumours Thread

Yet to see any proof of intent from them in the market though for all the talk of investment. Perhaps it’s a bit like the Craig white investment. -
Noticed from the goal reports that a fair few were from outside the box. Given St J normally park the bus this is exactly the way to beat these teams. SG take note and forwards/midfielders too.

The Spring & Summer 2019 Transfer Rumours Thread

Is it April 1 again? Hibs in for Middleton? With what, a £10 bag of smack and a stale pie? After what we have went through with Hibs over the last few years there is no way in hell we should be loaning our young talent to them, and they can’t afford to buy. File under another Rhebel fantasy! -
Got mine today. Glad to see it has seat row/number on it this time!

I dont see any Spanish football any more since they moved it away from Sky but Atletico must have a great chance this season with Barca's ageing side on the slide and Real a shambles.
-
He has improved hugely in his time here, especially his defending which was pretty average at best to start with but he has improved as a defender each season and it is clear he is working on his game constantly which is good to see. Easily the best full back in the league, and miles better than the bang average injury-prone wee ned that the bheasts are trying to punt.
-
Thanks to @pete for digging that out. So if the tv, radio and online deal with the BBC ends at the end of this season, we must be strongly putting our influence into the SPFL to not consider BBC when the new contract is being tendered on the basis that they have completely fecked us over for the entirety of the existing deal and not allowed our fans to get the same coverage as all the other clubs.
-
Sorry Gazza, but that is simply not accurate when faced with the facts. Collum is a Rangers hating cheat, as is Clancy and a few others. They referee our games with a different perception of what is and isnt a foul depending on how it affects us. There were far too many incidents last season to simply say it is incompetence which is balanced across other games. If it was incompetence then surely we would have been the beneficiaries of such unbiased incompetence just as often as we were the victims? I reckon biased/cheating refereeing cost us at least 10 points last season.

match thread (image) [FT] Progrès 0 - 0 Rangers
Tannochsidebear replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Like others have said that was a bore and very concerning. I mentioned in the other thread about our formation that as far as I could see this new formation and new players are simply producing the same football as the last lot, which is that we struggle to break teams down that are well organised and have no ambition, which accounts for about 25-30 of our SPFL league games a season, and cost us the title last season. Our refusal to shoot when 20-25 yards out means a packed defence doesnt need to come out and close down the attacker as they know we are only looking for a perfect pass or an opportunity to send it wide for a cross to nobody. This tactic hasnt changed from us at all, and all your fancy diagrams and analysis doesnt change a damn thing when we have players who, when we need it most, cant go past a man to create space, and are fearful of shooting from the edge of the box. Without a quality creative midfielder, we lack the midas touch that unlocks sides like that. If Arfield cant find space to run into, we seem to be very short on ideas. SG has spoken of this many times, and again last night, but I dont want to hear his words anymore, I want him and his very well paid and numerous coaches to sort it out, or we will again be second best to a team with no more talent than ours. -
The less room for football, the better the chances for a kick and rush team like Killie. Surprised Clarke never done it.
-
Where did you hear this @Gazza_8? Been searching for ko time and there is nothing on SPFL site, Rangers site, BT Sport site or on their twitter account. Any help appreciated!

I have high hopes for Murphy if he can get himself fully fit and in form he will be a first pick as he is simply better than the other options. I agree to a certain extent that in the latter part of last season we looked a lot better, however the league was gone by then, and most of our opponents had nothing to play for, so those results need scaled down a bit, and we cant just say omit Killie, as it brought to light all our old failings again! Arfield is a favourite of mine, I love players who drift in unnoticed into the box and score goals, the way he does that reminds me a bit of Ian Durrant (pre-injury). Putting him into that position centrally is ideal for him and that has been the biggest positive from the formation change for me.

Spot on, it was plastered all across every paper as far as I could see. We really must educate our new players in how the gutter press operates up here, and remind them that we say nothing until we have achieved something. It only gives your opponents increased motivation and adds nothing to our cause, so STFU!!
