  1. I just happened to bookmark this at the time ... http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/scotland/18440161 14 June 2012 Last updated at 18:13 GMT 1457: BREAKING NEWS Former Rangers manager Walter Smith has confirmed in a statement that he is leading a new bid to buy the club. 1500: Walter Smith statement "I can today confirm that following talks over the last few weeks I am leading a new bid for Rangers Football Club. "I have been assisted by Jim McColl, Douglas Park and other prominent Scottish businessmen with a shared objective - that Rangers Football Club should be in the hands of Rangers people who will stabilise the club and protect it from future situations like we find ourselves in today. ..."
  2. Good statement. Sense of stability returns. We need to be patient for a little while.
  3. I don't see much chance of a change in personnel very soon if you go by this article ... http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/8750-managerial-appointment-crucial Friday, 06 March 2015 18:00 Managerial Appointment Crucial Written by Rangers Football Club Managerial Appointment Crucial THE appointment of Rangers’ next permanent manager will be a crucial decision in the eyes of the men now holding power at Ibrox. Dave King and Paul Murray both admit that it will be fundamental to their rebuilding of the club to employ the right man. Interim Chairman Murray said: “I think you have to remember that there have only been 13 men in the history of the club that have held the position, so it’s a really important position. “We see this as being us laying the foundation of a long term project here so getting the first team manager appointed is a critical, fundamental decision. “We’re not going to rush in to that. Now that this is over today I’m sure people will approach us and people have been, but until today we didn’t have any mandate to speak to anyone. “We will continue that process and we obviously have a couple of people who are on the management front at the moment who have expressed their views in terms of the future. “We’ll have to sit down with Ally and Kenny and have that conversation but the choice of the new manager is one we want to take some time on and get right.” King believes the timescale of such a move is less important than the act of ensuring that the resulting appointment is the right one. He said: “I think this season it’s late, other than through enthusiasm and energy, to give a completely different direction to the season. “We are where we are so I think the best that we can hope is that this kind of tidal change today and the support of the fans can galvanize us through the season. “My personal thought is that at this stage in the club’s history we need less of a manager and much more of a coach. “We’re not going to go and buy a new team and tell someone to come and manage them, we need someone of a different set of skills to come in and build and develop and bring youngsters through so it’s an important position and we have to be very careful. “It’s a long road ahead and I think it takes a different type of manager. We’re not going to bring in a Dick Advocaat and say ‘we have a winning team you just have to manage it’ it’s a very different thing and we have to be smart about the individual we get in.”
  4. Why do I never see a Scottish saltire or a Union Jack at that ground? Does Liewell take us for fools?
  5. No bullshit, straight answers and no big Yorkshire hands waving. Feel better already. Now comes the test of time.
  6. From the front, or the back door?

    NOMAD Resigns

Rangers International Football Club PLC ("Rangers" or the "Company") Suspension of trading on AIM The Company has been informed that its Nominated Adviser ("NOMAD") does not believe that it can satisfy the London Stock Exchange in relation to its NOMAD obligations in respect of the appropriateness of the Company's securities to be admitted to AIM, and therefore the NOMAD has resigned as Nominated Adviser to Rangers with immediate effect. Accordingly Rule 1 of the AIM rules for Companies will apply, and trading in the Company's AIM securities will be suspended with immediate effect. If the Company is not able to restore trading within one month, admission of the Company's securities to AIM will be cancelled. If requested during the suspension period WH Ireland is willing to assist the Company to implement the necessary changes for WH Ireland or another Nomad to become satisfied as to the Company's appropriateness for AIM. If a Nominated adviser is appointed it may apply to the London Stock Exchange on behalf of the Company for trading to be restored. The Directors are disappointed that this event has had to take place despite the considerable efforts they have made over the last few weeks and months against the backdrop of the general meeting requisition and wish also to record their appreciation to their outgoing NOMAD for all it has done for the Club. 8. Can the shareholders cause an injunction to be issued to prevent this move?
  9. I wish he was playing this Friday. Gave it 100%, good player.
  10. Think of John Greig in a Spurs uniform, and you understand how Dave MacKay tackled. Big influence on the park. R.I.P. Dave.
  11. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-call-fans-shop-flaming-5244400 Celtic call on fans to shop flaming idiots who triggered latest UEFA charge for lighting flares in Milan 16:39, 27 February 2015 By Record Sport Online THE Scottish champions have asked for supporters to give them the names of those responsible for the club's SEVENTH Euro charge in just THREE years. Maybe this club would garner more understanding from neutrals if they had issued a similar headline in asking for the assaulters of young Kieran Murphy to be identified. Self-serving scum.
  12. Whether it was a prepared statement from a committee or not, I would assume he means the actual author.
  13. More than likely because King wants to keep those proxy votes happy. ( possibly alternating fan group reps every year )
  14. "Unlike most, I believe bigoted songs can be stopped overnight – but it has to be hammered by the club and made taboo by the main supporters' groups so the majority have a collective way of showing their disgust." The club's response ... http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/8575-club-statement Wednesday, 25 February 2015 17:00 Club Statement Written by Rangers Football Club Club Statement THE Club has this afternoon released the following statement: The Club has made its position on anti-social behaviour abundantly clear. As is normal, Rangers security staff attend every pre-match operations meeting to discuss all aspects of safety and unacceptable behaviour. It will come as no great surprise that the Police match commander has indicated that a ‘zero tolerance’ approach will be in place regarding criminal behaviour and has indicated that additional resources both physical and technical will be deployed before, during and after Friday night’s match at the Falkirk Stadium. The Club is committed to eradicating all forms of inappropriate behaviour and will support Police Scotland and Falkirk Football Club in tackling this problem. The Rangers supporters have been magnificent at Ibrox and on our travels this season and it was extremely disappointing that a minority of supporters chose to engage in inappropriate singing during last weekend’s match at Raith Rovers. That said, the Club takes great encouragement from the fact that the majority of supporters were quick to condemn those who indulged in criminal behaviour and the club ask all supporters to act as ambassadors for Rangers when they attend our matches. Those who engage in unacceptable behaviour are only damaging Rangers so it is important to back the team in the correct manner and prevent the Club from attracting negative comments.
  15. I have lived in three of the five countries you have highlighted, as well as Scotland. All of them have separate RC schooling. Some of them have had a huge percentage of RCs within some of the communities. The only country I have lived in where I felt there was a sectarian problem is Scotland. I was born and bred on the west coast of Scotland, but I understand there is also a large concentration in Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen. A large concentration of what ? Irish RCs. Now I don't say that is the definitive answer as to why Scotland is blighted with sectarianism, but it is an observation. Another observation I have made is that I have never seen such a concentration of biased media anywhere, as that which is on display in Scotland. Go figure. The other point you made which I'd like to comment on is - "The people who chose to sing 'No pope of Rome' on Friday night don't get to blame RC schools for that." I don't think the people who sing NPOR or TBB are attempting to blame the RC schools for anything. I think they are singing these songs because they enjoy singing them, which is the same reason their counterparts in the east end of the city sing their prohibited sectarian IRA songs. Now I'm talking solely about the songs and chants here and I wonder if either set of supporters are truly outraged with one another, or is this a faux crisis manufactured by the media. I say that because on Friday I could hear very clearly all of the songs that the Rangers' support were singing on the BT feed. I suspect because the trackside microphones were set very high - a lot higher than usual. I mention that because tonight I watched the Man. City vs Barcelona game and I could hear the crowd in the background making chants but I could not make out clearly what they were saying. This is the normal audio level for most football matches. Again, go figure.
  16. Here's another point of view from the VB site ... The Chattering Classes Written by: kw14ultra Tuesday, 24th February 2015 A few years back I watched an episode of the BBC TV series "Who do you think you are?" The program takes a celebrity on a journey through his or her past tracing their family history, indicating the events that led to and supported their existence. In this particular episode, David Tennant, the Scottish actor who was playing Doctor Who at the time, was taken to his grandparent’s home in Northern Ireland. David’s grandfather was an Orangeman, and as part of the program he was presented by his grandfather’s sash by his second cousin. By the look on his face it was clear to see his displeasure, and later Tennant is quoted as saying: “When Harry handed me my grandfather's orange sash, I felt that I had been handed a turd. To me, the Orange Order represents everything that is obnoxious in society. I have always associated Orangemen with right wing racism and sectarianism". Also by his own admission Tennant is a hand wringing, Guardian reading liberal. Tennant is not alone, his likes can be found scattered across the chattering classes in Scotland. They are aloof to their history; they take for granted the sacrifices made by others but reap the benefits of their forebears who fought for civil and religious liberty. Their rights and freedoms have been handed to them on a plate now they pour scorn on those whose integrity; ethics, determination and steadfastness placed them in such a privileged position. It has long been the want of a Presbyterian to question, but those born of the presbytery now don’t bother with questioning, they actually pontificate, they tell people they are wrong, well because…. they’re right. They are aloof to their arrogance. Football is all about rivalries. It is a working class game and reflects the social and economic conditions of its surroundings. History, tradition, rivalry and comradeship are the things, which bind the sport together. It is the people’s game and was borne of the people. There are songs sung which are meant to ridicule, rile, embarrass and hurt the opposition; it is the nature of the crowd. Some people understand this, others don’t. It appears that there are some fuelled by social media and their own egos that seek to tell Rangers supporters what they can and cannot sing, what they deem acceptable. One even suggested that supporters could be in trouble for what they think! Now I firmly believe these people are entitled to their opinion, in fact their right to their opinion is enshrined in the very rights and liberties that others provided them, those others they now treat like the turd Tennant thought he had been handed. A recent blogger has suggested that there is no place in today’s society for singing No Pope of Rome, his reasoning, Catholics have played for Rangers and they may be upset. Really? All the misery, abuse and crimes committed by the Roman Catholic Church on its own members, and people are going to be upset by a song, a song sung at a football match, a song sung, as the majority of songs sung at football matches are, to upset, ridicule and goad the opposition. With all the turmoil surrounding Rangers in recent years, we have bloggers who choose to target the very people who are the lifeblood of the club and appease those who would happily see it dead. I truly despair. The handbags and the glad rags that your poor old Granddad had to sweat to buy you.
  17. I think I remember seeing him miss the penalty, but I have never seen this picture before. Beauty!! What an immediate GIRFUY.
  18. signed .....
  19. According to Greg at the Louden Tavern, Rangers First executive did not sanction anyone to make this statement in their name. They have two Facebook pages and they think that an individual who still has access to the old page did this on his own. Their mandate is such that they are apolitical.
  20. Looking great Gazza, keep them good days coming.
  21. Let this lot of directors go, Rab. They don't represent us anyway.
  22. Why? T3B would differ from you with this part of their statement - “It is our view that he has brought the club into disrepute as a consequence of his damaging and unprofessional behaviour and as such should become subject to his employer’s disciplinary processes and ultimately be dismissed for gross misconduct.”
  23. Agreed, but who reads that rhag anyway?
  24. With no Smith, Foster or Black in the lineup it may be worthwhile waiting until the end of the season before making a final judgement.
  25. This may be one of those contracts that King says requires 'forensic accounting', and action taken thereon.
