After Weiss debut today I bet we're all feeling a bit happie than we were just before Beattie's arrival and then Weiss and Jelavic.

Aye right Jim.

Following on from that thread about how our press like to promote Celtic often at our expense if this was Celtic signing a player i t would be "Celtic sensationally beat Rangers to sign Premier League star". Somehow they've managed to make it a dig at us.

Through Stewarty's wiki link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6302665.stm A while back? Try 3 and a half years ago.

Why are the press so intent on bigging up Celtic?
Super_Ally replied to Totti's topic in Rangers Chat
Bugged me all summer transfer window and longer. Must have hated reporting how Weiss knocked them back for us. -
I should have written something like not collapsed then rather than not suffered.

Ah, had no idea about Arteta's birth place. Doesn't seem quite so random now. Though the girl I know went to school with Xabi Alonso and knows a fair bit about Spanish footballers (for a girl :fish:) and did not have a clue about Arteta.

So for all that guff at the start of the transfer window about Celtic's revolution (shades of the last two years of failure) a comparison of the squads turnover would be interesting.
-
Another duff signing for them?

Was an article on the BBC a while back about ex-Villa player Ulysses (sp) de La Cruz, will have a look for it later on but from what I remember he was pretty much rebuilding his families home town with his wages. Schools etc.

I dont see what Miller provides that makes him so irreplaceable? Would prefer he stayed ahead of Lafferty for example, but we've lost far more important, far higher quality players and not suffered. I'm not saying I want him to go. There are many in the queue ahead of him if, big if, someone has to go. But I wont be keeking my breeks if he does.

Some of you may remember my boring Novo story from Seville. Well just been to San Sebastien in Spain and in a bar in the old part of town (for anyone that knows it) called Bar Nestor just as I left I noticed a framed Mikel Arteta shirt on the wall. Ok it was an Everton shirt. Tenuous link but still I enjoyed it. If anyone can upload the photo I will text it to you (cant do it with my piece of crap phone). Also saw a scarf in another bar; Bar Eibarterrara (I think) that was a Scotland scarf with Scotland the brave in English and Spanish written on it. Saw various other Saltires (on a wee boat that took us out to a wee Island in the bay and around about the town). Does anyone know if there is some link with the Basque (sp?) part of Spain and Scotland? Not sure the thread title is very apt now, but there you go. Oh and where is Mikel Arteta from? Is he from the Basque country?

So, the Jig is in for a wee while longer..

I found myself agreeing with a lot of your post. But not that bit. Novo's contribution was only patchy when his manager's use of him was patchy. Novo is one of the best value for money signings we've had in years. -

Think we're pretty much on the same page then. (don't like the shoehorn argument but in the overall argument it isn't important ). -

WHilst I too am frustrated at offering him a new contract and not Thommo and also a little frustrated by it all I woudl argue that he wont revert to type as being average is his type. I dont think he's anywhere near as bad as people have made out. Even the Manchester season. Had a Lafferty or other player scored that goal in Lyon they be living off that for years. Lee wasn't even cut some slack til the end of that year. He is an average but dependable player. As a defensive mid he'll do the dirty work. Unappreciated. Nothing great but not terrible either. -

I'm not with the people who are taking this very badly but I am perplexed as I thought the reason Thommo left was we could not offer him and extension. Is Thommo on that much more money? And surley the younger player represents a better financial option in respect of sell on value etc. -
Andy Webster is made of chocolate.

I'd have been pretty happy to see that 2,3 or 4 years ago.

Bellamy on Terry "everyone in football knows what he's like" (or what sort of man he is, words to that effect anyway). Pot, kettle, black.
-
I was just using an analogy of a player whose main contribution will be goals with not a lot else. If i'm wrong then fine. I'm just not totally convinced by this and even in spite of FH's stats still believe he is past his best.
-
Didn't know that so thanks for the research. Makes me a little more confident about the signing. However I could see him being like a worse version of Boyd in that all he'll do is score goals (however a few less) whilst being more of a target man who can use his strength and aerial power.

While I agree with the assessment of their relative abilities as footballers I really don't like seeing Rangers fans calling players things like twats. Lafferty has made many poor decisions and it has been put down to immaturity. Here's hoping he's put that behind him and whilst I would rather keep Naisy, Smtih rates Lafferty so I hope he comes good as he'll certainly be staying.

Maybe that's whay England were a raging embarassment at the World Cup? Bit of an own goal with that argument!
