johnny/wija: Both of you stop the tedious sniping please... You're both well above that. Agree to disagree on this one and stop spoiling various threads for others. If not, I'll let Gribz off the leash.

http://www.rangerssupporterstrust.co.uk/rs...98&Itemid=2 This year is the centenary of the birth of Sam English who remains with 44 league goals in a season a club record holder despite achieving this over 70 years ago. Samââ?¬â?¢s Rangers career was prematurely cut short when he had to move to England following the John Thomson tragedy and the hate campaign he and his family suffered from ghouls who blamed him for the young Celtic keeperââ?¬â?¢s death. Itââ?¬â?¢s the intention of the Sam English Commemoration Committee to mark Samââ?¬â?¢s life and achievements with a variety of events and the creation and presentation of a cup in his memory. Samââ?¬â?¢s own story has been somewhat overshadowed by the Thomson tragedy - but his life did not stop then - his marriage was blessed with three daughters and numerous grand-children; he played with distinction for a number of other clubs - Liverpool, Hartlepool,Queen of the South; and he returned to Clydebank to coach his local team Duntocher Hibs. We hope to be able to tell the whole Sam English story in the coming months. The central focus of the commemoration will be on a dinner at Ibrox on Saturday August 16th where a specially commissioned cup will be unveiled. We have engaged the services of a Northern Irish silversmith - Cara Murphy - to produce the cup. - You can view Caraââ?¬â?¢s work on her website by clicking here. The cup will not simply be a trophy but also a work of art befitting the stature of this remarkable Ranger. To produce the cup in silver will require a reasonable expenditure of funds - around Ã?£8,000 - and hence we are asking fans to support the Commemoration by participating in events and making a donation. DONATE AND PARTICIPATE! - DONATE - all donations over Ã?£25 will receive a special certificate of thanks. This can be done securely via the Trust website facility ââ?¬â?? click here. Please ensure you mark your donation with 'Sam English Fund'. - BADGES - Ã?£3 UK, Ã?£4 overseas. Design is being finalised and will be available in 4-6 weeks. Buy via PayPal by clicking here. - RACE NIGHT - Friday 9th May - venue tbc - entry Ã?£3. Buy tickets via PayPal by clicking here. - 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT - Ã?£50 per team - Sat 17th May @ Five on 5 (Paisley). Contact the Trust directly for more information on entering a team. - DINNER AT IBROX - Ã?£50 per seat. Ã?£500 per table. Buy tickets securely via PayPal by clicking here. We shall also shortly announce the details of a golf day and dinner in Samââ?¬â?¢s native Northern Ireland. All our plans have been fully discussed with Samââ?¬â?¢s surviving daughter. The committee will also produce a commemorative menu - brochure and are very keen to make contact with fans who have information on Samââ?¬â?¢s early life and memorabilia/photographs.

Ferguson did nothing. Both red cards were incredibly harsh given McGeady and Hesselink had both raised their hands earlier in the actual game - to no punishment.

He's a Celtic fan who runs his site. He's welcome to post as long as he remains polite and balanced. I know Gersnet users will afford him the same respect.

Nothing was thrown at Barry Robson - especially not the potatoes claimed on daft Celtic forums. Rangers fans were throwing TIFO tape throughout thje game and one roll of this didn't unwind as it landed near Robson. That's a bit different from coins, mobile phones and buses being bricked, Scotzine and that's why we've NOT been reported and will NOT be fined. Celtic will (or should be).

WORRIED Rangers fans have demanded a big-game summit with Celtic chief Peter Lawwell after stating missile-throwing Hoops thugs have made Parkhead unsafe for players and supporters. http://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/41663/ http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/2008/04/18/rangers-trust-want-last-old-firm-game-behind-closed-doors-after-coin-throwing-86908-20386669/

Ideally, he shouldn't have done it. Unfortunately, it's not easy to factor in all the hindsight arguments when a shot is coming right for you. Natural instinct to keep it out of the net IMO.

Well said Fraser. A poor result but we're still in the driving seat. WATP

Poor result then but not entirely unexpected. We started reasonably well but then retreated far too deep and invited Celtic onto us. Strachan was actually quite clever but ensuring his midfielders sat quite deep as well. As such, because our defence were camped on their 18 yard line for most of the first half, there was a lot of space for the likes of Robson et al to operate. Nonetheless despite their pressure there were few chances and it again took a couple of moments of brilliance for the first two goals. After half-time we looked the better team and I was just getting comfy when Papac/McCulloch allowed Nakamura to get another shot away. Cuellar reacted as most players would and I doubt we could have asked for a worst thing than a red card for him. Great save though from the ever-impressive McGregor (hope it's not ligament damage) but after that we were always going to invite more pressure. Again though Celtic didn't really cause any problems until they scored. Again, Caldwell was allowed to chip the ball in and it was quite a well worked goal actually. Generally I have no complaints about the result. We took too long to get going and allowing wide players to cross the ball (or shoot) has been costly for us lately. Important thing is that we're still in front, although the loss of Cuellar, Thomson and possibly McGregor for a week on Sunday could prove extremely debilitating, in what will likely be a similar rematch. They should take a fair bit of confidence from the result last night so I doubt they'll drop any more points this season. As such, I now feel we're going to have to lift our own game and ensure we win every match to bring the title back to Ibrox. Hopefully we can raise our own confidence levels with a good win against St Johnstone and a solid result in the UEFA Cup. It's going to be an extremely nervy time ahead. This is where Walter's experience will prove vital!

DAVIE WEIR and Celtic's Gary Caldwell are facing potential suspensions
Frankie replied to delbear's topic in Rangers Chat
Aye, Thomson and Cuellar miss next Old Firm game. Weir misses the game against St Johnstone only. -

I agree that ideally we need to keep the main core of players - including McGregor and Cuellar. Losing them and starting again - no matter the money brought in - would hamper continuity and even if we bought a new centre-half for £5million, he might not settle as CC has done. The summer will be a good test of the club administration in this regard.
-
I'd like to think we'd be a bit cuter than Celtic have been. It's all well and good complaining publicly but showing results in the form of apologies/action is much more agreeable. Never going to happen at Rangers as it stands unfortunately...
-
Agreed. For around £3million, he's well worth it. Prefer to see him playing centrally and if so, I see him as the long term replacement for Ferguson in that role. Thanks, Trev!

Won't affect our deal which is set in stone... If anything it should mean a better quality of service in the shops that continue to exist.

http://www.rangerssupporterstrust.co.uk/rstsite/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=197&Itemid=1 The facts speak for themselves: Rangers are in a European semi-final with a domestic clean-sweep distinctly possible. The performance in Lisbon was exceptional, with ball retention and composed football of the highest quality. Getting an away goal at a critical time showed genuine character and if Steven Whittaker was Brazilian weââ?¬â?¢d still be raving about his slalom run through the Sporting defence. Having beaten 3 excellent sides to progress, Rangers now face Fiorentina as equals. In the Scottish Cup, the business was taken care of with 2 first half strikes. Credit to Thistle but not their supporters, who need to learn that sectarian abuse of both the Pope and the Queen is unacceptable. Anything other than defeat at Celtic Park should see Rangers as Champions, but with Celtic failing to score or secure a point in the last 4 OF fixtures, a major ââ?¬Ë?Timplosionââ?¬â?¢ is possible. Letââ?¬â?¢s hope the home crowdââ?¬â?¢s May 1999 behaviour isnââ?¬â?¢t repeated. Stephen Smith http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/SPL-fanzone.3984993.jp Seems, as usual, it's fair game to call Rangers fans bigots but if we have the temerity to question other supporters' regarding their own sectarian chants, we're, erm, still bigots. Great column, Stevie!
