During the course of my family research at the Mitchell Library I came across this wonderful photograph from the front page of the Sunday Post from February 1949. It’s my Mum Emma( winking at the photographer ?) and her two cousins Emma and Sadie at a Scottish Cup Tie at Motherwell. The three of them have hand knitted Rangers scarves, my mum’s showing the names of Brown, Young and Shaw. Sadly none of them are with us today but they will be cheering us on. Rangers won the match 3-0 with goals from George Young, Willie Paton and Willie Thornton. Let’s hope for a similar result today.

Today was a hard one to take for the Gang Hut, a 1-5 victory for Rangers at Fir Park has to wear a PQ perspective. Look, Roy Hogson summed it up last night, the hand ball must be deliberate”. Before the game at Fir Park, Tom was predicting, “a tricky afternoon for Rangers”. Now, Big Dick is the Gang Hut statto, he has the Bumper Big Book of all penalties awarded and conceded. Big Dick is posted missing today and fellow Dandy, Liam McLeod commentating was not forth coming. Thus, listen in Gang Hutters, Rangers last penalty awarded on league business was during October of last year. It’s eleven months and 27 matches since our last spot kick in the Premiership. Every other club in the Premiership has been awarded a penalty during that period, the vast majority several. The law of averages does not pertain to Rangers at PQ, Tom made an ill considered decision, knowing there was a waiting grateful audience. Andrew’s bitterness could not be contained, he took it further, “Madden has been the most dangerous player on the field for Motherwell to cope with, and good in defence also”. This is Wilson’s second stint as a Director of the claret and amber, he gave up before to become an MSP for the SNP. He was responsible for the Scottish Government’s economic case for independence, 635 pages predicated upon a barrel of oil being $115. Apparently, Wilson has an Economics degree? I am sure the Compliance Officer will use it for necessary mitigation. Maybe, it’s where Gerrard has gone wrong, being cited for defending his own player with a puncture wound after referee, Kevin Clancy did not even award a free kick. Tonight’s Sportscene will have Sellik TV’s Michael Stewart ignoring Andrew Wilson completely, whilst demanding referees’ leniency towards Rangers players end immediately, or Peter will wield the big stick.

Now they're 2-0 down. Really thought they could do to them what they did to us. Can't depend on anyone to do us favours. We are going to have to take points off them ourselves.

Delighted for big Itten, seems like a popular lad with everyone congratulating him on his first. My boy Bassey did well. He's no Borna but he's a unit and a half. Can see his rawness in the posistionally he was caught narrow a couple of times but that's inexperience. Tav was brilliant, showed a real hunger today. Arfield showed his intelligence and shout out for Alfie, since he's got his head right his attitude has been spot on.

Good stuff, doubt we could have asked for better than that. Very comfortable half-time where we managed the game (and our fitness) by keeping the ball and moving about comfortably before taking two fine goals to add some gloss to the score-line. Just a pity we conceded but that down to bad luck more than anything else. Onto Ibrox at last!

I like that we're annoyed at conceding. I'm annoyed. Not much anyone can do there, though.

Fantastic performance and boost for Thursday night , that we can rest players and still get a performance such as that is very very pleasing , this could be , just possibly a massively decisive week in our season .

Showed at end in the way he brought ball down but did not manage a correct connection with shot.

Gone for Tav as well. His best game for us in a while and two brilliant penalties. However, could easily picked Davis or Arfield who were both superb. Bassey can be pleased with his debut, Jones played will and took his goal brilliantly. Alfies work rate and unselfishness back to what we expect. Itten getting two goals should also do him the world of good.

Was just about to post the same. Seeing the replays at half-time, certainly looks a pen.

I thought it was a pen for Motherwell when Kamara nudged the player in the back, silly challenge, but we got away with it. Very good 1st half. Chance to give some players a wee run out, think I would take Kent of, protect him for Thursday

Bassey looks raw, but if we can focus that athleticism and pace, there's a player there. We've used Jones' pace today, which is good to see. He's not the most technical, but his pace is useful. Arfield has been good offensively, but bit slow to cover, for me. Kamara and Davis have been solid. Morelos' link-up play has been very good. Tavernier is relishing playing in his favourite position: anywhere, everywhere. The flat 4-3-3 suits the players and the opposition, today. I'm pleased we've been able to switch it up slightly to great affect.

Can't argue with that, so far. By far the better team and good to be 0-3 in front but I actually thought after taking the lead we were a bit too static and one-paced, possibly even nervous after what happened last weekend. The second goal freed us up thankfully and, since then, both Davis and Arfield have really looked sharp. With regard to the pens, the first one is a stonewaller (if harsh rules) but I'd like to see the second again. Madden will be accused of all sorts but not many people will point to the fact he almost allowed 'Well to pull once back by permitting two blatant late fouls on Helander and Bassey to go unpunished and Lamie to still be on the park despite the fact he should have been booked three times.

I really don't know what everyone is getting worked up about. After all "Rangers will fully support its Manager against this charge during the scheduled hearing" so the SFA will be quaking in its shoes.
