  1. Griffiths is the personification of all things yahoo, isn't he. Criminal record - check. Sexual deviancy - check. Looks dodgy - check. Plays the victim - check.

  3. Never said he was un-droppable, no player is. There is no reason to suggest Patterson who'd be any better defensively or offensively than Tav so replacing one with another is a gamble. Are you suggesting Patterson wouldn't have any bad games? Is that based on any evidence. Tav is our longest serving Captain since Richard Gough. He has consistently delivered for Rangers, never hidden, very rarely been injured and his stats are on a other planet. Just our luck that the (potentially) best product out of our academy since Barry Ferguson plays the same position as our club captain and most potent player in our team. Also, can never get my head round those who don't see Tavs importance to the team.

  4. I think the new manager GVB has made a very good start indeed. But as I see it he’s still very much assessing the squad he’s inherited. Some, such as Arfield, he clearly feels should be more involved than his predecessor thought. And others may be less involved as he maybe looks to replace them. An immediate concern for him however will be the CB’s where SG left us hopelessly short iMO. Balougen and Helander are currently injured leaving only Goldson as the only fit recognised first team CB. This will need sorted out next month. Both Goldson & Balougen’s contracts expire at the end of this season. Will he try to offload them in January? And does he have replacements identified ? We don’t know In fact a lot of things are now up in the air. My own view is we lost a manager & replaced him with a better manager.

  5. Where have I stuck my head in the sand? I want the 1st team squad to be the best we can afford without putting us in financial trouble. You contradict yourself - the only way to get annual CL money is to be better than Celtic. If we aren't, we won't win the league so don't understand your arguement. Admitting we are miles away from being CL material isn't sticking head in sand, it's being realistic. Understanding the restraints we are working under whilst trying to be the best we can be isn't sticking my head in the sand, it's being realistic. We have progressed every year since SG was appointed and have gotten European football on a yearly basis. We won the league last year gaining record points for us and blowing so many other records out the water. We were never going to repeat that, that's not sticking my head in the sand, it's being realistic. I said when Gio was being touted as the new manager that this may turn out to be an upgrade. How's that sticking my head in the sand? As a fan its easy to criticise in fact in this age of social media it's almost a prerequisite. We want everything and we want it now. To win every game, to win it 4 or 5 nil, to win every cup including the CL. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. That's not sticking my head in the sand, it's being realistic. As my old Granddad used to say, you can only pee with the Willy you've got (well that's the cleaned up version).

  6. As always with playing staff, there will be a regular turnover. There's no way there'll be wholesale changes in January or next Summer. We'll sell some, keep some and bring new players in. We've looked good under GvB. Calm heads and patience are required, albeit the last one is always in short supply amongst our support. We've won four in a row, are top of the league and have qualified for EL knock out rounds again.

  7. He didn't have an assist or a goal yesterday either so maybe you are on to something. Time he was dropped and stripped of the captaincy.

  8. We'd have given a lot to have this team a few years ago .... McLaughlin Patterson - Goldson - Simpson - Bassey Lundstram - Jack - Bacuna Wright - Roofe - Defoe

  9. We should play all our decent fringe players on thursday and rest as many as possible for Hearts. Lundstrum, Sakala, Roofe, Wright and Patterson should all start at very least.

  14. Dropping Kent and Davis was fairly bold management, and it worked so credit for that. Also thought it was interesting he left Morelos on after he was booked and the game was won. I can't decide if GVB simply doesn't know his past and how he's refereed differently to others or if he simply has more faith in his professionalism than I do. That was a Dundee side in good form going into the match made to look very poor. I can't claim to be a master tactician but even I can spot the difference in what's expected from our full backs since GVB took control. So much of our attacking play under Gerrard came from our full-backs, they were often our furthest forward players. I felt other clubs were starting to nullify that threat more, they'd figured out how to play us. The last couple of matches has seen a subtle change there, with Tav and Barasic still venturing forward but not all the time and as an addition to the attack, not its mainstay. So far it's worked, I think both Livi and Dundee would have caused us more problems had Gerrard still been in charge, we were huffing and puffing against those types of sides earlier in the season. Interestingly I think Barasic has benefited from this change, but Tav seems more subdued. Everyone played well but I thought Arfield was man of the match. I felt he worked exceptionally hard and his running and attacking created space for others to exploit. That said another 3 or 4 were also excellent so I've no complaints with Aribo winning the official award. A 1-0 win for Dundee Utd today would see us go level on goal difference with the team in second place, it seems only a few weeks ago they were miles ahead on that measurement. Overall you have to give enormous credit to the board and Ross Wilson as well as to Gio and his staff and indeed the players, for the almost seamless transition of management team. I'm not sure all of us fully appreciate how seismic our entire first team management team walking out on mass must have been.

  20. You want players dropped and / or sold just for the hell of it then? Or is it simply that you don't like / rate them..... To be serious in CL we'd need to spend millions we don't have SG never looked at the academy - really? Bassey promoted from the academy and now in 1st team squad. Patterson promoted from the academy and now in first team squad. Who gave King, Mayo and Kelly their debuts for Rangers and had them around 1st team and played them pre-season? Who played McCorrie in goal at 1st Old Firm of the season and in EL? Have you seen much of Kelly, Mayo and King, or any of our B / youth players? Do you know how they perform in training on a daily basis? I've watched Kelly, Mayo and King in B Team and whilst they look promising, they look no more promising than say Wilson, Bates and Ross McCorrie. Wilson attracted serious attention after establishing himself in our 1st team and got a fantastic move to Liverpool. Wonder what he's up to these days? The other two are currently "starring" for Aberdeen which is probably a level above where they ought to be.

  25. Agree in the main however I think it was SG (is it OK to mention has name yet? 😀) who said there are different types of players when it comes to resting / playing, and I'm sure it was when he was discussing Goldson playing "ever minute". Some players require "rest" to ensure they remain in top condition and in top form, others require to play ever minute available. It's easy for us fans to say " rest Tav or who ever for easy games" but we don't know the players and what is best for them physically and form wise. We arent privy to how they perform in training etc and this is why clubs now employ dedicated sport scientists, analysts and the like. Patterson is a huge talent and I feel for him as he should be playing at a high level. However if he is patient and continues to learn and develop at Rangers (watching and listening to players like Tav), he'll have a long and successful career at Rangers.

  27. So even when having a "stinker", Tav still contributes offensively and therefore helps get wins or draws? Not a bad trait to have. I'd have a player like that in my team every day of the week..... oh, wait......

  28. Gio`s been here for a matter of weeks. He´s won all games thus far too. No-one shall (and I doubt no-one is) getting carried away though. He will use the trusted players for the time being. I just hope that he gives other players a chance to prove themselves in competirtive action and in a system that Gio deems necessary for the game at hand. No-one is demanding Tav shall be dropped per se, but likewise it would be good to revolve people when they are not "as essential" as they are usually are, e.g. yesterday`s game at home against Dundee. I for one never missed Tav when SG was forced to play him as Tav was injured. I cannot say that I missed Kent yesterday either. As long as a manager utilizes his whole squad, no problem. NB: Again ... Tav`s stats are fine. For a winger. They hardly include his defensive abilities though.

  29. Most ludicrous thing I've read on a forum in years (and that's saying something). Have you even watched us over the last 2 or 3 season? Or listened to players and managers (including Patterson) saying how Tav is a huge influence and a leader.

  30. GvB has used Patterson more than SG ever did, simply because the formation allows it. Patterson has come on twice in more advanced positions to 'shut up shop'. However, he's not dropped Tavernier to do so, which suggests GvB recognises Tavernier's importance. I wouldn't be dropping Tavernier any time soon, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Patterson get the nod in some games to give Tavernier a rest -- yesterday's game was probably a good opportunity.

  35. The form of so many have improved. Mcgregor, goldson, barasic, Morelos are just some Arfield should be playing a lot for us he is such a good all round player.

  36. Don't let me take the shine of our win but an own goal an in off and one goal scored far to many chances scorned and if you shoot it always helps to get the ball on target. Mon the gers

  37. Another perfectly satisfactory win. The last Rangers manager to win his first four matches was Willie Waddell. I'm starting to think Aston Villa have done us a favour.

  39. He was indeed much improved, particularly in a defensive capacity, which has often been his main failing. Also in defence, while Bassey has rightly received considerable praise recently, we could really be doing with Filip Helander back in harness. Alfredo Morelos is a mere shadow of the player who used to terrorise defences. He needs a break to recover and reset.

  41. A couple of weeks past saw the passing of a true Hilton Glasgow legend and a good pal to a few of us on this site. The diminutive Jimmy Miller was in all honesty a giant of a man. None who knew him ever saw him without a smile. The warmth of his genuine hospitality radiated from thousands of breakfast services over many, many years at one of Glasgow's biggest hotels. For myself, @ian1964, @johnnyk, @Pete1984 and a few more of our Tranent pals, we met Jimmy ten years or so ago through pre-match drinks at the Neptune and quickly became good friends with him and his auld chum Ian. Right through dreadful times for our club, Jimmy kept all our spirits up with tales of his work at the hotel and which celebrity he'd 'looked after' that week. Rarely did you leave for Ibrox every other Saturday without sore ribs from laughing at the wee fella's tall tales! Many other Rangers fans will also know Jimmy from the Neptune and his friendships with famous players past and present, including Sir Alex Ferguson who, in recent years, often invited Jimmy down to Old Trafford to reciprocate his hospitality. Jimmy will be laid to rest at 12noon on Saturday 20th November at Daldowie Crematorium followed by a a meet up of friends and family at the Hilton Glasgow. All welcome! We will miss him but hold only fond memories. Smile when you think of him. All our thoughts at Gersnet are with his wife and family.
