  1. Bassey is a good example. Taverneir is still not a good example, even if he does make a profit. Good business, absolutely, but we need to be selling them earlier. Ridvan cost us £3.4m (add-ons take it to £5m). Is that the criteria? "Continually outstanding"? Bassey was a bombscare at the start - and that was after a year of not starting a game - so he wouldn't count. Bassey needed time to develop. (He was older than Ridvan when he was written off... 👀) (Dessers was never worth £5m. I said so at the time. Terrible business. That doesn't mean we can't get use out of him.) Ridvan does fit the model. Your - or my - opinion of him is irrelevant in that regard.

  2. Back in 2012, it was hard watching a Rangers team cast into the lower reaches of Scottish football. There were a few bright lights; Lee Wallace's commitment to the club, Barrie McKay's verve and, Lewis Macleod's determination to prove, 'there can be only one'. I thought Lewis shone brightest, undersold by David Somers for £900,000 and, two appalling knee injuries at Brentford saw the diminishing of what could have been a stellar career. He is only 30 years of age, I wish him every success as Rangers Academy Coach.

  3. I never liked international breaks. Not least as it whips up threads like this ...

  4. When Castore first arrived on the scene I thought their quality was a lot better than the crap we had been served up. That said, I’m now heartily sick of their contrarian design and marketing. Enough of the smartarse products, this is a football club, not a fashion house.

  5. I remember forty plus years past, Rangers signed a precocious teenage striker from Dundee, Ian Redford. It was a club record fee of £210,000 for the Perthshire lad, he had scored 35 goals in 80 appearances for the Dens Parkers. His second game for Rangers was at Ibrox against Partick Thistle and we started him at left back. Thus, the precedent having been set, Dessers should be our left fullback on Saturday when we face Hibs.

  7. What age is Dessers? What age is Yilmaz? It's interesting when people only focus on one aspect of the player trading model but ignore others.

  8. Lad at my work is going over to Germany for the Euros and told me I was a miserable git when I said they won't get out of the group. I think I'll be proved right. Scotland have some decent players but are an average side, overall.

  10. A couple of years past at the Rangers AGM, I thought a chap from Edinburgh asked a good question. He was mid thirties and told as a lad of travelling through to Ibrox on the supporters bus. His old man and other adults in the club bunged him a couple of quid and he entered the Rangers shop, knowing he could purchase a bar of Rangers chocolate and a club keyring. He reminded the Board that dozens of other children did likewise because a fiver got you a couple of items. He ended by stating there was nothing in the shop these days for under fifteen pounds, why? I have a couple of nephews and a niece, I want to give them all an Easter Egg. This morning I went over to Ibrox and was surprised and appalled they no longer stocked Easter Eggs and have no plans to do so in the future. I remember the shop used to stock a selection of Rangers themed eggs, the eggcitement of receiving a Rangers crested mug containing a choccy representation of warmth, shelter and, sustenance. We are playing Hibs at home on Saturday, the club should roll away the stone and resurrect the eggpectation of indulgence. There was an opportunity this week for the club to receive a bit of good publicity. The Orcadian shopkeeper that over ordered several hundred Easter Eggs on the island of Sanday was looking to offload. Bung the RNLI and take the eggs and get Broxi to hand them out pre-match. The receiving kids would have been eggstatic. We used to sing at this time of year : There is a green hill far away Without a city wall Where our dear Lord Was crucified He died to save us alllllllllllllllllllllll together now, the cry was no Easter Eggs. Sort it Rangers.

  11. Castore are our kit manufacturer and distributor, the original topic was on merchandise as a whole, hence Castore are not solely to blame. The entire merchandise falls under Rangers' control, so lack of merchandising options, outwith match day wear / kit is nothing to do with Castore and everything to do with Rangers. Your experiences with Castore quality and sizing are completely different to mine, Ive ever had an issue. Admit that I've only purchased a few select kits for one of my sons, a couple of items for myself and a few for relatives. As for the designs, especially 2nd, 3rd and 4th kits, they are never gonna please everyone. Simple tho, if you don't like them, don't buy them. Have read that Castore are "partnering" with Umbro to design / manufacture and supply sportswear, so maybe we'll be wearing Umbro next season.

  12. Is the modern 'full back' more important as a defender or as an attacker? Opine. Or discuss, if you wish. (Note that a midfield general, from Ajaccio FC, then in France's Second Division, observed that attack is the best form of defence. He went on to conquer Europe, thereafter, with what was styled Boneyball.)

  16. Not really sure what he learns from playing Dykes and Adams before Shankland. We know what they can do (and can't do). Surely it would be prudent to get Shankland up to speed in as many games as possible.

  17. Dunno if I'd agree with that, I like the big man, he finds some really good positions and keeps coming back for more, but his finishing and decision making are very poor. I don't think you can compare the contributions of a full back and a striker, apples n oranges. I wouldn't be bothered if Dessers stays, as an option against diddy teams he does okay, but in bigger games, and particularly in europe, we can't be having a striker who converts as little chances as he does. I don't really see anyone lauding Ridvan, tbh our support rarely lauds anyone more than they should.

  18. Throw in Charlton, and you'd need 500M GBP. Mind you, that would be your forward line sorted. How much wages would they command today?
