  1. I’ve no idea what the treaty provisions are for return but the EU would easily bend rules to let the UK back in for two reasons. The UK is a valuable asset to have in the union and the EU detests the thought of anyone leaving. They would probably fly the kite of a re-entry fee which remainomaniacs would fall over themselves to pay.
  2. I know what you mean, dB, but the Wolves and to a lesser extent, Burnley, have some pedigree.
  3. Surely the Parliamentary Conservative Party knows that neither is electable. Ms Mordaunt, maybe. Say what you like about May, she slugged it out this morning. I thought she was a goner after twenty minutes but three hours later she was still on the bridge and everyone else exhausted. The deck was still burning though.
  4. I’m not quite sure of the sequence of the events but was there not a short time lapse between the alleged gesturing and the assault by Ferdinand? If Collum was offended by the gesturing why did he not card Candeias immediately? If he had done so Ferdinand would not have perpetrated the assault and would not have been booked himself. Ferdinand and St Mirren have been let down badly by Collum. Something should be done.
  5. That’s it in a nutshell. And there’s thousands of the useful idiots.
  6. Aberdeen’s star player touted ,not just in local press, as a contender for Baxter’s place in the national team. His role at Aberdeen was creative. Didn’t look quite so good at that with Rangers but taking a step back to defence transformed him. Brilliant at reading the game. Saw his debut in a friendly against the Arsenal along with Alec Smith from Dunfermline.
  7. All of that is true but since the Roxborough/Brown years, I haven’t been able to bother. I’ve gone from boyhood expectation that Scotland would win no matter who, except maybe Hungary and South Americans, to the roller coaster of magnificent defeat and unexpected victory (did I get that the right way round?) and now to apathy. Very wrong of me, I know.
  8. I saw the trailer and was repelled by the presenter’s greeting. The programme might serve as a remnder that Scots haven’t always lived up to the presented image of caring, inclusive egalitarianism.
  9. Strange. Did I hear Saudi had cut production by 1M barrels per day?
  10. Can’t remember what mine cost. 30 bob, I think. £1.50 in this new-fangled money.
  11. Nice picture but, trust me, compared to mine, these are positively Gucci.
  12. Massive leather cloggers, huge studs (hammered on) and half a mile of laces. No wonder I was useless.
  13. Nothing against Arsenal but a pity Wolves didn’t hold out for the win. Thank you, City.
  14. I think we’ll be allowed to next week. The interval will enable Chapman’s supporters here, if any, to prepare a summary of the strategical, tactical, logistical and politcal issues justifying Chapman’s notion.
  15. Gonzo’s not saying that. I think he means Remembrance is solemn, not theatrical.
  16. Somebody’s got to keep the Watch in the night, Compo. Just be thankful it’s neither you nor I.
  17. YSaturday matches are dull again. A flicker of interest in ‘Spurs away to Palace. Different story on Sunday. Arsenal v Wolves, a championship decider yesteryear, and City v United. Have United got back enough of their luck to overcome Silva? I hope not. Blades v Owls tonight should be good.
  18. Let me be charitable to the FM. She didn’t see the footage herself and is acting on her office briefing. Still absolutely scandalous.
  19. England’s batting is always stronger with a South African in it.
