I didn't see a bit of bother, but did hear people referring to an incident that must be this one. One guy suggested it appeared coordinated with the Spaniards attacking, throwing bottles, then the police running in and attacking our fans who were the victims. I dunno about that though. I was in a pub yards from the stadium. I was with a group of about 10 Rangers fans, though there were plenty more in that bar and a number of Seville fans. Got chatting to some who were helping us with our orders at the bar, their English was much better than my Spanish. Had a chat about the football, bought each other drinks and had a great time. My Dad's colleague bought us tickets for the home end. 65 euros, supposed to be right on the half way line, but when we got to the stadium the police herded all Rangers fans into one corner of the stand and surrounded us. We weren't allowed down to the toilets except at half time. Probably the sensible option though, knowing we'd have a lot of fans in the wrong end just keep us all together. Annoyed we ended up in the "cheap" seats though.

Sorry guys, went to Spain Sunday and I only arrived back at 2a.m. this morning. (Assume I was down for this weekend).

It refers to some of the people who seized control of the RST 18 months ago. Not the guys who left.

That the conversation took a ridiculous turn. The vast majority of the fans >99% have no idea what happend with the RST, that was clearly a big issue. But we'll just never discuss it, fully, in truth and then pretend that everyone is trustworthy. It's a nonsense.

Fair do's mate. I'm not trying to "help" so much as wonder why we pussy foot around a man who ruined the RST when they were clsoe to achieving a big step towards their overall aims.

Disagree. I don't often agree with MF, but it's clear that the lack of clarity on such a major issue within the trust holds them back now and will do until it is resolved in public. Might not be a popular answer, but doesn't make it any less true.

I got bored reading the thread so i'll summarise. Essentially (and I say nothing no one doesn't know) an RST meeting was arranged (presumably by Mark Dingwall) in the absence of Frankie and a few others. The reason for this meeting, ultimately, was to help MD seize control of the RST whilst ousting Malcolm McNiven (I think) and a few others who didn't toe Mark's party line. This all occurred around the time that the trust were getting close to getting a fan on the board and MD wanted it to be him or someone he could influence. This RST EGM meeting, that occured in spite of or against the wishes of (at least certainly in the absence of) the people MD wanted rid of on the RST board occurred. When Frankie etc found out, they were left in an untenable (sp) position and felt like they had to quit. Just prior to this, the RST were the strongest they had been. Their quitting left a "strong" RST in the hands of MD etc. Fortunately, he and his cronies managed to fuck that up. And since then it's been a downward slope. Apologies if I missed something out. Someone on here recently stated that if the current RST board really had Rangers interests above their own they'd step down right away if it helped achieve aims such as a fan on the board. In the case of Frankie, those ex-board members and even UCB I believe that to be the case. Unfortunately I do no believe that MD has the interests of Rangers above himself and that is borne out by his actions. See the STS report as a good example.

Will have to watch the game again as thought Davis gave away possession to often. -
Before I write anything, I have to admit to not having read Hateley's latest peice. I've become tired of his hatchet jobs on Kris Boyd for one. The fact that's he's barely any better than DJ; "the trained hun" on whatever radio station he frequents, barely helps. If Hateley's comments, in any way, came across as those of a Rangers man disappointed by the poor performances of the current squad then fair do's. In reality, the man merely puts his name to any Rangers-bashing story his paper wants. As stated, I never read the current peice. And it may well be a well written and argued position. However, the phrase "throw enough shite" springs to mind. Any idiot will be right, occasionaly. Richard Gough is a different case. Unlike your Hateley's, DJ's and Dodds, Gough is not a man who appears to delight in tarnishing the name of Rangers. So whilst I am not so quick to congratulate Hateley as many appear to be, Gough's comments carry a bit more weight.

If you're to believe everyone on here performances have been universally shit since Smith came back but attendances have only noticably (sp) decreased to coincide with the recession. I'm not saying performances have no effect, but without the recession people will come and watch a winning team regardless of performance. I would suggest that the recession is having a greater effect as was the lack of a "big name" in our CL opponents.
-
World wide recession???? Barcelona - Lyon - Stuttgart. Sevilla - Stuttgart - Unirea.

A bucket-load of irony in this post.

I would contend that people who are silent or negative at games and then complain players don't give there all at games, players who have less of an emotional tie to the club are hypocrites. Do you everything you can to boost the chance of success of the club, or do you merely turn up to be entertained.
-
If we're going down the it's everyones right to what they want, then why are you getting annoyed at me slating these people. Surely I have a right to do what I want?
-
Don't reply to me because I have nothing to say to you. You add nothing to any thread but negativity and i'm bored of you already.
-
Who says I was questioning you. If you do support the team when you attend it clearly wasn't aimed at you.
-
Pretending everything is shit is not a sensible approach either. Asking for a never ending stream of unproven managers til we luck out with one who plays pretty football, particularly in a time when playing winning football and earning the CL money from league titles is paramoung, is pretty fucking stupid too. And I don't represent anything. Only have a 100% negative outlook is not healthy and is not representative of what is going on. Just because I don't share your morbid views does not mean I think everything is great so don't try and polarise my arguement or make my view point more extreme than it is in an effort to make yours seem less ridiculous.

Frankie and Pete in a compromising position? -
I'm beginning to think my farts make more sense than Totti or Spanner. Tims or arseholes? who can say. Whilst I often disagree vehemently with MF or Gisa, at least they add value to the debate. I don't have the time now to consider the transfer figures now MF but will have a proper look in due course.

I clicked the thanks button as you said we stuck with PLG longer than we should have. Apparently this incompetent should have got more time, though I expect that is due to him holding a foreign passport.

How many fans deserve to stay? How many of them do their best for Rangers every time they turn up at Ibrox? Doesn't excuse the players. But I reckon it's a valid point. Do you turn up and support your team (or do you boo after a few minutes because you're not watching 1970 Brazil?)? Don't get me wrong, of course we question the players. But judge yourself by the same high standards. Do you embody everything it is to be a Ranger? Or do you sit on your hands and bitch and moan at the pub?
-
Not picking Boyd, and the McGregor, Ferguson and McCulloch issues worked out well for him. But at least he didn't let the Celtic:Rangers ratio get too high.

I agree that the calculating the points as soon as the group is drawn kind of ideas are nonsense. I'll bet no one predicted Unirea would get 4 points off us, a draw against Stuttgart (so far) and be leading Sevilla. But in a one off game, versus a team we'd beaten at home on both previous occasions (both recent) who are stuggling in their league, I think positive predictions were realistic. In any case, it doesn't matter now, unfortunately.
