Ally McCoist has rated his prospects of making a move for Australian international midfielder Mile Jedinak as “less than 50/50”.

Jedinak, who is available on a free transfer having left Turkish side Genclerbirligi, was at Murray Park on Monday touring the club’s facilities.

“There’s a little bit of work to be done there,” McCoist said.

“It’ll be a long road before it’s through, or not through.

“There’s a chance but I would have to say less than 50/50.”

The 26-year-old was linked with Crystal Palace last month and reports also attributed Harry Redknapp with an interest in taking him to Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

Jedinak started his professional career with Sydney United in 2000, spending three seasons with the club before switching to Croatian side NK Varteks Varazdin.

A year later, he returned to his previous employers, playing two more seasons before signing for Central Coast Mariners.

In 2008, he left Australia for Turkey to sign for Genclerbirligi. He also spent time on loan with another Turkish club, Antalyaspor, before departing his parent club on a free transfer at the end of the 2010/11 season.

The 6ft 3in player has 22 international caps for the Socceroos and would require a work permit to move to Scotland if Rangers decided to make a move.

But, having featured heavily for Australia - ranked 22nd in the world - over the past two years, he would face little problem in obtaining the necessary endorsement from the Scottish Football Association.
