  2. I just want to say that, much to @Billchagrin, Thank you der Berliner for always posting the transfer rumours thread, maintaining it and managing it, and your also posting current squad for us. Very much appreciated I will refrain from my thoughts on transfermarket though, lol

  3. In addition to those who have come all of the way through the Academy, players have been recruited into this year’s intake from other clubs. Cameron Cooper has joined the club from Partick Thistle, Kieron Willox has signed from Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Paul Nsio from Lambeth Tigers, Souleyman Mandey from Pulse Academy and Mason Munn from Glentoran. https://www.rangers.co.uk/Article/rangers-under-18s-squad-update/4t3lwKQ9Eq7uhve7teCNak

  5. A massive shame that he left. Definitely a faux pas from Gerrard & Co. We have never properly replaced him and he was the perfect foil for Tav.

  6. Think that's a bit optimistic of Southampton. If Ajax are selling Antony for 95 million.

  7. First time in years we have made the CL. After everything we have been through and people are complaining about the price? I went to Seville in 2009 to see us in the CL and paid 50 euro for a match day ticket from their ticket office. is this package really comparatively expensive compared to that as an example nearly 13 years ago. Or perhaps we have just been out of the big times for far too long. Not sure we can complain about ticket prices and expect big signings at the same time.

  8. Yes looks a hardy little chap and the physical side of the game shouldn’t phase him. Used his body well tonight. I’m impressed

  11. I think you have to allow Devine and Ridvan to settle themselves into the first XI jersey, in their customary positions. Nor give King the job of the only centre half in a back three.

  12. In seriousness, Club Brugge are in a different league to us in terms of their use of the transermarkt. They have a great track record for signing quality young players and flipping them for big money, an example for us to follow. To be fair, we've taken steps in that direction too with the signings of Yilmaz and Matondo (and maybe eventually the signings of Sands and Tillman). Time will tell whether those players are good enough to bring in the fees Brugge have brought in, it's all about quality scouting. Bassey is our obvious big success to date. We have a long way to go though, clubs like Brugge have far more money than us to spend because they've been doing this for years whilst we have generally been very pragmatic.

  13. All I will say is that I am VERY glad that none of us from Gersnet are managing and running the business that is Rangers. The Tims would be absolutely spot on..... admin 1690 would definitely be right around the corner

  14. We could. Something we have to remember too is that the club have non-playing projects that need funded too - Edmiston House won't be cheap and it won't be cheap turning the Store into a bar. These capital projects all come from the same funds - but one thing to remember is that things like Edmiston House and a bar at the stadium SHOULD see increased revenue (and hopefully profit) which in future years CAN be invested into the playing squad. I think the Board need to be commended for this - instead of looking at just the playing squad they have realised we need to increase revenue streams and have committed to projects which will allow that to be given a chance

  15. Stevie Thompson and Neil McCann apart, their collective pain is strangely invigorating. What with Carson’s, Donohoe’s and English’s input, their collective output is about as objective as being strapped to an armchair and forced to watch an episode of that other byproduct of the emerald isle, Mrs Brown’s boys is funny. Just about as funny as a dose and objective as Pravda in equal measure.

  16. I think the set up is good for us. First game Ajax who have lost their two best players and wont have time to replace and integrate Antony's replacement Last tie at home - if needing a result the best place to have to do so is Ibrox

  17. I am fine with Devine taking up the understudy to Tav role. We have to start giving the younger lads a real pathway and reduce/reallocate the spend on back up options.

  18. Wee reminder of the squad how it stands ... by position. TM Rangers Squad by Position For I see a lot of people asking for a right winger when we actually have signed Matondo for exactly that slot. You can click on any player, then open the STATS pull-down and click on ALL SEASONS. You will get a screen that lists the positions (amongst many other things) where that player has played in throughout his career. That in turn makes TM to put him primarily in one slot, while also offering alternative slots. E.g. Matondo played most of last season as a right winger and was pretty decent. It overtook his use as a left winger, but he can play across the attack line, which is one reason we signed him. While Wright was mostly used as a left winger by Aberdeen, due to the irreplacable Kent, and the loss of Hagi, we shoe-horned him into the right winger role, hence he is now listed as right winger. There are also some misconceptions about Lawrence, whom we utilized in an leftish AM role, but who played most of his games for Derby as a left winger (perhaps not in recent memory). And he is rather versatile too, as we have seen. We do have a number of people capable of playing across the front line and, e.g. you see in his goal return that Colak is an out and out central striker. He hardly ventures to the wings and is there where he has to be. Would love to see him paired with Morelos up top.

  21. Its ironic he left Rangers complaining he wasn't financially backed by the board. 1. Chelsea – £167.93million 2. Arsenal – £118.86million 3. West Ham United – £100.49million 4. Manchester City – £97.87million 5. Leeds United – £95.08million 6. Tottenham – £91.71million 7. Nottingham Forest – £85.28million 8. Liverpool – £77.21million 9. Wolves – £66.24million 10. Manchester United – £65.13million 11. Newcastle United – £59.4million 12. Southampton – £50.76million 13. Fulham – £50.76million 14. Aston Villa – £49.05million 14. Brentford – £45.45million 16. Everton – £32.4million 17. Crystal Palace – £31.14million 18. Bournemouth – £24.21million 19. Brighton – £17.64million 20. Leicester City – £0 planetfootball.com/quick-reads/premier-league-transfer-spend-summer-2022-liverpool-man-utd-chelsea/ I genuinely expected the Villa Board to give him some serious funds.

  22. I think its a fair point. The money from Gerrard and Patterson may have been reinvested in the January window. But not sure how much we really spent bar Zukowski. But back then our financial outlook was very different so while its ok to be disappointed with the lack of January spend its hard to be extremely critical of it.

  23. Enlightening PQ piece as always @26th of foot. Interestingly, it puts into context the filed copy report on PQ web next day. From it's begrudging title "Dogged Rangers fight way to place with big boys" ' the article sets a tone of a very fortunate win from a "little team" riding their luck to the limit to grab a fortunate place at Europe's top table. All the profligate PSV players are named and shamed, as the article slanders PSV's failings. Tom rolls out full verbal armoury. "Slapstick, purgatory, wastefulness, missed chances etc", As for Rangers? By the end of first half according to Tom, "Rangers were "Hanging on" and "needed that whistle like they needed their next breath" No hope for our supporters, steeling ourselves to saying goodbye to glamour CL ties and " Hello Europa League old friend. We're back" Now it doesn't take a genius to figure all this copy would be written at half time as Tom prepared the final stamp on our death warrant. So dear old Tom was forced to change the narrative. Searching for that acceptable line. He has to up the tempo. Rangers "doggedness" is mentioned several times. Lawrence, Colak and Tillman are the only 3 Rangers outfield players mentioned. PSV has 7 or 8 players referenced. Our away record in Europe is poor. Only one win since the beginning of last season. Apparently for our goal, Ramalho was entitled to miss the danger caused by Tillman, as for the first hour, the most powerful telescopic lens could not have picked him out. No mention from Tom of the great team counter pressing for the goal. Rather "one of the most glorious tap-ins in our history" For a Chief Sports writer the article is downright sloppy and underwhelming. You can almost sense his disappointment between the lines. It belittles and disregards our teams European exploits over 4 seasons. It downplays the Europa League as a "little boys" competition conveniently overlooking the fact that most of our achievements in the EL have been beating teams "parachuted" out of the "big boy" league. Without actually stating the fact, it implies that the other Glasgow club somehow belong in this heady environment? Why not remind your readers Tom? To which club do Celtic have to thank for their automatic entry to the CL? As you state @26th of footObjectivity? Not from the man from Limerick I fear. Really poor stuff!

  33. Completely agree Re Simons. Boy was very good in his cameo and very dangerous. Having seen him now I am very glad he didnt get more game time. I have followed him for about a decade, since he was at La Masia - he used to come to Bermuda every summer and participate in a camp here for one of the local coaches who got to know him and his Dad - so I was always interested in his progress. Boy will be a star

  34. I thought he was quality. That said, I would have loved to have got Xavi Simons - did more in 20 minutes than Veerman did in 2 games against us. That boy will go places for sure !

  39. Yes, undoubtedly but there will also be non-football spending objectives and there are one or two legal uncertainties still floating around. There's no doubt our financial position will be much healthier than before but, since we've been a loss-making basket case for years now, that isn't necessarily saying as much as some seem to believe. One thing a prudent board might to is establish a cash reserve as a buffer against future debt.

  40. Shelf life for a Premiership manager down south is much longer than in Scotland. Moyes has been at WHU for nearly 3 years. Not one current top flight manager in Scotland has been in a job that long. Only 3 managers (15%) have been appointed in EPL since Gerrard joined Villa. In Scotland, 7 have (58%).

  41. The oldest truth in business is that you can't spend income, only profit. If you don't know our profitability or cashflow then commenting on income as a basis for further spending is a pointless exercise.
