Surely any sensible person judges a player on their recent performances and not ones from two to three years ago? Kent just had his contract terminated because he's been rubbish in Turkey. He was rubbish with us for two seasons prior to that as well (like absolutely useless). I'm going to call it Benign Nostalgia Delusion Syndrome.5 points

Cerny has scored the same amount of goals that Kent scored in his final season with us, in 32 fewer games. And Cerny hasn't been great. #JustSaying5 points

Sadly that what's our club has become. A collection of memories of triumphs and players from yesteryear. When got demoted we should have rebooted our whole set up from the bottom and up. We should have created a brand new version of our club that was befitting a football club in the 21st century. What have we got now? A club that lurches from one season to the next without any structure or bigger picture planning. We also have a large amount fan's who seem to think that 9 in a row was a few seasons ago. It gives me no pleasure in saying this but as the Tims have moved forward on all fronts at great pace and we've stagnated and stood still.4 points

The constant want to go back to former players is boring. Have we forgotten what Kent and Morelos were like in the last year of their contracts4 points

No, no and a thousand times no. He's a shadow of the player he was at his best for us. Koppen has spoken about the trading model recently, Kent coming in on big wages and a signing fee on a short term deal whilst investing big in Cortés makes no sense whatsoever. We want the board to stop fixating on the clubs success in the past and create new glorious history in the here and now - the fans begging Kent to come back fly's in the face of that. I'll greet if we sign him again. It would be an indictment.3 points

You're literally arguing with yourself. I've only stated that Kent's return is very poor. It's a fact. I've not claimed Matondo is a better player - that's you moving the goalposts - only that his goal involvement per 90 is better. It's a fact. For me, goal involvement is a key metric; It's their job. If it was just winners medals then Scott Wright is better than all the players mentioned above (3 vs Kent's 2). Kent was a good servent, but your disillusionment with our current predicament is clouding your judgement (my opinion): his end product was awful (fact).3 points

Time machines haven't been invented yet, so peak Kent is long gone.3 points

CEOs do not get to dictate who is on the board of directors. As for the suggestion that Dave King becoming CEO, we do not need a 69 year old who lives overseas as CEO. Douglas Park isn't a director and Graeme Park is only one of six directors on then board, so I'm unsure how he is calling the shots.3 points

You can get 14/1 for an Aberdeen victory on Saturday. Seems the bookies know Aberdeen as well as we do.2 points

All we need now is for him to use Rangers facilities to 'keep fit while he's looking for a club' and the media will go into overdrive...2 points

Makes some of the arguments even more ridiculous (and I'm a fine one to talk!).2 points

I'm not, and haven't been, challenging your opinion that Kent was a good player. You're entitled to it. I've only said his return was poor, which was factual. You've then went off on different tangents trying to argue against a fact. I don't see the point of this.2 points

His contact has been terminated because he's a dud and we're top heavy with duds at the moment2 points

Don't think I've enjoyed watching any matches on that pitch they use. I'm not confident we'll pick up three points, as we rarely seem to do well after international breaks and usually struggle at Killie. At least Celtc and/or Aberdeen will definitely drop points this weekend.2 points

His penultimate season with us was even worse. His Goals per 90 is 0.15 over 218 games. That's Cortes' numbers after 7 (not quite full) games. Kent's just not very good; he never has been. He can beat a man but has no end product.2 points

Although the contract was still with Rangers and it was Rangers who suffered because of King's disagreements with Ashley.2 points

Hopefully some daft club pick him up soon, so we don't have to endure endless rumours about him returning to Ibrox. He has been useless for a good couple of years and I very much doubt Clement will be remotely interested anyway.2 points

The sheep have had a few flukey wins on their recent run, so I fully expect the usual humping for them at the Piggery. I just hope we can take advantage, either way.1 point

3 points and no injuries on that awful surface. Don’t care what the score is as long as we win1 point

You're the one moving goalposts. Stats don't paint an entire picture and can cloud the "facts". Otherwise, Tav would be lauded by our entire fanbase rather than ridiculed. You said Matondo could terrorise Dortmund - I asked for an example (still waiting for said example). So was his end product awful during 55 and the run to EL Final? Goal involvement is 1 metric but doesn't define a players ability. Kent was / is better player than anyone we currently have, it's that simple. Kent would walk into this Rangers team, none of those mentioned would make Gerrard' or even Gio's Rangers teams, no matter the 'stats'. Better players win leagues. Again, you've skirted around this. Our current squad is the weakest and poorest quality since the days of Pedro. That's not disillusionment, its my opinion and currently being 3rd in league, dismantled by Lyon and Celtic, failing to beat the poorest Hearts team in decades and struggling to play basic football backs that up. Too many Rangers fans trying way too hard to convince themselves that the current players are good enough to win leagues and go deep into European compitions whilst its blatnently obvious they aren't.1 point

Very tough match ahead on Sunday at what will be a stormy Rugby Park weather wise. All things being equal, can't see past the following side but I wonder if the manager will look to strengthen the midfield with a Sterling or Raskin whilst leaving out Lawrence. Not much bench depth likely with various people still unavailable...1 point

Exact this. Kent lost interest and wasnt near the same player. I was a huge Kent fan and if it was the Kent we seen under Gerrard it would be a no brainer to try re-sign him but he isnt / wouldnt be the same player. For going back to former players it should always be case by case. Actually - a good thread would be to see a list of players who came back to the club and was a success. Kenny Miller and Craig Moore are the first 2 that jump off the top of my head that worked out.1 point

Apparently released so they can bring in another "foreign" player. He'd certainly a far better option than Cortes, Cerny, Matondo or McCausland.1 point

The next update on all will be Monday 11th November 2024 and I'll post the links then. It's completely sorted now, but 1) I wanna make sure the formula entered works out and 2) I'll have a better idea re these European formats and how they work out after this 8 GAMES part.. so after 4 games (by then) I'll know how it finishes off. Reason for the delay this season is the amount of players coming and going... there was a few errors but in hindsight (being a pedantic bassa) that is one of the tasks that appeals to me - get the feeling that subconsciously I deliberately make them. So.. Monday 11th November 2024 at around dinner time (ish).1 point
