He played in 3 separate World Cups, and, interestingly, in Argentina he missed the debacles with Peru and Iran, but played when we beat the second best side in the World, Holland. Just coincidence I'm sure. He captained the best club side in Europe, arguably the world, won 3 European Cups, 5 English League titles and 2 Scottish League titles and played helped Sampdoria win the first trophy in their entire history. For four years running he was named in the PFA Team Of The Year and also named in the PFA Team Of the Century 20 years after he retired. For 4 or 5 seasons Souness would have been a first choice for any club, and any country, in the world. I don't know what your definition of 'World class' is but if Souness doesn't qualify for it then I don't know who does.6 points

I read this article over the weekend and found it interesting. It's not an issue that is unique to Rangers but not investing in youth when we were demoted was a terrible decision. As for promoting / developing them so they are ready for 1st team / squad is another discussion. I think we need to get the B-Team back into competitive leagues. Hopefully it's something our new Chairman and new CEO put near the top of their "to-do lists".3 points

I think he was also linked while he was at Monaco when they went for Tedesco so likely, its just lazy journalism, but you never know, usually no smoke without fire2 points

Rangnick might be available soon. Civil war in Austria. Make him DoF; give him free reign.2 points

Hence why Rangers withdrew their team from the lowland league2 points

I think Bill took the huff after a spell in the Lounge sin bin where I forgot to restore his posting privileges. IIRC, Calscot also left over something trivial back in the day. bmck is working away hard but doesn't have the time to post whilst Craig was also busy with personal commitments so has taken a wee sabbatical but will appear back online soon enough I'm sure.2 points

He was excellent, covering up for Hanley's mistakes and poor positioning. Just needs to stay injury free and could be a future captain of Rangers and Scotland.2 points

I would say that the Celtic 65/67-73/74 was far superior to our run of leagues when we were practically buying the league and let’s not kid ourselves we overspent won the domestic titles apart from the first champions league our European record was dire over in the east end they dominated the league by playing really good attacking football as well as performing to the highest standards in European competition they even won the quiz ball show on the Telly.2 points

Very good point regarding Europe. I meant to say in my post that during our 9-in-a-row we really should have done much better in Europe. The inaugural CL being the exception.2 points

For anyone who's been a member for a while, do you ever wonder what happened to some of the people who used to post here (good and bad)? Some names that immediately spring to mind for me are Bmck Colshy Jon Jim'll Del (Ian) (bump into Ian at Ibrox occasionally) Smalce 8ball @Gribz (still here along with @Frankie and @ian1964). We had a few meet ups back in the day both at Ibrox and a few in Belfast. Hope they are all good and still supporting Rangers. I'll have missed a few and apologies for that, it's my age 😀1 point

And a Scotland victory. Which means something but I don't know what (other than keeping Clarke in a job).1 point

I have heard it suggested that the Belgian FA interest was part of the reason we renewed Clement's contract - i.e. to secure value for the club if they come in for him. It was a Motherwell fan who suggested it though, so take it with whatever pinch or sack of salt you wish.1 point

Aribo was 23 when he joined. Bassey, 20 is a better example and he showed how important physicality can be.1 point

I think if you take Aribo and Bassey, it shows you don't have to look far. They were obviously at the top end of the youth age bracket, but Bassey was signed as a B-Team player but quickly showed he had what was required. That's the physicality and skill level we need to be targeting.1 point

Not saying we should but you are on the back foot if you have to look further afield with the added complications that it entails. Eg. Homesick kids from Andalucia.1 point

We shouldn't be restricting ourselves to Scottish youths.1 point

Will do. Juffery's still around. I occasionally see him out and about, and he was supposed be on the supporters bus to the Hearts game last week, but he pulled out on the morning of the game.1 point

The 64/65 season before Celtic embarked on 9iar, they finished 8th !!! We came in at 5th. The season we won the ECWC was during their 9iar and we finished 3rd behind Aberdeen. I'd settle for a Europa League repeat !! Our league was relatively a lot better in European terms and much more competitive during the late 60's and early 70's. So I think it difficult to argue against it having more merit. We had a much better team to provide opposition in those times and reached 2 European finals. Celtic, in the 90's were impovishered and provincial like opposition. The least merit is reserved for the more recent 8.75iar.1 point

England huffed and puffed in 1st half and sending off changed the game and allowed England to run out easy winners.1 point

Smith told 2 funny stories. One about Jimmy Bell / Kyle Lafferty and one about Duncan Ferguson / Jim McLean. Neither for on here! I can remember Smith playing for us and thought he was a very good player and struck up a lethal partnership with DJ. This helped us win a few trophies. He also had decent spells at Man City and Brighton. I liked him as a player when he played for us, but some of posters older than me will be better placed to say. As for his commentary career, I don't mind him. He got a few things wrong yesterday regarding events but overall he was very good and spoke very well. Souness is Souness - a world class player, part of a legendry Liverpool team, rejuvenated Rangers (we hadn't won the league for 9 seasons). Is / was he perfect, off course not, but none of us are. He will remain one of my Rangers hero's up there with Walter Smith, Jock Wallace, John Greig, Davie Cooper, Super Ally, Richard Gough et al.1 point

Remembrance. A week has passed and hopefully the over wrought emotions have cooled? As someone with seventeen years service and a Rangers supporter, the club have been on a ridiculous journey reference Remembrance these last dozen years. The act of Remembrance should be moments of poignancy conducted with appropriate solemnity. Rangers under the auspices of Craig Whyte, Charles Green, the Easdales, ............. etc travelled a jingoistic road : Bootnecks abseiling from the Sandy Jardine roof with the match ball. A track side stage prop howitzer booming both beginning and end of the minute's silence. Serving Gunners utilising a 105 mm field gun to signal the beginning and end of the minute's silence. Serving members of all three services in uniform circumnavigating the pitch at half-time. I feel last Sunday's game against Hearts was the start of a more appropriate journey. The Jambos have their own relevant history with the McCrae's Battalion story, a true pals' battalion volunteering for service in World War One trenches. Ibrox fell silent as a black and white photograph banner was unfurled with the red poppy petals drifting across on the breeze. The fifty-three year old photograph had poignance, it depicted members of the City of Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment, the Royal Highland Fusiliers alighting from an aircraft. In fact, they were the burial details for three comrades summarily executed in Northern Ireland. As Rangers return to solemnity, the national broadcaster took another dozen steps towards the Ministry for Truth. Sunday evening's Rangers-Hearts Sportscene highlights began with footage of the Ibrox Remembrance with BBC Scotland commentator, Liam McLeod stated, "Ibrox falls silent as it did at every football ground in Scotland". The BBC Scotland website carried a Killie-Sellik match report penned by "good Celtic man"(courtesy of Annie McGuire), Martin Dowden. Derek McInnes gave a post match interview where his criticism of Sellik favourable refereeing decisions was emphasised by, "Celtic even decide when the minute's silence stops. It was awful, Why? It is our ground, our minute's silence". Martin Dowden's Ministry of Truth multi-paragraphed report ignored pre-kick-off happenings and fail failed to include the Killie Gaffer's incisive post match comments. BBC Scotland reserved comments until their evening news the following evening. The Gang Hut's Sports News Correspondent, Chris McLaughlin took ninety seconds to put both sides of the story, quoting twice from the Green Brigades issued statement. Chris offered no conclusion other than opining why Sellik have to suffer embarrassment every year. Peter would have it no other way.1 point

As it's the international break, I thought this would be better here. BMCK was back for a spell last year, iirc. We spoke about Dostoevsky. I felt inferior.1 point
