RANGERS Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Fraser Thornton as Chair. He will join the club on 16 December 2024. Fraser has held many senior leadership and board positions throughout his career, in both private and public companies. Having worked in the international drinks industry for the last 30 years, he offers a vast range of experience in stakeholder engagement; spanning political, commercial and public interest groups. He has extensive management experience across sales, brand marketing, strategy development and finance. Raised in Glasgow, Fraser graduated from the University of Stirling before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in Glasgow in 1993. Between 1996 and 2021, Fraser held multiple executive leadership positions in international businesses working across several regions of the world. He was a council member of the Scotch Whisky Association for 15 years until 2021. Since 2021 Fraser has held several non-executive positions and he is currently Interim Chair of Scottish Golf. Rangers’ Interim Chairman, John Gilligan, commented: “On behalf of the board, I’m delighted to welcome Fraser to the club as Chair. “As a lifelong supporter and season ticket holder, he has a deep knowledge of the club which together with a highly successful executive track record and an impressive range of non-executive experience makes him an excellent fit for this role. “We look forward to welcoming him, and our CEO Patrick Stewart to their new roles, on Monday. “My time as Interim Chair of our club has been a wonderful and emotional experience. My sincere thanks goes to the board for their trust in me, and for their support during this time.” Rangers Appoint Fraser Thornton As Chairman | Rangers Football Club4 points

Despite the recent upturn, I'm still very nervous and apprehensive about tomorrow. Going along more in hope than expectation. However, come kick-off I'm sure I'll have the battle fever on.4 points

Hopefully this is not too negative on the eve of the cup final but what if we lose tomorrow? Are people wanting Clement to go? For a lot of people, I think it will come down to the performance (win, lose or draw). I want him to stay either way as we are starting to see signs of progress with all the young players.4 points

I worked with Fraser briefly back in the early 90s, and also knew his dad, who was also a massive bluenose and their company was a sponsor of Rangers for many years. Fraser has mainly been involved in the whisky/drinks industry over the years. I haven't come across him for many, many years so can't comment on his suitability, but he certainly knows the club and the Scottish football scene. I guess I'd hoped for someone with a wider range of experience and perhaps not have the connection with the club, but hopefully Fraser will step up and be a great chairman. An article on his dad: RANGERS fan Bill Thornton, former chairman and chief executive of Burn Stewart, spent (pounds) 1m of the distiller's money buying shares in the Ibrox club, it has emerged, leaving investors in the debt-laden firm nursing a paper loss of (pounds) 600,000. However, the East Kilbride firm, which has since been taken over, is unrepentant about its brush with the volatile world of football finance. Ian Bankier, chief executive of the renamed CL World Brands, said the company may seek a similar arrangement with Celtic to boost the popularity of its Scottish Leader whisky blend among Old Firm fans. Burn Stewart's investment in Rangers dates from 1995, when the club invited selected corporate figures to become honorary directors in exchange for a five-year ''soft loan'' of (pounds) 1m.4 points

Yeah same here. When it was pointed out on the RSC bus my first thought was that it would trigger a few folks both within and outwith our support. Shout out to the UBs for another great display before the game.3 points

Great thread so far. Defeat should not cost the manager his job. Things are going in the right direction now.2 points

Apologies that wasn't aimed at you, you never said you didn't like it. Probably shouldn't have quoted you. Apologies again. It was a general reaponse to those who slated the UBs for a message that may or may not have been inspired by MAGA. Having been a member of TBO I know what time and effort and goes into creating these displays. So I get defensive as it's easy to sit and aim criticism when not knowing or understanding what goes into these. There was / is nothing worse working your bollocks off all week on a display then hearing fellow fans say "that display was shit at the weekend". Before anyone criticises them, they should maybe look at one of the many videos on YouTube showing what it takes to get these things ready.2 points

OMG!! Fraser is a very good friend of mine, albeit we have lost touch over the years.2 points

Compo, I loved that game, I stood in the schoolboy Enclosure and watched Bud Johnson hit the bye-line and stand up that ball for DJ. I love the photograph because DJ is framed by four Sellik players, Bobby Murdoch, Billy McBungle, Jim Craig and, Davie Hay. Further, remember Evan Williams is in front(this side of the camera) of DJ. We had gone five seasons winning hee-haw from the Scottish Cup Final replay win in 1966 to DJ's nod to glory. It was the first light at the end of a most dark tunnel.2 points

And you know that how? Or are you just surmising? Again, hats of to the UBs for all their TIFOs. Hopefully they have something special planned for tomorrow. Oh, and it reads like you've been triggered. Edit - I'm no fan of Trump, but agree 100% with the sentiment behind the banner.2 points

I am quite politically savvy but never made the connection. Thought it was a simple plea to the team.2 points

A win on Sunday, and a few good performances, bringing good results, especially in the upcoming Europa ties, with a few goals on the way, and the Young Team may have to change its banner to - 'MAKING RANGERS GREAT AGAIN'2 points

Doesn't really bother me, it's a wee bit unoriginal is all I'd say, I'd echo the sentiments that we have a rich history that would be more appropriate. Canny knock the guys for the effort they put in.1 point

So we can't use Make Rangers Great Again as some think its linked to Donald Trump and American politics? What a sad state of affairs. So what do we use then? Rangers Must Be Made Great Again? Doesn't have the same ring to it.1 point

The pitch forks will be out if we lose - with FammyC front and centre - but I've argued elsewhere that I don't think Clement will be sacked regardless, because he's aligned with the project and the finances won't allow it. Unless the new CEO and Chair have different ideas.1 point

Twenty minutes gone and the Cottagers a goal up at Anfield. Everton level. Blow the whistle now, ref.1 point

The thing is, this references a slogan which is utterly hollow and built around lie after lie. How's about this? To be a Ranger is to sense the sacred trust of upholding all that such a name means in this shrine of football.1 point

Either way any reference to this loathsome individual, his overall concept or his insane followers is sad.1 point

I think it’s 57 but neither my eyesight nor my counting are any good. If it is 57 maybe one of the UBs is clairvoyant.1 point

Trump has not been convicted of rape. He’d be banged up in the slammer if he had been. He lost a civil suit in which he was found to have sexually abused the plaintiff. There is a difference. A loathsome character nonetheless but I think the reference must have been to the MAGA concept, not the individual.1 point

Play two strikers, have them all geared up like Thursday, and we might be in with a chance. I'll be off working ... with the Eisbären. When I booked that date we were dire and they were flying, so not only do I want to give them any more of my lifetime in the here and now, I was expecting another doing. Tide has turned somewhat, maybe this month can see a change in fortunes. If everyone performs at his best level, we may snatch some silverware after all ...1 point

If he is successful working from London, I don't really see an issue. Some people on FF intimating there are other underlying reasons for his departure.1 point
