  1. Sorry young man, but Rooney was given his debut v Arsenal as a substitute and cracked in a beauty! But generally I agree - Fleck would be better to come in when we're playing a bit better, but he'll be a star for us, don't worry.
  2. I'm with you on this. Don't know what the Toon fans think, though.
  3. Cheers, Frankie. Still an indifferent and bland website though..
  4. Just checked again - which sub menu is it under?
  5. Agree totally. The worst thing is the "Have your say" section - full of fan club comments. I wouldn't be surprised if they were made up. There's also no complete list of the previous season's results.
  6. Agree with Cammy's 11 rather than what he thinks is Ws's. with the following exceptions: Broadfoot at CB in place of Dailly (that's his position) and Velicka up front in place of Cousin - he knows all about Kaunas and is fullt match fit. But, you're right - there's no room for slip-ups. 1-0 would be a great result.
  7. Agree. It's a crazy decision, given our propensity to pick up more than our share of injuries. Moreover, if we lose heavily - and that is a possibility - what will that do to our confidence?
  8. ^^ I think you're right - WS doesn't even know his formation, the friendlies tell us that. I know he's never had his full squad available, but you'd have at least thought we'd get a clue from the pre-season games. We can take it Miller will start, but it seems he'll be deployed on the left like v. Schalke and Raith yeterday. Because of the sheer numbers of strikers, and the dearth of midfielders, 4-3-3 makes sense. So your team isn't far out. Main area of debate is left flank - Beasley/Lafferty (though he can play anywhere up front)/Fleck. Don't forget also, though you don't like him, Adam is our best set-piece 'specialist.'! And we may need these free kicks etc. more than ever.
  9. What is it with our club and injuries? Is it just me or do we seem to get much more than other clubs? The law of averages would seem to say that these things even themselves out over the season, but we seem to get much, much more than anyone else. If so, why? I'm seriously worried about the Kaunas game, now.
  10. Sure it's a must, but it's not as big a must as getting into the Champions League proper, so we can get the dosh just to buy one or two players. Dread to think where we'd be if we hadn't made the group stages last year. Probably unable to hang on to Carlos and MacG I would think.
  11. Couldn't agree more. Thought the Healy episode was amusing; brought back memories of Gazza. Get him signed up! we shouldn't over -react to wind-ups - they have Boruc, we have Healy.
  12. I think that's a good objective analysis. Too many gers fans think we're still living in the Souness era, when English clubs and media were jealous of our spending power. Now I think we have to concentrate all our energies on scouting and finding gems with a good sell-on fee. Maybe that's what we're up to with Lafferty. Been said before, but PSV should be our model - forget high-profile signings. For me just holding on to Cuellar and McGregor is like new signings anyway.
  13. Said on another thread Varynen would be a good signing but apparently McCoist 'distanced' himelf from those reports. Can't for the life of me see why. Can't be the wages; he's not from the premiership. like Mendes.
  14. More than that, he has a bit of 'dig' as well. But sadly wages might be the sticking point.
  15. Took a look at the YouTube clips that Ian posted and thought: this guy is just what we need, two-footed, creative, bit of pace, then guess what? McCoist has "distanced" himself from reports that we could sign a player who is a good age and wouldn't cost the earth. Anyone know the Samaritans number?
  16. Oh, aren't we a cynical lot here on gersnet:)
  17. That might be a way out. Fulham can afford to play hardball but I think SDM is banking on a last minute price reduction before Thursday night. Dangerous game if you ask me.
  18. [ Maybe he should have thought about there being more to life than money when he told us where to stick the contract offer. That's the point. Surely we have too much pride to go offering a way back to former under-achievers who are only looking to come back because their wife is Scottish. Unless their name is Gattuso:)
  19. Left-sided again, according to Evening Times. Any views on him, Pete?
  20. Not only that but he's left-sided, and we're already overloaded with them. Talk about being unbalanced!
  21. On the form v Shalke we won't even get past Kaunas. Now that really would be disaster. If we don't score first against teams I fear the worst.
  22. He took a couple of his usual poor ones in the last friendly but yesterday he played at centre back and to be fair he did not too bad, I thought.
  23. Nothing to do with the topic, but the colour of Shalke's strip (Royal Blue) is what ours should be. RFC's website called Shalke the Royal blues, and keeps calling us the 'Light' blues! Confusing.
  24. Agree mostly with Ian, and to the WS detractors, I say think back to not too long ago to the dark days of PLG. Who did we all want to come in as manager? That's right WS and Super Ally. I didn't hear too many advocating anyone else at the time. Fast forward to now and who could we get who would do better with this group of players? Is there a magic Dutch coach out there, Pete? The Shalke coach just had players like Asamoah and Rakatic.
  25. It also shows the flaw with this defensive set-up. Fine until we lose a goal. Still, we nearly saved it with Velicka's effort. He looks favourite now for one - maybe the only one - of the starting slots. And we play so deep because of our lack of pace that it's hard to turn defence into attack. With MCulloch and Dailly in mf no wonder we can't keep the ball.
