  1. He certainly looks like a tim and has a declared interest of a shareholding in the company of the dire but fair play to the man, he upheld the FTT ruling.
  2. Not a bad team, the select. Deans hoofing it over the bar again. His altimeter was always a bit suspect.
  3. Some notable celts: O'Neil, Larssen, McStay, McNeil, er, em, er - well, there must be some others but who have they trotted out to squeal about title stripping? Darren O'Dea. Oh dear God.. Speirs should be squirming He admits EBTs were legal at the time but they were used for an illegal purpose i.e. Saving tax . Jings.
  4. DK is not going to jail on the basis of events thus far. I'll let you know when I think he's at risk.
  5. Happy birthday to the great man.
  6. The "common sense" approach has an initial attraction (see my facetious post #42) but the question is "whose common sense?" The trick is to apply common sense to the interpretation of the statute, regulations and precedent. The "common sense" notion is akin to the application of Equity which English judges are quite keen on and most of the Supreme Court judges are English so the appeal might be starting under handicap.
  7. I see from the summary of the judgement that the learned judges have invoked a rarely used principal of the law of Scotland, namely the "common sense" rule.
  8. Shame to see an honourable club like the Wanderers drsgged down like this. I wonder how Nat Lofthouse their mighty centre forward of long ago would have dealt with Master Lennon.
  9. "Rangers chairman Dave King faces December 9 court date in Mike Ashley battle.. meaning he could spend Christmas in jail" according to DR. They are right. But only if DK turns up at Court and tells the Judge he's a corrupt old badger and he and his pal Ashley can take a running jump or something similar. At worst, if he's found to have breached the Injunction, he'll be fined but that's boring innit?
  10. He did. Most strikers do. He'd have got it back on if he'd been allowed the stay at Rangers. He didn't achieve much after his departure but his confidence would have been shattered by the manner of his waygoing.
  11. On 3 October Little General posted a list of players who scored 100 goals or more for Rangers. Here is the top ten from that list: Goals Appearances Jimmy Smith 382 411 Ally McCoist 355 581 Bob McPhail 287 465 Willie Thornton 248 410 Robert Hamilton 247 293 Jimmy Fleming 240 295 Willie Reid 226 262 Derek Johnstone 210 546 Ralph Brand 206 317 Alex Venters 205 407 Most of that is as expected, with good old Super in runner-up position but no Jim Forrest and no Kris Boyd. But have a look at the average/strike-rate and see what happens. Goals Appearances Average Strike Rate Jimmy Smith 382 411 0.92944039 1.075916 Jim Forrest 145 163 0.88957055 1.124138 Willie Reid 226 262 0.86259542 1.159292 Robert Hamilton 247 293 0.84300341 1.186235 Jimmy Fleming 240 295 0.81355932 1.229167 Max Murray 121 154 0.78571429 1.272727 George Henderson 161 223 0.72197309 1.385093 Billy Simpson 163 239 0.68200837 1.466258 Ralph Brand 206 317 0.64984227 1.538835 Kris Boyd 112 180 0.62222222 1.607143 Jimmy Smith is still out in front but Forrest rockets into second place and Boyd lumbers into tenth. Some surprises. The (by me )much maligned Maxie Murray is in this exalted company, also the respected but (by me) under-rated Billy Simpson. Willie Thornton and Bob McPhail don't make it. And what's this? Where's Super? He's twelfth after McPhail and just ahead of Thornton. Statistics - they tell you everything. Except of course the quality of the striker's inside men and the strength of the opposing defences and indeed the strength of his own defence to keep the ball up to him. Interesting, though. (The figures looked quite neat when I typed them but they don't read very easily on screen)
  12. Hurlock definitely looked the scariest but the man with cold fear on tap was Harry Davis. Behave youself and play the game, you're fine but don't try to clog the wee Prime Minister.
  13. Poor old Caesar. Just when he thought he was safe from Jimmy Millar out jumpling him, along came Forrest to run him ragged.
  14. We old codgers remember the 1964 final better than 1963 because in Dundee there was a high quality opposition which made for a better match. I remember the goals like yesterday. Kenny Cameron's was a screamer.
  15. I'm only surprised that he got the job in the first place.
  16. Never. Black was no tough guy. I don't want head bangers.
  17. Baxter and McMillan didn't get kicked much. Two reasons. One, they were helluva hard to get at. Two, Harry Davis was riding shotgun. I admire Warburton's philsophy. I have no qualifications to argue with his team selections but it is useful to have a tough guy around. A proper tough guy. Not a headcase.
  18. The Press won't be hard on Gibbons unless at some time in the future he signs for Rangers.
  19. Burchill - I rember him. The new Simon Donnelly, or somebody.
  20. I'm pretty much with you in all of that, BM, but it was the real Hibs and Mowbray has long gone. The plug ugly in charge is Stubbs.
