Pity !!! A rotten way to leave. I hoped he would have left being taken off with 15mins left and having scored. God bless you big guy. Real Rangers class!!!!
-
I guess we are all agreed on that then, let's hope Walter and Ally agree.
-
Maybe but Davie Cooper wasn't an over the hill, injury prone, not played in many years, loser, which we would be signing. No way would i want him at Ibrox as a player.
-
I suppose if he was so much better than Papac it would have been him that got the bullet. I agree though a waste of time and money for everyone.
-
Smith has sent him packing, saying we are well covered at left back and it is not one of our priorities.
-
Agree totally, i am not sure Adam is anywhere near international class yet. Hutton has definitely deserved it after his recent showings.
-
Agree with all about our own youth academy but i don't think that is the only way forward. I think we also need to have people in place who can spot talent in the less popular countries or clubs and bring them to Ibrox to be sold on for a profit. Herenveen must be one of the best examples of this, as they seem to sell one player on and pluck another jewel from the so said minor leagues. Jon dahl Tomasson, Klaas-jan Huntelaar, Samaras and now Alfonso Alves who will be sold on shortly for 10mill+. As for the much talked about Ajax youth system there is a flip side to the coin. Ajax youth players are all taught to play in the same system from a very young age. That is indeed great if three or four break through to the top team they can play together with a blindfold on. The flip side is if they have to buy a player in the youth lean years it is very difficult for a bought player to fit in to that system. Ajax have went through a barrowload of strikers over the last few years to no avail and in fact chose Markus Rosenberg over Alfonso Alves who both played for Malmo at the same time. They must be kicking themselves now. To get back to Rangers it is not really a secret that the scouting system at Rangers has been poor in the past and you can have Murray Park or the best Youth system in the world, but if you can not fill it with good players then it cannot produce good players.

Agreed Frankie i liked big Gordon as a player, and as a pundit he does try and be as neutral as possible. I didn't realise he wanted to manage a club so much. I think most clubs may find him too nice to be a manager, otherwise i would have thought he could get a start somewhere even if it was as an assistant manager.

New regular column - is it worthwhile? Mediawatch - the signing of Darcheville
pete replied to bmck's topic in Rangers Chat
Enjoyed it Barry you could make it the Media this week and cover the main stories of the week in short. My gripe with the media this week was with Scotsport. As someone else also stated they totally ignored the Naylor attack on Novo and made a meal out of Hutton and his ball-winning tackle on Naylor. The Scotsman's article by Tom English posted by Cammy was the best report on the old firm game i read this week. -
Seems Smith is looking to bring in Andy Todd of Blackburn. He has dropped down from the Blackburn first team. A 32 year old! I hope Smith is not going to strangle our youth set-up by bringing in too many older players.
-
He never really got a fighting chance due to his injury. I wish him all the best for the future, but not against Rangers.

Yep a good read. I do believe that when you have won the league or are so far in front it does psychologically affect you, even if if you think you are trying your best. Personally i don't read anything in to these games now as in how it will go next season. In August or end July we start from scratch, then we will see how all teams are shaping up. Apart from that it is always great to beat the unwashed.

Don't forget Rangers and Celtic worked with the SPL to try and f**k Sky and then scuppered the deal at the last moment. A bit like a keeper coming for a ball and getting stranded between wall and ship. Who can blame Sky for pulling the plug on Scottish football. We should have done our homework before things became public or went the whole road and started SPL tv. We cannot expect the same deal as the PL but to drop from 49mill to 8mill as then happened put a noose around our necks and only then the 75mill debt became extremely visible. Having a lions share of 49mill or 8mill is the difference of day and night. If we had kept the Sky deal, that, mixed with the almost guaranteed CL money would have made us on an equal with most of the PL teams, so i guess it was a case of us shooting ourselves in the foot. One positive point may be that Sky are not allowed a monopoly anymore, so Setanta are getting some PL games which may make Sky look at the SPL again. The whole problem lies also with UEFA's policies of making the rich clubs and countries richer and the poor clubs and countries poorer If UEFA keep up this policy then the chances of a team outside Spain, Italy, or England ever winning anything again are getting smaller all the time. If they want to keep more teams from every country then scrap seeding them so as the smaller teams also get a chance. If you look at our Euro presence in the seventies and eighties we were up in the premier division although probably at the bottom of the league. Now we are in the third division and not even near the top. I feel if Uefa keep this system people will become bored watching the CL as i am now and they will be left with a financial nightmare once the TV channels desert them. Maybe then we can get an even playing field.

I don't believe that! Great players from the old days would adapt to still be the best in the world today. Yes they would have to be fitter now as they were but they would adapt to that. Even today Pele, Cruijff, Maraddona, Best would be superstars. Sorry but the guy's who put Gazza in front of Johan Cruijff in their all time greatest must have never seen Cruijff. Gazza could not have laced his boots. In fact putting Gazza in the top 50 of all time greats is being very kind to him imo

Don't want a Liverpool carthorse who only comes on to take a penalty. If Fowler is the best we can get then let Super Ally get his boots back on. Surely giving Lennon a chance is better than a guy who has played a handfull of games in the last three years. I would be devastated if Fowler was signed instead of giving our youth a chance.
-
We'll probably end up with Gordon Smith.
-
I can pick out a few positives. Man City getting 50 mill next year. Sunderland 20mill Sheff UTD 20mill. Three teams that won't be fighting us for the Bosmans.

Signed for Rennes so that is one name we can strike off our list of players linked to us. We are looking for a Petter class of player anyway.
-
Rumours are he is going to play in Australia. Quatar is another good guess i would say.
-
To be honest i think it will be difficult to get him. I think AZ will probably want to keep him, as strikers who scores 20+ a season are few and far between. If they sell i think they will want stupid money for him. The chairman of Az is super rich and puts his money where his mouth is unlike some we know. There is talk of AZ going for Alves of Herenveen so that may open a door, although i would love Rangers to go for Alves as he is a better allround player than Koeverman. I haven't read anything recently except the pieces in the Scottish papers. If i read anything or hear anything in the Dutch press then the Gersnet will be the first to know.
-
Funny i thought that earlier today. What an end to the competition. with 5 mins left there were still 3 teams in the race. AZ blew it,they started favourites but froze. This was a Dutch helicopter Sunday except the trophy was at the AZ game and there were two replica's at the other two games. PSV got handed a replica.

Played his last game for the Hague today and said if he can find a prof club he will play at least another year. Could he do any worse than what we have. I wouldn't mind him as a squad player He is still good for an hour which would help bring Lennon on. If we mixed the playing time with Lennon and Mols it would help bring Lennon on slowly. I always say you should not look back though so i guess it is against my own principles.
