GvB didn’t deserve the sack IMO. He wasn’t given funds to rebuild after we sold players. Incredibly though the board did give funds to the rookie Beale3 points

You take their record in full, or full seasons; you don't just pick a random number to suite your argument. Did you know Warburton is better than Guardiola? Warburton's last 5 games - W2, D1, L2 Guardiola's last 5 games - 0W, 0D, 5L. Bring him home.3 points

Souttar, Jefte, Raskin, Hagi, Cerny I’d be happy to keep. Butland, Sterling, Barron, Diomande, I don’t mind if they stay but meh if they go. Tav, Propper, Ridvan, mcCausland, Lawrence, Dessers, Danilo, Igamane, Bajrami, Dowell I’d be happy to see leave. Anybody I’ve missed is because I can’t even think of them as I’m typing this so I guess I’m not that bothered about keeping. But to those saying this is worst team in X years that’s just frustration as the football under Beale just last year was much much worse than this lot, and then you’re also forgetting the Pedro monstrosity when we lost in Luxembourg and of course the side that couldn’t win the Championship under Super Ally. That’s all within the last 10 years. It might be 1 top flight title in 14 years but we weren’t in the top flight for 4 years and we won the title in the only division we were allowed to play in during 3 of 4 years so a bit of balance would be nice. The board gave upon this title last summer to get the books back in order. Clement got 3 instructions in the summer - take £10M off the wage bill, reduce the age of the squad, bring in players we can sell for profit. First 2 are ticked off and 3rd possible but not nailed on. Having done what was asked I don’t see him getting sacked. I’m fairly numb about league results as the title was gone in July so perhaps that’s why I’m not as angry as others with the current situation.2 points

In hindsight, I'd agree with this. I'd also say he didn't get the credit he deserved for getting us to the EL final. When you look at the teams we defeated to get there, it was an absolute incredible achievement. I'd say that even some Rangers fans play this down for some reason. Maybe it's because we lost to the "weakest" team we faced in the later stages of the competition. We should have won the EL - if we had a fit striker (either Roofe or Morelos), we'd have won it IMO.2 points

Cammy, yes it is like that. Fan impatience and in recent years, unrealistic expectation levels, have contributed to bad decision making at board level. That isn't to give the board a free pass, far from it. They should have had the savvy and courage to do the necessary wrt real austerity and sorting our finances out. ----------------- Reminds me of kids chucking their toys out the pram and demanding new ones when their single parent is holding down 3 jobs, just to put food on the table. Then the kid tells the single parent that it is all their fault for buying new toys instead of putting food in the table.2 points

And replace him with who? They won’t sack him until a replacement has been identified who wont get any more out these players. shout out all you like about the manager but the players we’ve got ain’t good enough2 points

We are all in agreement Dessers isn't good enough ON HIS OWN, maybe he needs a strike partner. Even still, if you remove him and his 10 goals he is replaced by someone else and that somene could possibly have scored 20 goals.2 points

Were they not 13 ahead by October in O’Neil’s second season or is that a distorted nightmare memory? Your point is valid, though. The League has been gone for some time. Correct as is the rest of your summary. Hagi can take a shot at goal and is generally more forward going than Diomande. Hagi, Barron and one of the other two might be the best pick. Could do with a proper destroyer. Actually two. One in midfield and one in defence.2 points

The Jefte / Ridvan sub when chasing the game was utterly bizarre. Cerney only player who got pass marks in my humble opinion.2 points

A proper appraisal of Sir David Murray's tenure of Rangers is a thread in its own right, and probably one that stretches for a lot of pages. On Souness, whatever views people hold of his departure, and it was badly handled by all concerned with the exception of Murray, ironically, he must be seen as one of the most important figures in the club's history. The magnitude of his influence on Rangers, and all of Scottish football, is almost difficult to comprehend today. The ripples from some of the boulders he threw are still being felt today I'd argue. There remains much to admire about Souness, his charity work is exceptional, he's always positive about Rangers, when it's not always fashionable to be so, his punditry can be entertaining too. His insights into the appointment of Clement are interesting. His argument for Lampard isn't without merit and it's interesting to hear his views on how the current manager is doing. Souness has knowledge and experience that none of us possess, but that alone doesn't mean he's always right. I've always felt Gordon Smith is one of those ex-players who people constantly over-estimate his ability simply because he's half way articulate. A bit like Pat Nevin, broadcasters swoon over him because he's capable of throwing in a few big words, and assume this must equal intelligence and insight. In actual fact Smith (and Nevin) have consistently shown themselves to make poor decisions, lack insight and struggle when given real power. That said he can be entertaining and enjoyable to listen to some of his stories.2 points

No, no - I've only responded to your random 23 games point. Here's the last 23 games from our last few managers: Warburton - 12W, 5D, 6L Clement - 12W, 5D, 6L Gerrard - 13W, 5D, 5L Beale - 13W, 3D, 7L GvB - 11W, 4D, 8L Caixhinha - 13W, 3D, 7L What does this random nonsense tell us? GvB was the worst because he lost 8 of his last 23? Or that Caixhinha was the best because he won the most? Nonsense. You cannot take a random number of games to suite your argument. My rant is over. Now, to take the rest of your post: no, I'm not happy. I've made several posts, backed up by my beloved xG, saying how poor we are at creating chances. I said it's around what Beale was achieving (even worse than, maybe? I can't recall). I would be quite happy to see him sacked. My other point elsewhere (about how I couldn't see him getting sacked) was just a judgement based on how he fits in with the off-field project and our financial situation. It's not that I want it, it's just what I think based on the circumstances. The rebuild has barely started. We've not built anything yet. Hopefully the new CEO will have some ideas on the manager's position and everything else.1 point

This is patently untrue. Warburton's ppg was 1.79 in his final season, while Clement is sitting at 2.00 ppg this season. It's interesting that you missed out Beale (1.71) who was worse than Warburton in his final season.1 point

Souttar still has the odd brain fart and poor game in him (he was very poor yesterday IMO). As you say the entire Dessers situation is a conundrum. He scores goals - top scorer last season and top scorer this season. Clement appeared to be happy going into this season with Dessers as his only fit striker. Yet we can all see he isn't good enough. We rely on him to get us goals with little or no support and no one to share the burden yet we get on Dessers back when it doesn't happen.1 point

Just a quick point in recruitment, if the scouts that identified and recommended the likes of Davies and Matondo are still at the club and involved in recruitment then we will have the same recruitment problems regardless of who is DOF or 1st team manager.1 point

Regardless of the fees paid for this squad they were never going to challenge for the title this year. Maybe a cup, a decent run in europe and a step in the right direction was a more realistic ask. There was just too much damage done by previous managers/board memebers to repair in one transfer window. Tbh honest I would imagine we will have more than one other dissapointment this season.1 point

I think he's played out of position. He's not a #10, he's just filling in. He's more of a box-to-box player like Barron. Which doesn't actually contradict your argument when we picked up Barron for the price of a packet of space invaders.1 point

Diomande is giving Dessers a run for biggest waste of 4.5 million in years.1 point

Both have the same number of goals (1) and assists (1) coming off the bench. Dessers did it in only one game. That's an opinion, fair enough. I, personally, think Danilo is good enough, if he can keep fit. I have no idea if he can, though. The evidence is against it.1 point

I didn't say he was good enough. I just posted some stats showing that Danilo has better numbers than Dessers. He didn't score today but got an assist, and did much more on every count than Dessers. We were much better as a team with Danilo. The trouble is he's only played 81 minutes, as you pointed out.1 point
-
It was the introduction of Hagi in the second half which I thought improved us. We had someone who always wanted the ball, drove forward and tried to link up through the middle and out wide. Diomande didnt do that first half. Dessers first half was anonymous. Danilo at least give us movement up front which helped but he lacks match sharpness at the moment. Whether he’s the answer remains to be seen1 point
-
Those stats don't score goals or get you points, you need to put the ball in the net and at the moment, Dessers is the only one of those 3 who scores on a semi-regular basis. Playing 1 up top isn't working no matter if its Dessers, Danilo or Igamane. 3 times in first half we fired a ball into the box from the left and Dessers was the only Rangers player in the box. Dundee United had 5 players. We need to try something different- play two up top. It can't be any worse.1 point

He played in 3 separate World Cups, and, interestingly, in Argentina he missed the debacles with Peru and Iran, but played when we beat the second best side in the World, Holland. Just coincidence I'm sure. He captained the best club side in Europe, arguably the world, won 3 European Cups, 5 English League titles and 2 Scottish League titles and played helped Sampdoria win the first trophy in their entire history. For four years running he was named in the PFA Team Of The Year and also named in the PFA Team Of the Century 20 years after he retired. For 4 or 5 seasons Souness would have been a first choice for any club, and any country, in the world. I don't know what your definition of 'World class' is but if Souness doesn't qualify for it then I don't know who does.1 point

Some snippets from today's Q&A with Graeme Souness which was hosted by Gordon Smith. Souness explained his part in the recruitment of the new manager and he interviewed all candidates. As was reported at the time, his preferred candidate was Frank Lampard. He explained why it was down to Lampard's very good relationship with Chelsea & Man City, his knowledge of their Youth set-ups / players and his ability to bring players from both those clubs on loan given our limited budget. He did go on to say that he was impressed with Clement during the interview and believes Clement is doing as best as can be expected given the players at his disposal. He also sticks by his comment that we need better players. At that point Gordon Smith said that he agrees and what is required is fresh income. He insisted that there was an interest in buying Rangers and a meeting was set up for a deal to be completed only for the Rangers board to pull the plug. Both said that there remains interest in Rangers but with the shareholdings being held by many different people, it's difficult to get them all to agree to a sale. Both agreed that without the board selling the club on, we'll not move forward. It was an excellent day and Souness & Smith spoke really well. Souness said Gough was his best signing but mentioned Butcher, Wilkins as well. Said Derek Ferguson was an absolute talent as was Durrant. He also rated Terry Hurlock and Ian Ferguson. Said the 2 mistakes he made at Rangers were ; letting Davie Cooper leave for Motherwell and accepting the Liverpool role. He said he should have moved "upstairs" and let Walter take over. As I said it was an excellent day and great to be in the company of Rangers people and Rangers royalty.1 point
