  1. The longest serving manager in the Scottish top flight is Derek McInness, he's been in his post for 3 years and 4 days. He's currently the only manager who has served more than 3 years in their job. Indeed only 2 managers, McInness and Robinson at St Mirren, have been in their jobs for more than 2 years, every other manager has spent less than 2 years in their job. The desire for instant success isn't just reserved for Rangers supporters. Willie Waddell never won a league title as Rangers manager, his successor, Jock Wallace, took 3 seasons to win his first. We live in different times now, Rangers managers were given time back then, a chance to build something, to fail, but learn and come back stronger. We gave Gerrard time, he made progress, but came up short twice, but we stuck by him and it paid off. As frustrating as last night, and many times this season, have been, I'm not convinced the answer is to rip it up and start again. At times we've been brilliant this season, at times we've been dire. Our domestic away form is very poor, unacceptably poor, we should be much closer to Celtic than we are. The manager deserves criticism for that. Personally, I'm giving him this season, despite results. I do think he's building something, I do think the basis of a good side is there. The thought of firing Clement, and all his backroom team, and then appointing someone else to manage players he didn't sign and with a very limited budget to change that depresses me. We've tried that already.

  2. This time last year Clement was doing fine. This season he has not done very well at all. Is that him or the material at his disposal? Too many players are mentally weak. There is not one thrawn bugger in the entire squad and you need two on the field. I can’t remember the last such. Ryan Jack was the nearest. No new manager is going to do any better . He’ll face the same problem until better players are found so sack him and where does the payoff money come from? Others will have to go too because a new man will want his own hangers on then there’s the question of compensation to whichever club the new chap is poached from. Easy, some will say. There are managers out of work. Get one of them. But they’re out of work for a reason. They’re duffers, in which case we don’t want them or they choose to be idle pending a lucrative vacancy which rules out Rangers. Nobody is accepting or celebrating second best just because they accept reality.

  4. The players we have aren't good enough, is that up for debate? They can beat any Scottish side on their day, but they lack consistency and experience, on top of that the squad isn't deep enough. Whoever we bring in, and we need to be realistic about who that will be as our budget will be decreased further by paying off Clement and his backroom team, but whoever that is might get a bounce, might change our tactics a bit, make us harder to score against, but they're not taking this squad and going on a 20 match winning streak. When Paul Le Guen was sacked and Walter returned he signed Andy Webster, Davie Weir, Ugo Ehiogu and Kevin Thomson in the January window. The equivalent isn't happening in this window unless someone gives us £15 million for Igamane. We went 11 games unbeaten after Walter was reappointed, won the Scottish Cup, but we didn't win the league the following season either, despite us signing an almost entirely new side. We're not able to attract anyone of the calibre of Walter Smith currently. So while I understand the concept of a coach/DoF relationship, in reality a new manager will want some new players, I mean I imagine our current manager wants some new players.

  5. I don’t think now is the time to dispense with PC although I think there may well be a review of his position at the end of the season. Reading through this forum and others what concerns me most is the amount of Rangers supporters who advocate sacking PC without offering a name as his successor. As I said in another post, I think Clement is the symptom not the cause of what is wrong at Rangers

  6. We are playing 9 games in January with a threadbare squad. Not surprised we have guys like Jefte and Yilmaz(who is never fit at the best of times tbh) blowing out of their backsides. We played 8 games in December. 17 games in 2 months. We played 5 games in November and 6 in October.

  7. Omnishambles FC Whichever direction you look it is a long road to nowhere. In 'normal' circumstances Clement would have struggled to still be in a job. But the most important aspect of becoming competitive again is financial. As we reduce the wage bill and try and set up a functional player trading model, inconsistent results and performances made a fallow season, probable. It may reach a point where Clement has to be taken out of the firing line. ST renewal time or a lot sooner if pressure keeps building and the players aren't responding. The CEO needs to have this sit down with the press sooner rather than later and spell out how he sees the immediate way ahead. He also needs to spell out the financial situation and it's implications on decisions because too many of our fans think that we can keep spending money we don't have. In the medium term, maybe the support will end up getting more than they bargained for when it comes to new owners. We Deserve Better was a slogan back in the day. If there isn't more consideration given to our financial situation then the next might be You Deserve all that is coming your Way.

  8. Still can’t believe some of his subs last night. Bringing on Matondo at half time was just dumb. Guy offers nothing and I’d gladly never see him again. Then his Pedro-esque throw attacking subs at the game and hope something happens.. bleh.

  9. In my view Clement is the symptom not the cause of where we are just now. Until we get changes upstairs to allow new investment it doesn’t matter who the manager is. But that will mean boardroom changes & maybe existing shareholders selling up. We need to get away from building a team of bosmans and low cost bargains who are too often found wanting.

  10. On one side you have a significant percentage of the fanbase who don't seem to comprehend how important it is to sort our finances (Even taking into consideration an immediate drop off in match day revenue). However, ST renewals will have to be taken into account. On the other side, Clement isn't very good at press conferences. Has tried to tell the fanbase how it is but they aren't interested and now desperately wants the CEO to go public with the back story/context. Is it me or has Clement's English language skills got worse over his time at Ibrox? With or without Clement the road is long and arduous. - how much would it cost to bin the manager (and staff)? - what level of new manager could we attract given circumstances ? Cost? - what demands would new manager have so to have chance of competing? - WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? - how long would new manager get ?

  11. I swing between both answers. On the one hand we can't keep changing managers and expecting to develop consistency. On the other hand, results aren't good enough and fan sentiment seems to have got to the point of no return.

  12. Dessers isn't the only problem, of course not, but his high wages to minutes played, low resale value, poor overall performance within the system we play, is still an issue that can be worked on in the short term

  14. Push may come to shove, but it's a bit of a red herring, for me. There are wider financial causes of our problems, with hints of plans in place to solve them. The squad has been dismantled, with more still to come, and isn't good enough. I'm content to let Koppen cook over the next couple of windows. I had already written off the season as a rebuild; these dropped points don't change that.

  15. I think I'm probably in the minority here but I'd keep Clement, not spend a penny in Jan and try and clear out as many of the players as possible this year. Get the wage bill to a level where we can bring in a new manager and offer them some choice in the transfer market. We don't have a chance with this league, it's long gone. Better to prepare ourselves for the future. We also somehow need to get an experienced footballing person in at board level. I don't really know who that would be, honestly, but it's clear the board need significant help in making the correct choices. My heart says someone like Alex Ferguson, I doubt he would take it though and in reality my brain says that a manager may not actually be the right person for the job. There needs to be a person who understands both the running of the club and the footballing side of it at board level. Someone with current knowledge of the game and the financial aspects. It's a mess that we've somehow managed to make worse and worse. The board were fucking mental giving clement that extension, but I think they knew we were in for a mess and this was their way of telling the support that there is a project going on and nothing will get in its way. The project is to achieve financial stability no matter what, presumably.

  16. I'm for keeping Big Phil and battling through this dire period. I have heard some say they see no progression. I see progression in Igamane who is still learning. I see progression in Raskin who is playing the best football since he pulled on a Rangers jersey. I seen Nsiala play his first full game for us, and in my opinion did fine. I see progression in Jefte who I thought was awful at first, now becoming a better player. I have seen young Barron progress and think he would have continued to do so had Raskin not rightfully taken his place. We are inconsistant, not bad. We gave Spurs a hell of a game. We would have held the cup if not for the men in black. We have beaten septic. I see many positives, but have also endured some dire games. Consistancy in the staff and players, with a few additions will make us a better team, not another manager. My tupence worth.

  17. Absolutely no chance he’d take the Rangers job. First question he’d ask would be what he was getting to spend on new players. Face facts, if Clement goes we’re looking at a McInnes level of manager ….😩

  20. The squad isn't good enough, no, but I think there are some good assets there. We're in the beginning of a rebuild so it's not finished. People keep talking about a rebuild as if what we did in the summer is the extent of it. We will be adding to the squad and removing the unwanted players during future windows. I'm not saying managers should have no say; they need to be working with the recruitment department. The Walter model is dated - it was dated during his second spell. (It wasn't a great Celtic team he had to beat, iirc.) I was reading about Liverpool's data analytics team again recently. When Rodgers was the manager, the recruitment team wanted to sign Firmino, Rodgers wanted Benteke (they suggested Lukaku instead but Rodgers wanted Benteke... ). They bought both as a compromise but Rodgers wouldn't use Firmino as the analysis suggested - Rodgers had him out wide. Rodgers was eventually sacked. They concluded that the manager was hampering the recruitment team, so they moved for a coach that would be on board with their model. Klopp was on board. Liverpool's recruitment model was planned 15 years ago - and they were late to party. The fact we're still having debates about this is staggering to me. It's probably symptomatic of the problems facing Scottish football as a whole. We've been left behind. I was hopeful we were moving forward when we appointed a DoF, but we've just dabbled. They've not been given the remit they need to work properly. You're correct we don't have the money, but that's all the more reason to have a proper recruitment model. We can't afford to rebuild with every managerial appointment. I understand your point was merely that a new manager will want new additions. Fair enough, yes, but they should be working with the recruitment department, not dictating who stays and who goes. An old-school manager is not for us.

  21. As @Rousseau said, this isn't about rinse and repeat, it's about a manager / coach who'll get better out of the players at their disposal. Is Clement getting the best out of them? The answer is a resounding no. Has he had sufficient time to get better out them, in my opinion, the answer is yes. We are regressing rather than improving. The biggest single source of income is from the fans (outwith player trading if we every get that right - season tickets, merchandise, match day experience, hospitality etc), and the only tool the fans have to show their displeasure or force change is to withhold their hard earned cash. If the board want to gamble that the fans will continue to blindly show loyalty, then good luck to them. As @compo says, the majority of fans just want a winning team on the pitch. End of story. No matter who publically tells them thats not posssible, rightly or wrongly, they don't care. Sunday will be interesting - the official attendance will be +40K, but bums on seats will be a lot less than that. Results continue to worsen so will attendances which will have an impact on income. Come ST renewals, depending on what transpires between now and March / April time, it could turn out to be catastrophic for the board. They'll just have to rely on the 10000 ST waiting list.

  28. Question marks over Clement, yes. Bigger question marks over our finances? If we want to become consistently competitive again like the good old days (a generation ago) then we have to sort out the finances and the way we do business. Bumping managers and squad overhauls with money we don't have, .... haven't been working well for us. Lets see what the CEO has to say.

  30. We need to encourage him to move on as soon as possible. That means near zero time on the pitch during the transfer window. If we are stuck with him after the window slams shut then he will get on and contribute a few inexplicable goals.

  32. The harsh reality is that there are only 5 or 6 of the current squad worth keeping. We can’t get rid off the rest( mostly the high earners) because of the contracts given to them by Beale & Wilson. Until these players are gone & replaced (hopefully with better ones) then I don’t think we’ll see much progress in the short term regardless of who the manager is

  33. Thats as may be, but he's our top scorer and top scorer in the league in 2024. Igamane, whilst being good lately was posted missing last night and Danilo wasn't much better. As for wage thief's, you can a few others to that list, including the manager.

  34. Had an epiphany last night. Why should I, or others care what's happening at our club when it's clear nobody at the club does? I wasn't going to go back until Clement was gone, but going to go on Sunday. Toxic atmosphere, fans arguing / fighting with each other, dross off and on the pitch, wouldn't miss it for the world. They say that in football that you get what you deserve. Whilst that's not always true, it certainly is regarding Rangers at the moment.

  35. Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with this one. Another shambolic performance from us at Dens Park. It's like we've completely forgotten how to play football. The referee? Don't even get me started. Some of those decisions were scandalous, but let's be honest, we didn't exactly cover ourselves in glory either. Individual errors plagued us all night. It was like watching a team of strangers out there, nobody seemed to know what they were supposed to be doing. And the tactics? Forget about it. PC doesn't have a clue what he's doing. One minute we're beating Celtic, the next we're getting carved open by Dundee & Hibs. It's infuriating our away form is shocking despite the backing the fans give them on away games. We've got a squad full of talented players, but they're being completely mismanaged. Some of them are playing out of position, others aren't being used at all. It's like watching a jigsaw puzzle being put together by a toddler. And to top it all off, PC has come out and publicly said the board will 200% be with him, It's clear they're completely out of touch with the reality of the situation. They simply don't understand what this club is about. We, the fans, want to see attacking, dominant football. We want to see a team that reflects the proud history of Rangers. Instead, we're watching a shadow of our former selves. This isn't good enough. This isn't Rangers. We need to see a drastic improvement, and fast. This season is lost can we even recover and improve for the start of next season makes me feel uncomfortable, to say the least.

  36. It really doesn't change anything. It's just another abysmal away result, league is over anyway, there was no money on the line, it doesn't matter. It's the 10th of Jan and not a snifter of a signing, and I will be stunned to see anything significant happen. We'll see some cover coming for injuries, but nothing to get excited about. As for Clement, he's obviously been backed, he knows it and they'll carry on with him for at least this season and next. That's my feeling. On a personal note, I don't believe Clement and the board's project will be successful from a performance perspective. Success at the moment looks like it's only about cutting the wage bill in order to operate as a going concern. That's the harsh reality. The club is on it's knees. Would a new manager change things? Other than a new manager bounce, I don't think so. So as much as it pains me to say it, I prefer to stick with what we've got and hope I'm wrong about the board and Clement's little story.

  40. When we beat Ross County 3-0 away then Killie 6-0 at home we started with Igamane and Danilo up front and looked as if we had turned a corner as far as as playing against teams that sit in . He changed to more a defensive shape against Spurs and the filth cup final , no problem there as they both came at us. He reverted to starting Igamane and Danillo against Dundee and got the win at home and again never started Danilo for the filth demolition game. It has all gone wrong in the last four away games with him starting Igamane up front on his own . Why would he do this given the results he had starting Igamane and Danilo together ?

  42. No, Dessers ain't the problem. Most strikers haven't been the problem. Their scoring rates and stats are and were similar to most in Rangers's history. Only that we are hell-bend on expecting them to be the finished jack-of-all-trades striker like Ibrahimovic, Messi, or the like, hitting the goal with ever other shot, scoring 30+ per season. We changed a running system to this modern crab and now try to blame the players for not doing it to perfection in a league where it is doomed to fail time and again. Blaming single players just means that people trust the system more than the ability of the players ... which is, IMHO, fundamentally wrong. (And this does not mean that I think that any player who receives criticism isn't worth it.)

  43. There is no doubt that we have a team that can play good attacking football when the opposition "wants to play football". Be it in Europe or in Scotland. In the latter, however, only very few clubs do it, but that is where we have to do our homework. Regardless of injuries (and they have been horrendous over the years) and ridiculous refereeing decisions and performances, we have not managed to break down these Scottish walls for the best part of a decade. And ultimately, this is the point where the blame must be placed on every single coach since Warburton. Dundee were holed up, our three strikers faced two defenders each, the second row with ONE nominal attacker is useless against two or three Dundee players, the two 6s passed to the centre-halfs and that's it. We have seen it like this since Warburton. So the penny has to drop at some point ... the penny that should be the size of Fort Knox by now. You have up to six attackers on the bench each week, some are subbed on a 1 for 1 basis, others go on after 75+ mins with little effect. Week in and week out. It is unacceptable management and must come to an end. We handed the Scum a free reign at every trophy since 2012, and some may blame Murray for the initial fall. But since our return, we were able to built teams that challenged them for titles, yet imploded mainly down to the above.
