  1. Should only get one vote, then in the future when someone says 'Always wanted such and such" we can consult the vote and see if they're lying bastards imo.

  4. Interesting that he has given the board and the new SD a warning around timescales a few times. He is really stressing a sense of urgency around getting ready for the CL qualifiers. Glad someone has finally twigged that timescales are tight and moving quickly is important.

  5. I reckon Ancelotti has already got it, as per Spanish reports.

  10. That seems to be the case, but I don't understand why it should.

  11. I'd imagine the pressure of being Real Madrid assistant manager would be quite intense as the coverage in Spain is 10 times what it is here. He's presumably had to deal with players with the biggest egos, and got involved with tactics at games at the highest level of world football. How that would translate to Scotland is definitely a risk, but there's a lot of positives about this guy.

  12. "I'm probably Scottish....." Ancelotti will probably speak better English than Ferguson.

  17. Especially right now when we have one of the biggest Rangers men in the dugout, and he's utterly shite. Let's no beat about the bush. Can't work out how to beat Scottish teams either.

  18. Yes. He eventually won the league, bless him, in propitious circumstances, failed to take advantage of that in the following season, left suddenly and failed in Brum and Saudi. Rangers need somebody who has been round the track, can command the players, get the team to a league championship and consolidate on success. When that’s been done, bring in a maestro. Who that manager is I do not have a clue.

  19. Of course we don't but the lad certainly seems to be knowledgeable and hard-working going by his coaching career so far. Yes, we need more than those two traits if we're to become successful again but as much we should be wary of any possible nepotism (or indeed cronyism), neither should certain associations automatically rule people out. FWIW, I'd much rather have a more experienced new manager - one who has demonstrated they can win things on a regular basis - but Clement's CV reflected that to a degree and that went pear shaped rather quickly. In any event I can't affect the outcome so I'm just hoping whoever we appoint hits the ground running.

  20. Not a dig, but I reckon the question is who would you 'prefer' to be manager rather than 'like' to be manager with the current rumours and options. I think I'll put Ancelotti and Gerrard as 1 & 2. I'd say they are more likely to draw a better standard of player and Gerrard does know what it takes to win the league. Edwards, Martin and O'Neil are a nightmare for me.

  21. Erm.. Stevie G had to learn here after just being youth coach at L'pool.. A much bigger gamble I would have thought.

  22. Not a dig at you buster, but I see many hoping for Muscat. I cant really understand why. I admit I have never seen any of his teams play or looked into his playing or recruitment styles. But winning J-League doesn't really appeal to me as a great success, and the Chinese league is probably fixed to control betting markets.

  23. The board don't get the option of multiple choice, neither should the poll IMO None on the list for me Muscat

  24. I see the old 'we need someone with connections to Rangers/bring back everyone ever' attitudes are still prevalent. All a bit parochial.

  25. I don't know enough about most of the candidates to have a worthwhile opinion. I don't want Gerrard back and don't want Martin. As for Ancelotti, who knows how he'll do!? As always, we'll just have to trust those in charge of the appointment and hope for the best.

  26. In this type of case you just don't know how he would react to the pressure of being the main man, opposed to an assistant. Because he has yet to do it. For a first try, Rangers in our current circumstances is like diving in at the deep end. When Gerrard was appointed, we had a fairly good idea that he could cope with the pressure and that what he had done in the game (on his own) commanded the respect of everyone, players included. He was able to fill in the coaching/tactical gaps with his staff. Someone who comes with the coaching credentials is great but any gaps on the ability to command respect and take overall responsibility would be a problem that isn't so easy to solve. Regardless, interesting to see how the club are thinking.

  27. I've voted for him but would Davide Ancelotti have got the job at Madrid without his old fella? Doubtful. The others: - Martin is tainted by his time as a player. - Gerrard: Not sure going back to old managers is necessarily the best idea. Though he would be my second choice - Rohl/Edwards - dont really know much about them - O'Neil: meh

  28. Looks legit if Fab is going with it. Difficult to weigh it all up without knowing who else is on the short list. Ancelotti, a guy who has a famous dad but has never played the game, nor operated without his Dad looking over him would be a huge risk for not being able to handle the pressure that is Rangers.

  30. Memories of Souness spring to mind ... with Smith at this side. We do need, IMHO, someone (assistant/coach/etc.) with a Rangers pedigree and the ability to punch the values into the players' mind.

  31. Bring back home kits that lasted three/four seasons imo, just change the away and third annually like it used to be.

  32. Walter Smith had no real managerial experience before taking the reigns here. A coach at Dundee United and assistant to Graeme Souness. People might hit back and say aye but he learned under a great manager in Jim McLean etc, then I need only point to who Davide has been learning under. And then to those that say but Davide never played football competitively - do you reckon he has to? Walter's career as a player wasn't long, Alex Ferguson was effectively told he was pish and retired to be a coach.

  37. If it is Ancelotti Jr then it may go down the same road as Gio and Clement where we are good in Europe but not the strongest domestically. He is likely to know the Continental game well and play that type of football but have no clue about high punting, rough tackling trips away to Kilmarnock and the likes. There has always been a view someone who supports and knows the club or league should be involved. But getting the right man to do this is not easy and it doesnt always have to be a Scot. I didnt / havent seen much from Alex Rae or currently Ferguson, Dodds, McCann or McGregor. Perhaps someone like Amoruso would fit the bill.
