  1. Of course, preferably a permanent position in the foundations of Ibrox.
  2. Lenin never forgot to pander to the masses he otherwise despised and neither should we.
  3. Why would that be the case. Are the current board the only people in the world who understand who's who and what's what? Would you not suppose the people replacing them might even have a chance of knowing a little more of who and what than the present incumbents. Yours is the view that fears change and assures inertia, what we need is not only change but aggressive and purposeful change. Change not just because we're afraid we might need it but change because we actually want it and the improvements it will bring. If Whyte is what he appears to be then you can be damn sure change is the wand he's about to wave. In his business he understands the importance of change and the sheer necessity of it when addressing ailing, dysfunctional businesses, which of course is what Rangers is today.
  4. Well done Mr Diouff, nice touch. It's been a pleasure. Rangers has room for everyone.
  5. Surely things would improve if, say, twenty or so (they could be randomly selected for fairness) BBC employees were simply lined up on the pitch and shot during the half time break one Saturday. The "don't be like Nicky Campbell" message would be clearly put across, with the added bonus of a net saving to the licence fee payers. Or should we wait and see how 5Live responds to Rangers first?
  6. On the contrary, for what needs to be achieved at rangers and in most businesses going through a change of ownership, a rapid and substantial change of faces is exactly what is required to not only manage change but to assure it.
  7. That's another symptom of the problem. We've substituted emotion for knowledge. The currency of judgement is now whether we 'like' someone like Campbell, when it would be entirely more appropriate to think whether we admire or respect them. The obsession with personal emotion is weak, shallow and ultimately pointless ... but it does allow people like Campbell to assume positions of influence out of all proportion to their abilities.
  8. Plans for Sunday? Trying to get through it and hoping to look back on it with pleasure. Way too nervous to ever think of actually enjoying it, I've never been able to be that kind of supporter, unfortunately.
  9. Nicky Campbell is EXACTLY typical of the kind of self-perpetuating clique that has assumed control of British public opinion. A mixture of coy, self-effacing presentation and toe-curlingly naive political opinion. The combination of low intellectual ability and the outrageous power of a broadcasting microphone is hugely dangerous and inevitably damaging on a wide front. These people long ago stopped simply reporting the news. They now interpret and regurgitate the news in whatever form they believe we should receive it. We are universally offered opinion, not news, apparently saving us any requirement to think for ourselves. The arrogance of this fundamental left-wing perspective is as staggering to me as it is unacceptable. Personal freedom was essentially extinguished with the madness of the 1960's and for most no longer exists in this country. Instead, the system produces supercilious bastards like Nicky Campbell to lead us by the nose and tell us what to think. I hope Nicky Campbell gets sacked for this. He deserves to. But someone EXACTLY like him will take his place and spout the same opinionated drivel every single day. Which, I hope you will agree, is hugely depressing.
  10. I'd be really disappointed if, after finally acquiring the club, due time wasn't allocated to deciding what needed to be done, costing and prioritising those requirements and consolidating the lot into a coherent business plan. You can do some of this from the outside but you really need to be IN the management seat to do it properly. It wouldn't phase me if he turned round and said it would take another three months to present a fully considered plan. At least I might be inclined to believe it had been thought through.
  11. I think it's important to enjoy the emotion of the moment, otherwise what are we in this for. In this case that means acknowledging what Walter Smith has undoubtedly achieved for us, the club, as well as himself and his family. He should rightly be a proud man and we should feel proud of him. However, the linear nature of time means we only ever get one chance to address a given situation. Walter Smith has done amazingly well in his return to Rangers, considering the financial plight of the club, but that doesn't necessarily mean no one else could also have been successful. I don't intend to cast doubt on Walter's appointment and certainly not regret but it's being presented as if Murray only had one choice and only Murray could have made that choice, which is clearly wrong. Rangers had wonderful managers before Murray and will have to find successful managers long after Murray is but a distant memory. Neither would it be right to allow emotions to airbrush some of the problems with Walter's style of management. Walter is no football God, he makes mistakes too and some of the stuff offered up has been hard to watch. What we can do is look at what he has achieved with his mix of strengths and weaknesses, shrewd calls and poor judgements. Above all we can look at his results and they are indisputable. Judged at the point of ultimate test, at the end of his tenure, Walter was a very good appointment. But please, don't use Walter's efforts and successes as a vindication of David Murray.
  12. Well once, when I was swimming across the Atlantic, I was struck by a comet that had been deliberately diverted in my direction by a Chinese spy satellite. Which was bad enough but the electromagnetic discharge from the comet entering the lower atmosphere caused thousands of sharks to attack anything that moved out on the open ocean. For several hours I fended them off by floating on my back and farting furiously. Boy, was I pissed FF when I realized I'd farted myself two hundred clicks north and missed the UK altogether. But those Trondheim brothels sure can make up for the odd little setback! Never dod fond out what I'd done t piss off the Chinese though, moody little yellow buggers.
  13. Yes, nearly got a lot more than I'd bargained for there. Memphis Airport close 30 minutes after I arrived. No prospect of a flight out for a couple of days so decided to hire a car and drive out - bad idea, as I discovered driving south through Mississippi with the tornado warnings referring to strange place names that I was simultaneously reading on road signs as I drove south. Convinced for a while I'd mad a really bad call but of course the Devil looks after his own and he did a great job clearing a path for me. Good old Devil I say. For good measure I missed my connection at Memphis on the way home so that's one place I'll be avoiding for a while. Going to head back over there in the summer but intend meeting Mrs Maineflyer in Boston on the way home for a wee holiday.
  14. As always, great insight. Did we both take a sabbatical at the same time because I haven't seen you post for what seems like many weeks. I've been too busy at work to visit here much these last few weeks and I have a suspicion you ain't been around much either.
  15. Listen, we've all been through the FF mill, some of us several times over. But let me assure you that this isn't a place where posts are deleted, opinion censored or members banned without cause. If it was then I would have been toast long ago. That Gersnet isn't run on the same basis as the likes of FF is exactly why so many of us come here and as often as not stay. So have your say and don't be a shrinking violet if someone disagrees with you.
  16. That pretty much sums up the Murray years, wasted opportunity, inept management and deceit.
  17. Sorry Boss .......... well nearly.
  18. Wtf are you on about now? I posted about Murray's inability to appoint good people - you come back with some shit about funding. Listen mate, either keep up or shut up. Btw, by 'provided to' I assume you mean borrowed for.
  19. Gersnet is such a hard school. Gotta stay on your toes ALL the time.
  20. Don't know about that but I think we can bank on having a new board fairly soon. Have you given up twitter?
  21. Well, not too small
  22. Decision is made. Time to stop the speculating and get behind McCoist. Rangers men on the park, in the management and a Rangers man owning the club. What more could we ask?
  23. Yes indeed but if he tries to make the existing RST the vehicle for representation he will probably fail, which would be a huge pity. If he knows his onions he will set up something completely new and leave the fractious past behind, completely.
