This week @Govan Rear Bear, @Stevie - 4lads Blog and myself discuss our European progress, squad changes, transfer value for money and Dave King's constant fire-fighting in the courts. If possible, please consider making a contribution to the Rangers Former Players' Benevolent Fund's David Hagen's JustGiving page. https://www.gersnet.co.uk/index.php/news-category/current-affairs/925-gersnet-podcast-010-shkupi-defeated-but-are-we-progressing4 points

There will be NO statement....it was 100% expected. Liewell will serve his time, then be replaced by a RFC representative.3 points

Thoroughly enjoyed that again. It's a good sign when it feels like 20 minutes. Well done guys!2 points

I always thought we should have kept Waghorn. Tank of a guy who was often played out of position.2 points

Do you not think both Mrs Trump and Mme Macron have an extra-terrestrial look about them? Tear off the plastic face masks and there are reptilian aliens underneath.1 point

Won’t SR then get the SFA position Liewell’s vacated?1 point

Mbabu was that player that got loaned to us from Newcastle United back in the later stages of the that disastrous 2014/15 season in the Championship. He came alongside the likes of Haris Vuckic, Remie Streete and Shane Ferguson. Made 0 appearances for us and was a total flop but went to Young Boys in Switzerland and won the league with them for the first time in 32 years, finishing 15 points above Basel. Both Basel and Fulham have put in offers of £7m and £10m respectively although I believe that Basel had their offer knocked back. Brings Martyn Waghorn to mind. A former player who we sold for pennies and is now being linked with a £10m move to Sheffield United.1 point

You are right, wishing Hibs to go through isn't popular, not with me anyway1 point

Worth noting that people like Ozil are not just normal people....they are internationally recognised sportsmen, in many cases verging on celebrity status. They also have various commitments that they HAVE to comply with for sponsors etc. In this instance, did Ozil make a point of going to meet with Erdogan, or did they happen to meet at the same function???1 point

Hibs seem to have got a pretty favourable draw with Asteras Tripolis followed by Molde. They'll be serious underdogs for both but they dodged Sevilla, Rapid Vienna and AZ Alkmaar. Won't be a popular opinion on here but I'd like to see us both go through. I didn't realise that we had to play another round before the groups, though apparently we'll be seeded so should dodge the toughest teams.1 point

This was the game I was thinking about. Fleck was called up to take part in the full squad pre-season tour of Germany.[4] Fleck was handed his debut for the first team against SV Lippstadt 08 on 15 July 2007, becoming the first 15-year-old to play for the first team since Derek Ferguson[5] in 1982. Fleck impressed and scored in a 3–1 friendly victory over Sportfreunde Lotte in the next friendly game. We actually won that one 3-1. that is where I got the 3-1 from. I was at both the Lotte games as it is only about 45 mins down the road from here. I also saw us playing Quick Oldenzaal in Holland under Advocaat. I sat waiting in the social club after the game expecting the players to come in for a drink but they were ushered directly on to the bus and driven away. Rangers also used to stay in a sport hotel in de Lutte just inside the Dutch Border and I watched them train there a few times. That is within cycling distance from me. The brother of Mark Wotte was the agent that used to arrange things for Rangers in Holland and Germany. I met him when I was lying in Hospital and his father-in -law lay in the bed next to me. His f-i-l told him I was a Rangers supporter and he all of a sudden started singing the sash. He said he was good friends with McCoist. I had no idea who he was and shocked when he started singing the sash.1 point

I was at Sportfreunde Lotte game but obviously getting mixed up with the 3-1 score and the bath slippers that must have been another year. I take my hat off for all the guy's that can remember things that happen in games in the sixties my memory of games is hopeless.1 point

Part of the Newcastle Treatment Room Five who our CEO at the time, Derek Lambias (with absolutely no connections with Newcastle or their owner of course) deemed could join without a medical being conducted. The rest were so lame that beside them, Vuckic looked almost good.1 point

I think we need a wee reality check here. It’s a fair bet that Osijek have better players than us, so I don’t know why everybody seems to be expecting an easy game. Croatia have just got to the World Cup final ffs. Scotland haven’t even qualified for 20 years, and our Scottish players can’t even get into their squad at the moment. Osijek are seeded for a reason. It would be a huge achievement to beat them. Steven Gerrard has already done better than a Caixinha by beating a better team than Progres were, so I hope he isn’t going to get stick if we lose. And as for Maribor, they have knocked out us, Hibs, Celtic and Aberdeen in recent years, so I don’t think they would be fearing us either..1 point

Fair enough mate. Whilst I'm reasonably satisfied with the business we've done thus far, I reckon we are still light. I honestly think (and I caveat this with 'the window is far from shut') that if we head into the first half of the season with a playing squad pretty much as it currently stands, then the euphoric sense of expectation back in mid May will have to be drastically revised by large sections of the support. Stevie and his team may be very, very good at what they do but they are not miracle workers. I'm not expecting miracles nor 55 this time around, but if any subsequent signings are of a similar quality to what we've seen up until now (Coulibaly and Sidiq aside as we haven't seen them yet) then thousands, who are hoping for a miracle, are going to be sorely disappointed in my view. I obviously hope I am very wrong and that everyone can excel and deliver over and above most fans expectations this season.1 point

Heads of states have to be diplomatic to some extent. If they didn't meet other heads of state from time to time international relations would be (negatively) affected. Ozil is a citizen and doesn't represent anyone. It's up to him if he wants to go and meet the Turkish president. It's not up to the Queen or Theresa May whether they do it, they are obliged to do so. I suspect, like the Chechen President did with Mo Salah at the WC, Erdogan was just looking for good publicity and got it and Ozil has to deal with the backlash because Germany were hugely disappointing. If they had done well, we'd probably have heard nothing more of it.1 point
-
So how do you possibly work out that a picture is diplomacy on the one hand but is support on another. They are pictures in all cases. You are clearly making subjective opinions based on what your preferred outcome is. Despite Ozil saying his appearance wasn’t a show of support you choose to believe him, The Queen and Theresa May never said either way whether it was support but you attached “diplomacy” as the cover-all tagline. Must be great being a politician or sovereign as you can hide behind “diplomacy” and even in silence you will be given the benefit of the doubt - but everyone else will be judged based on what our preferred outcomes are. Comes across as hypocrisy to me.1 point
-
Laughable decision. I'd like to have seen the outcome if this had been us too..........1 point

That won't be enough. When SG talked about a serious lack of quality in the final third after the game in Macedonia, surely he did so with the full intention of aggressing the issue before the transfer window closed. Sadiq and Kent offer options but by hook, crook or the loan market, we need a splash of quality.1 point

Erdogan is a pariah like figure throughout Europe and particularly so in the EU which though it doesn't get everything right they're right about him. Ozil might say things like it's just a photograph but he's helping to legitimise and seemingly supporting the activities of Erdogan by appearing in this photograph. This isn't about race, it's about him apparently supporting what is effectively a dictator in all but name.1 point
