  1. All joking aside, I would rather keep him for another season, if he is successful again he will be worth even more

  2. £12 is ridiculous for a pre season friendly. I could go for not much more than that

  3. Consummate professional . hope he stays and lifts 55

  4. I appreciate everyone’s point of view and I’m pretty much just in the camp of what can we do about it? I’m lost on all the legalities; does anyone know or can they explain what they think the board can do to rid us of this horrible lard ass? Once we are rid of this reptile we can dissect what went on..

  5. Agreed. people talk as if legal disagreements are “black and white” and there can only be one correct viewpoint. People are tending to ignore that the current Board inherited the carnage of these contracts from their useless predecessors. Trying to unwind these one-sided, highly restrictive contracts was always going to be extremely difficult, no matter who the Board were and no matter who the legal team was. The Board took action which they hoped would break stalemates and try to come to resolution.... it didn’t happen but a) it wasn’t for the lack of trying and b) it wasn’t their fault the Club were bound into these ridiculously one sided contracts. Some just want to ignore the good that the Board have done and focus on the negative..... the appointment of Mark Allen very much seems to be paying dividends... after the fiasco of Caixinha it appears the club have made a very shrewd appointment in Gerrard, they have provided funds for acquisitions, there have been renovations at ibrox, HTC has been given an upgrade, the Academy teams seem to be “best in class in country”, we have playing staff who can actually be sold for a change rather than paid off, leaks to the press seem to have been quashed..... There are many, many more positives around the club right now - to focus on one of the few negatives seems churlish to me and, worse, it is one whereby the current Board were hamstrung to it since the day they took over.

  6. I was sceptical when we signed him, yet trusted SG, and I have to say what a professional he is and still knows his way to goal, his fitness is not in question. What I am wondering is, when does his contract run out with Bournemouth? and is he someone we should be looking to sign again if he is a free agent? can we afford him?., and would the majority of Rangers fans want to sign him?. I would like to see him play next season again depending on the wages!!.

  7. Agreed. And on top of that, him and Gerrard seem to really like each other. Just finished Gerrard's 1st biography and in it he talks about Defoe being the consummate professional when Rooney was injured before a WC and Defoe was on standby. Rooney made the squad and apparently Defoe went around the whole squad shaking everyone's hands and wishing them well for the WC - that was the year Ericksson took Walcott in his squad - Gerrard was adamant that England would have had a chance had he taken Defoe instead. Gerrard spoke of his admiration for Defoe and the way he handled the situation and being left out of the squad for a 17 yr old. As well as that, Defoe genuinely seems like he is loving life at Rangers. I would take him after this season again - he doesn't come across as the money grabbing type so could see him willing to stay on reduced wages to round out his career.

  8. I doubt we would have him mate if he was 22. We can't even match Chelsea for a 16 year old.

  9. Probably the best striker in the league. Shame hes not 22

  10. I am still pissed off at him for scoring that 6th goal and beating me for a correct score. Hang him I say!

  11. If the supporters had just accepted Green and his buddies and bought strips from Ashely then we would still be in a lot worse trouble. I agree with a lot you say but I have to disagree here. Voices from the shadows can change things. It was the supporters that helped drive the spivs out. I agree we couldn't have done it without King the three bears but the supporters played a big part in the proceedings.

  13. It would have been nice to see these medals in the trophy room at Ibrox.

  14. It wouldn’t have mattered if O’Halloran had the gifts of Messi, he clearly didn’t want to be at Rangers and it showed every time he played for us.

  16. I didn't realise there was a different package to the one I'm on. Like Pete, I pay a monthly sum that gives me everything. I would probably still pay £12 to watch us but that is really steep for a friendly.

  17. I’m a huge fan of all things Defoe. I think he’s the perfect modern striker, a fantastic player and looks 5-10 years younger than he is on the pitch.

  19. I’m hoping and think there is at least a possibility that Tav is just too invested in the team and the potential of the coming season to think of leaving at this stage. He’s been there since the disappointments of the Warburton SPL season and he knows as well as anybody that we have turned a corner. Hopefully he’s simply so invested that he won’t want to miss this. He’s still young enough to make an EPL move next season.

  20. I am not in the know mate I just remembered your posts on the subject. I probably listen better to you than your family do.

  21. I'm not certain, but I think Defoe's contract runs out with Bournemouth when his loan finishes with us. I would take him on a rolling contract. Not sure if we could afford him, however. I think he'd be a great option, and a great player to have around, for everyone to learn from. I do recall seeing a documentary-type show, which highlighted how impressive his fitness was/is.

  22. Can I respectfully suggest 'flank attacker'? A winger to me is a touchline hugger, a dying breed these days; whereas the flank attacker is expected to track back and move inside when required, also offering a better than average goal return. Of course the prime example par excellence is Mo Salah. Not sure about Jones but at least he is comfortable on left or right.

  23. Ashely doesn't have the rights he only has the right of getting the chance to match any bids that come in.

  24. I am pretty sure it was Johnny that said that. His father was a Celtic supporter but never pushed him towards Celtic hence supporting Motherwell. He actually knocked Celtic back twice before we bought him.

  25. His auld man and his side of the family are Separate Entity FC fans, his mum and her side of the family are Rangers fans, if I remember Johnnyk correctly?

  26. If they rely too heavily on Brown they are fucked. Even moreso when they play us if we maintain the high press, because the only way Brown looks like a half decent player is when he is allowed time and space to make his 5-10 yard sideways and backwards passes. High press like we did at Ibrox in December and he actually looks like a pub player. They surely cant only be looking for a RB and expecting the same end result as last season ?

  27. With respect, knowing what went wrong (and clearly a lot did) will definitely inform the current board but if they're not already a long way beyond the point of learning lessons from it then all the fretting in the world won't change anything. It's worth saying that accepting a bad situation isn't even in question, since you have no choice but to accept a bad situation when it already exists. The only question in town is what you do from here, how do you make it better. Also, all this biblical rending of garments by supporters doesn't count for shit anyway.

  29. Exactly my point Pete , but there are still some in our own support who blame Ashley , and I hate the fat prick , but this mess is of our own boards making and it's going to cost us millions

  30. Yeh I wasn’t trying trying to nitpick because I agree with that comment, I’d just rather use someone other than Jones as the example because I think he’ll be a backup, maybe an impact sub

  31. How many times do we need to get our drawers taken down in court and our bare arses spanked before people will see what is blatantly obvious , the old board got us into this mess , but our current board have made it a whole lot worse. We have went from a 7 year deal , to a never ending deal as long as SD get to match it , which by law we must allow them to offer on . The fact we never even understood our own clauses make it even worse .

  32. Yep. His tackling ain`t that bad and he has pace to burn, even at 30+. Especially when we play with 3-at-the-back. That said, he won't play every game either ... but who knows what was really said. IMHO, it would be strange to leave the project as it stands right now with the "only" cause being regular football - not least when you got about 85+ % of all games last season. Ojo is raw, as is Hastie. They won't play every week, unless Ojo has some sort of Kent-clause, who was played near every week no matter how off he was. That would alos be my concern with guys like Herbie ... Liverpool would demand that we play him, but who do we drop? Kamara? Jack? I think not. Checked the German pages and thus far, Alfredo does not appear on their List (only the German one available) https://www.transfermarkt.de/eintracht-frankfurt/geruechte/verein/24 That said, the sold Luca Jovic, Sebastian Haller and Ante Rebic for a combined Euro 150m, who scored 57 goals between one another lastseason. Given the money they have, I'd say 20m and no penny less for Alfredo, if they actually want him. EDIT: Yes, Tav to the Magpies for 10m ... plus 5m Ashley-tax.

  33. Once a player's head is turned by the EPL, it's a struggle to keep them interested in matches at Hamilton and St Johnstone. Plus I don't think Rangers are in a position to turn down multi-million pound offers. Hopefully we keep Tav and Morelos but we have to be realistic about these things.

  34. Both need to stay if we are to seriously challenge for the title, selling our best players won't win us the title.

  35. The previous board put us in this mess. Our current board is trying to get us out of it. Don't you agree? Whichever side pays the most money to the best lawyers will normally win these encounters, but it's still an important tactic to push the boundaries, and even to knowingly breach certain terms. If this had been a short term contract the prudent thing to do would be to ride it out, but that's not the case. This has years to run so we should not be accepting the situation. This is a commonly used tactic in large businesses but that's where commerciality is key. With MA and SD, this seems personal so we will see if it has the same effect in eventually wearing him down. We don't have a choice as far as I can see because I'd certainly not want us to just stand there while he punches us in the face.

  36. In terms of ability (when signed at least) I’d say very similar imo. However Jones has a good attitude and determination to succeed so I think he’ll do fine as a squad player. Being a fan buys you time from the stands too.

  37. Determination to succeed comes as much from mental desire as footballing ability. I may be old fashioned but I don't want Celtc fans playing for Rangers.

  38. I think you're being a bit harsh on the board, rbr. They're not perfect but they want what's best for Rangers. If we all stick together we can take on anyone.

  39. I ventured on to Killiekickback and ironically there appears to be growing support for blaming last evening's result, on the newly laid plastic pitch. Squirrel humping impacts upon your mental health.
