  1. It's a real shame when you can't post an article on the forum without being forensically double-teamed by pedantic smarty pants (Do they really have nothing better to do?) I'd like to draw your attention to the forum's ignore function.

  6. They won't sue because they can't sue. I'm sure we'll see a resolution soon enough once the SPFL have decided who the fall guy is going to be.

  7. Just going through this thread. I thought Simms won the vast majority of challenges with either Goldson or Balogun. Hard running with robust strength goes a long way in the Scottish game. If Everton do not renew his contract, I think he is worth a punt?

  9. I'm not one for highlighting referees but some of the decisions today were beyond baffling. The one in the corner when Halliday took the feet away from Bassey was as clear a foul as you will see.

  11. To say something is interesting is to say that you want to know more about it. You say this is interesting because you are surprised that a B.B.C. columnist would write something positive about Rangers. I don't know what more you want to know about Tom's decision to write this article. I can't even imagine what is unclear about it. Rangers won the Scottish cup. Bassey is attracting attention from outwith Scotland after the Europa league final. Tom wants page views to justify himself to his employers. He is riding Bassey's coat tails to get those page views. (Want to get inside the tiny mind of a columnist? See here for more info) The article itself is rubbish. You can distill it down to a handful of obvious facts including, but not limited to, the following: 1. Bassey is fit enough to play extra time in two successive matches. 2. Rangers have not won many trophies recently. 3. Rangers faced a challenge to motivate themselves for the Scottish cup final. 4. A series of facts about play in the Scottish cup final. All well known to us and buried within Tom's excessively verbose text. I thought I would find some interesting opinion contained within but I didn't.

BBC Scotland's Irishman English posts an article critical of Rangers, Rangers' player(s), or Rangers' support - no news BBC Sotland's Irishman English posts an article not critical of Rangers, Rangers' player(s), or Rangers' support - news This may be like a dog walking on its hind legs, ie not done well, but it is surprising to see it done at all, and therefore may be worthy of comment.

  16. I read the article. The sentiment was positive but the content seemed forced and shallow, the sort of thing someone might throw together on demand rather that conviction. Tom English is capable of decent writing but this wasn't it.

  17. I'd have thought someone in Sweden would sign Helander and a club in Europe somewhere would take Itten? Simpson might be a nomimal fee/mutual agreement sort of thing. McLaughlin's show yesterday just confirmed for me he's more than capable of being our number one. He's not a sweeper-keeper, but he's not afraid to come well out of his box to help recycle the ball or clear it. And how great was it when he came for a couple of corners yesterday? Opposition corners when its all even or we're only one up have given me the fear, but he just came, grabbed the ball, no panic. Do we think we might see Diallo again next season? Someone seems to have had a word with him and he seems to get what's expected of a Rangers player in the last few times I've seen him. I know effort isn't everything, but he's clearly talented. I thought Souttar played well yesterday too, so is hopefully a good addition.

  18. He seems like such a nice, down to earth guy with lots of humility and is clearly loving life here. Given his age and all of that, I'd hope he's in no rush to go anywhere and is looking forward to the CL qualifiers as one of the first names on the team sheet.

  26. Susan Aitken's Policy Advisor took to Twitter yesterday and, both Tweets related to a Rangers game. Gerry Braiden was fixated on the Scottish Cup final, he was advising his followers to wager upon a fellow Alumni notching the cup winning goal against Rangers : "Good luck to former Cliftonville and West Belfast legend Liam Boyce today. The first person from my old school to score a winner in the Scottish Cup final. Do not bet against it". Imagine, an Advisor to Glasgow City Council urging and encouraging the centre forward of an Edinburgh club to score against a Glasgow club. What type of PRO proffers such advice? However, Gerry's dalliance with the Cousins of William did not survive Saturday evening. He Tweeted : "That's it I'm done. I have followed Hearts through thick and thin for over 48 hours but no more, it's over". Gerry has been through it all before; the Officials, the Provisionals, the Continuity, the Real, ................ etc. Where do Gerry's allegiances lie? This morning, Susan's Advisor concluded that winning the oldest trophy in world football can only be compared to finishing last in a competition. The majestic piece of silverware that is the Scottish Cup is a Booby Prize : "Booby Prize Sunday is ok, eh"? I think we can all see with these Tweets why RAB Cosgrove considers Gerry to be a very good friend of the show?

  28. The article highlighted by Jonny McFarlane is from Saturday's Times. It was penned by Ewing Grahame. The piece is more than a spoiler, it is obscuration. Ewing Grahame was chosen because he is another shill for Sellik. Ewing graham was the Herald's Chief Football Writer in 2003. Rangers faced Stuttghart in the Champions League that year. Grahame traveled on the Rangers team flight to Germany, a member of the official party. On the day of the game he became tired and emotional. He missed the kick-off, arrived in the press box and slumped into a deep stupor. His submitted copy bore no resemblance to the match. He went back to sleep and missed the provided coach leaving the stadium for the Airport. The Rangers flight missed the allocated slot and, was delayed for over two hours. Rangers made a formal complaint as to his unacceptable behaviour and, the Herald sacked him. Twenty years on, Ewing continues his great hatred.

  29. Pointed out to my mate yesterday to watch the Hearts "giant i.e. Simms" at 75-80 minutes he was out on his feet. Think if those who want him to come to us it would take at least three transfer windows to get him to our fitness levels.

  30. I find it unlikely that we could ever get Gilmour on a permanent deal, but if so, I'm all for it. (Like I've said, though, I did think the Ramsey move was highly unlikely...) I think Simms only played in the last couple of games against us. Yes, about 1 goal in 3/4 games? He's not prolific. But he looks like a good physical presence with a bit of pace. And, he's only 21. I'm just saying, I wouldn't mind picking him up on a free. It would give us a physical presence up front.

  33. Rest assured, Eintracht will have no clue about the standing of the DR amongst us and their reporters. That said, the latter may very well have spilled their breakfast (much like their preferred audience) when seeing that advert appear. As for their displays ... well, that would mean that those of Roma, Lazio, Red Star, you name it displays are also akin to "Nuremburg Rally" stuff. What a strange strange comment ... not least since Frankfurt (and its fans) is probably the most mutli-cultural city in Germany next to Hamburg.

  43. No Rest for the Wicked - Four Games in Ten Days. I loved the band, Free - Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke, Andy Fraser and, Paul Kossoff rang my bell. The album, Fire and Water was on the turntable daily. They were greater than the sum of their parts and those parts were special. Kossoff's tone, Fraser's bass lines, Kirke's simple metronomic drumming and, all topped with Rodgers giveitsumasoul delivery. By April'72, they had split and I had not seen them live. Rodgers formed a power trio named, 'Peace' and they were providing support for Mott the Hoople at Greens Playhouse. I bought a ticket. It was a busy Saturday; schools football, Broomfield for the Rangers game then, an anxious bus journey to see the support act. Broomfield was an atmospheric ground, a two storey shoebox stand, a terrace called Section B and, Airdrie Sheriff Court appropriately sat adjacent. The Diamonds had a good side, they had reached the final of the Texaco Cup knocking out Ballymena, Manchester City and, Huddersfield Town. Brian Clough's Derby County waited as the final hurdle. An attendance of 12,000 was a real crush. We had defeated Bayern but facing Airdrionians, that was a real fight. Airdrie lined up : McKenzie, Caldwell, Clarke, Menzies, McKinlay, Whiteford, Wilson, Walker, Busby, Jarvie and, Cowan. Rangers ran out - McCloy, Denny, Miller, Conn, Jackson, Smith, Henderson, Penman, Fyfe, D Johnstone and A MacDonald. Obviously, the Diamonds had their minds on their visit to the Baseball ground because the fight and the game was over in under thirty minutes. There was a lot of football in that Rangers side, Andy Penman notched a double on the 16th and 29th minutes. Graham Fyfe got the second goal on the 27th minute. A 0-3 scoreline at both half-time and full time was a welcome surprise. The Mott gig had been cancelled, Ian Hunter had lost his voice, it was rescheduled for Saturday 29th April. Two days later, Hampden and the Hibees awaited. The Scottish Cup semi-final replay did not appear to be an arduous task, we had knocked Hibs out of the National trophy on each of the three previous seasons. However, as stated before Eddie Turnbull's Hibernian was different, a tactical astute team. Fifty-eight thousand trapped under the lights and watched Rangers come out of the tunnel - McCloy, Jardine, Mathieson, Parlane, Jackson, Smith, McLean, D Johnstone, Stein, MacDonald and, Johnston. Hibs - Herriot, Brownlie, Schaedler, Stanton, Black, Blackley, Edwards, Hazel, Gordon, O'Rourke and, Duncan. This was our third game in six days. I stood in the Schoolboy Enclosure and knew when Pat Stanton scored with the aid of a wicked deflection off Bomber Jackson's thigh in the 12th minute, we were not coming back. The men from Leith had an excellent midfield trio, Skipper Stanton was box to box, O'Rourke had an eye for a pass and regularly executed with perfect weight and, Edwards was superb in hitting long diagonals. It was the latter who continually turned us, finding the pacy Duncan. We looked leggy heading off at the end of the first period. Hibs were relentless in the second and received their reward with a headed Hazel goal midway through the half. It finished 0-2 but it could have, probably should have been more? We had no time to lick Scottish Cup wounds, the Pars were visiting Ibrox three nights later, on a Thursday evening. A week before 85,000 squeezed into the Stadium for the ECWC semi-final, Dunfermline were confronted with 5,000. Rangers - McCloy, Jardine, Mathieson, Conn, Jackson, Smith, Henderson, D Johnstone, Stein, Johnston and, A MacDonald. Dunfermline Athletic - Arrol, Callaghan, Lunn, Fraser, McNichol, Leishman, K Thomson, Mitchell, Mackie, Scott and, Gillespie. Interestingly, the Pars Ken Mackie was the subject of a £50,000 bid from Rangers and this was accepted; however, the player decided to remain at East End Park. I was not in attendance, I had to rely upon a mate's younger brother who was an Ibrox Ballboy for a team sheet and a thirty second report of the game. The Fifers opened the scoring on the 9th minute, we equalised and went ahead with a Doddie double on both the 12th and 13th minutes. Thomson drew the Pars level five minutes later then, Sandy Jardine scored an own goal on the stroke of half-time. Colin Stein achieved parity on the hour mark and, Jim Leishman scored a screamer with several minutes left to play. We had been gubbed 3-4 by the Pars and had to face Hibs again at the Stadium in two days time. The Tannochside RSC bus left the Miners' welfare with barely two dozen souls. Only a dozen tickets of the Sweep had been sold and it was withdrawn. The attendance was given as 12,000, a shade optimistic? Rangers - McCloy, Jardine, Mathieson, Penman, Jackson, Smith, McLean, D Johnstone, Stein, MacDonald and, Johnston. Hibernian - Herriot, Brownlie, Schaedler, Stanton, Black, Blackley, Auld, Hazel, Gordon, O'Rourke and, McGhee. The first forty-five reeked of end of season, the latter half sparked into life when Jackson bundled over Gordon in the box, the Ref' awarded a spot kick and, Jimmy O'Rourke stroked it home. Fifteen minutes later, DJ headed an equaliser which lasted a couple of minutes before Bertie Auld struck the winner on the 72nd minute. A 1-2 loss brought a few Boos and a few howls of disgust, the driver of an Invalid car was beside himself, stopped at the gate leaning on his horn. The rescheduled gig was a further disaster, Peace were off the Mott tour because Free were reforming. The support act replacements were the Dream Police. Hamish Stewart of the future Average White Band was the vocalist but it was not music, sweet music, not the Queen of my soul. We had one League game left against Ayr United and, then three weeks hence it was Moscow Dynamo in the ECWC final in Barcelona. Dave Smith had been named as Player of the Year but Skipper, John Greig remained in light plaster. All right now?

  44. THE Scottish Football Association is being forced to pay all costs after losing a fight to exclude a firm run by the Rangers chairman from an arbitration in the club's sponsorship row with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). In August, Rangers chairman Douglas Park, whose company has his own sponsorship deal with the club, claimed a court victory in blocking the SFA proceeding with the case against the Ibrox club. But Scottish football's governing body has be en seeking to have the Court of Session decision to grant an interim interdict overturned to stop Park's from being an interested party in the dispute over the Ibrox club's refusal to promote an £8m league sponsorship deal with used car retailer cinch. But the Court of Session appeal court has thrown out the SFA's challenge. Scottish football's governing body is now having to foot both its and Park's costs in the case. The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) asked the SFA to arbitrate after Rangers refused to promote car retailer cinch, citing an agreement they already have with Park's of Hamilton. The club have not displayed any cinch branding on players' shirts, nor on any advertising hoardings or media boards. The club claim the SPFL's rule 17 means they are not obliged to promote the sponsorship because they have their own pre-existing contract with Park's of Hamilton second-hand car dealerships. The SPFL referred the dispute to the SFA in August and an arbitration case was set to proceed, but the proceedings have now been placed under an interim interdict. The dispute resolves around a failure to include Park's in the arbitration process. The SFA argue Park's are not part of the jurisdiction of the governing body, should not be party to the dispute and should not be part of the arbitration process that it orchestrates. But a previous hearing ruled that Park's - a rival car retailer to cinch can take part in the arbitration process as an interested party. Gerry Borland QC for the SFA said that the original court decision "flouted common sense". But Gavin McColl QC for Park's said the dispute was best resolved with all the parties that have an interest in the dispute being involved. He said it made "little commercial sense" for Park's to be "forced" to go to court to "seek to vindicate its contractual position". He added: "It is plain beyond any question that Park's is a party with an interest, a real patrimonial interest in the dispute." He said that the SPFL’s own rules show that Rangers is correct not to allow cinch branding at Ibrox. Lord Carloway, Lord President of the Court of Session and Lord Justice General of Scotland said there was "no reason" to reverse the original court's decision. The SPFL have previously warned the dispute could affect payments from the five-year deal with cinch, warning clubs the stand-off presented a "real and substantial commercial risk". Scotland's leagues had been without a title sponsor last season after the previous deal with bookmaker Ladbrokes ended. A letter to clubs said the SPFL board - on which Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson sits - had been trying to settle "this very serious impasse" to no avail. It also stated that Rangers have not provided the SPFL board with "sight of any pre-existing third-party contract" that would represent a conflict of commercial interest. After Mr Park's initial court victory Rangers accused the SPFL of adopting an "inadequate and antagonistic approach". It said the ruling "once again underlines ongoing concerns regarding the corporate governance and leadership of the SPFL". The club added: “These concerns are shared by many of the SPFL’s member clubs. We have complied with the SPFL’s own rules but today’s court hearing was one that could easily have been avoided if those responsible had adopted a more consensual and less confrontational approach. “The Executive of the SPFL required to carry out effective due diligence before entering into its contract with the new league sponsor. “Instead, an inadequate and antagonistic approach appears to have been adopted; one that it is hard to imagine is in the best interests of the SPFL’s member clubs.” Last month, judge Lord Braid heard advocate Lord Keen of Elie QC - who has been representing the SPFL - say that bosses at Rangers Football Club Ltd spoke to chiefs at cinch about renaming the club’s stadium earlier this year. The lawyer told the Court of Session that the organisations explored the possibility of calling the club’s home ‘the cinch Ibrox stadium.’ The club denied the claim. Following the hearing, a statement from Rangers read: “Cinch approached Rangers to discuss commercial opportunities in early 2021. “Rangers provided information on what opportunities might become available. This is common practice for our commercial team. “At no point did cinch offer any terms to Rangers. Contrary to the SPFL’s claims, no ‘negotiations’ took place."
