  1. There's a strange fascination with his build. He's never been a skinny sort. Anyway, he came on yesterday and we immediately improved. Not bad for a Sunday League player.

  2. Profile-wise, Cantwell and Davies are exciting signings. They are both technically gifted, young, versatile with huge upside in terms of resale value. (Cantwell was linked with Liverpool a couple of years ago.) The issue is - with Cantwell especially; Davies to a lesser degree - they've been beset by off-field problems, which is a little worrying but that's the only way we'd be able to sign players of this calibre. Davies has played as an #8 and a #6. Cantwell plays as an #8, #10 or wide, cutting inside.

  3. I don't catch Off The Ball often these days but I caught some of it on Saturday. They'd a couple of ex-refs on and I assume they'd hoped to further fuel the Ange bonfire that Scottish VAR and refereeing was being placed upon. Instead, at least while I was listening, the ex-refs laughed at the ridiculousness of these allegations of bias against the Celtic. One of them, (was his name Conroy?) explained he was a Celtic fan and once got pelters from his pals for chalking off a Celtic 'goal' against us. Both easily explained the 'hand ball' rule and expressed surprise that Ange and co didn't know it. Cosgrove sounded uncomfortable at this breaking out of common sense, Cowan, to his credit, mocked Celtic and their acolytes.

  4. The case for Goldson for his consistency over the last two games:

  5. Cho Gue-sung? A anagram of cues gung-ho, if that's of any help. Might hinge on who does the better kimchi at their training ground.

  6. Sakala again for me. Was the busiest of our poor lot in first half, then a sublime goal and nearly a second just after it. I see a lot of votes for Jack which surprise me. Was utterly abysmal in first half, as bad as I can remember seeing him, and while his second half was better, including a lovely flick off his shoulder into Sakala for the opener, I think he is still a long way short of his best, but signs of improvement are most welcome, and if we can get him back to his best for a few games before his inevitable injury it will help us win matches easier. Davies at the back is improving all the time, Borna had a good game, Kent again looking dangerous when given that freer role inside.

  7. He's clearly not at his best and I agree we should be looking to part ways but I think that's a bit OTT.

  8. You must watch a different Rangers from me. I think Lundstram has been our best and most consistent player since Beales return.

  9. I agree with this. Add to that he will be one of our higher paid players. It doesn’t make sense to have your highest paid players as guys with no resale value as if we don’t make Europe or need to wage dump it’s impossible to move these guys on. Tav, Goodson, Lundstram and Lawrence will likely be our top earners when Morelos leaves and no one Will likely buy them. It’s ok to have a few old heads around making big money but balance is required.

  10. No one thought for a minute that we'd get what we did for those two when we signed them, hindsight is indeed marvellous.

  11. Also, some chat that Cantwell was in Glasgow today. Manager's post-match comments yesterday about him and Tom Davies seemed to suggest a very strong interest given he named them both which is fairly unusual.

  12. We have the answer to our goalkeeping problem already in the building 😁

  13. Hard to see how you think that as this was first game he has been picked. Getting there though bullied scum defence and changed our attacking ability when he came on today.

  15. I can see both sides of the Lundstram debate - I think he's just been inconsistent this season, but so has the rest of the team, so it's hard to judge anybody really. Also makes it even more hard to judge those new signings who have been trying to bed-in and are doing so with a misfiring team around them.

  16. If he were more mobile, I wouldn't have a problem with his build. He used to be more mobile. We improved more down to a general increase in urgency and tempo. The style of Morelos suited our game, more than an ineffective, injured and not matchfit Colak.

  17. I counted at least 3 instances of clear shit pulling in the box by Dundee United players on our players yesterday. No VAR reviews for any of them. Have the rules changed to allow this or is it not something that VAR is used for?

  18. Apologies - said I don't think Colak fits Beales style. I like Colak but can't see him fitting in. Agree regarding Alfie but he just seems a bit "off it". Hopefully as he gets more games he'll get fitter and better

  19. And I trust Beales judgement. Here is a guy who has studied coaching all of his adult life on different continents.

  21. When the World Cup was on I was both thankful for the break from our football, but also couldn't wait for proper football to come back. Yet here I am a few weeks later and I'm utterly fed up of all the noise that comes from the other club in Glasgow - their fans, their cheerleaders in the press and even their manager playing to the gallery. It's so tiresome and seems to be infecting every piece of coverage of the game to the point where it's impossible to avoid. Even just the fact that its 2023 and we've still got Andy Walker commentating on games along with a bunch of pundits in print, online and on TV who don't appear to take any pride in their job and provide the laziest of analysis, whilst not even taking the time to understand the rules of the game. It's so disappointing that this is the standard we've come to accept in Scottish football. That's before you even look at the standard of refs, the governing bodies etc. Of course, if we weren't trying to self destruct the whole time (us v them, everyone else v us & them etc), maybe the collective fans would actually have a voice that would be listened-to.

  22. Oor Chum, Jum? I suspect Rangers are visiting Tannadice this weekend? The man Auntie Beeb let go(binned) twice because he could not(refused) to control his hatred for Rangers and Rangers supporters. I know the fixture must be at Tannadice because Jum Spence refuses to stray too far from the Tay. I know it is Rangers because Jum gathers together his hate filled finger buffet early. The first delicious bite comes in the wake of Pope Benedict's recent passing. Regularly, Jum eulogises his faith and, gives thanks for the strength provided. You would think the passing of the(a) Primate would demand respect? Nope, not when there is the opportunity to stick it on the H-u-ns, Jum Tweeted on Monday : "Farewell to the only Pope to get a well known delicacy cancelled at a Scottish football club's hospitality lounge". We are only three, four weeks past PQ's Dynamic Duo, RAB Cosgrove and Tam the Token discussing at some length and agreeing that the breakfast/brunch dish of Eggs Benedict had NEVER been on any menu at Ibrox in the first place. It was up there with Peperami being withdrawn from Ibrox kiosks because of green packaging and the Pitch having the grass cut in the shape of a sash. Why let hateful facts get in the way of a preferred warped story? Jum knows what he is doing. Now, Jum goes on to Tweet footage of masses being said Benedict's honour including lots of pomp and ceremony being mustered by the Swiss Guard. However, he misses a few helpful facts. Joseph Ratzinger when first elected Pope was subject to considerable unhelpful media coverage reference two photographs. One was of Joseph replete in his Hitler Youth uniform, the other as a member of the Luftwaffe. Pope Benedict sporting a Swastika is a tough image. The former is explained because it was German law for all 14 year old boys to join the the Hitler Youth. The other does not stand much investigation. Joseph Ratzinger became a Luftwaffenhelfer - a search light operator coordinated with anti-aircraft artillery. Aged seventeen, he began six months infantry training and, rejoined the Luftwaffe as an Anti-Aircraft gunner. The Vatican assured all that Joseph deserted soon after, having never fired a shot. This was surprising, a Luftwaffe battalion attached to a Waffen SS Division in northern Italy/ Austrian border area would have been a priority target for both the RAF and USAF. By Spring'45, the Allies had enjoyed nearly two years of air superiority, Typhoons and Mustangs would have been hitting continually. As an anti-aircraft gunner, it would have been a target rich environment. As the week progressed, Jum ramped up the hate, Sheriff Lyndsay Wood(Rangers shareholder) had a complaint against him withdrawn by the Law Society due to lack of evidence. Several Tweets supporting St Johnstone fans' complaint of their club awarding Rangers away support three out of four stands. Saintees are boycotting the Scottish Cup tie and Jum supports these actions. Further, solidarity with Establishment Club, he feels for ra Sellik and Angeball reference VAR, "other clubs are in the same boat". Finally, support for Police Scotland Union spokesperson, Calum Steele(you will remember after the Scottish Cup final of 2016, Calum Steel was the Clown claiming Rangers supporters threw their children in front of responding Polis vehicles). Jum resigned his position as Dundee Uni' Rectum because he said he did not have the time. I suspect Jum as a conservative catholic did not relate well to young Undergraduates, like Pope Benedict he walked away without firing a shot. Rangers on the horizon is too much, he needs cheering up. Why don't the Luftwaffe mark the passing of one of their own? A fly pass of a Stuka, Focke Wulf, Messerschmitt and, Heinkels over the silvery Tay will get Jum sparking his Jackboots again.

  23. HEAVEN help us if Kyogo Furuhashi had missed. Can you imagine the uproar had the Celtic striker blazed his shot over the crossbar at Ibrox last Monday? Drawing 2-2 was bad enough for some Hoops supporters and their media cheerleaders. Had they actually lost to Rangers, we’d be talking about a full-scale meltdown. Ange Postecoglou has even chipped in, claiming everyone would have been up in arms if the spot-kick incident had been at the other end of the pitch. Where has he been this past week, the moon? Because all I’ve heard and listened to is moans and groans about how wronged Celts were. Ange insists he’s only thinking of the teams in danger of being relegated because this could affect them down the line. Sure he is. Let’s get it right. This is just another attempt to keep the Celtic supporters riled into believing the world is against them. Let’s conveniently gloss over the fact the rules of the game state the handball incident with Connor Goldson is never a penalty. Honestly, some of the guff that’s been talked about and written this past week, by people who should know better, has been staggering. But that’s where we’re at. It pays some people’s bills to have a pop at Scotland’s top referees. My big pal Chris Sutton is always blaming someone. Remember how he accused Dunfermline’s players of lying down to Gers on the last day of the 2002-03 season? He wasn’t moaning about penalties as Celtic lost the title when Alan Thompson got one and booted it over the bar at Kilmarnock. Our referees DO make mistakes. They are only human. And there have been times this season when Celtic have been on the wrong end of bad decisions. They were denied a clear penalty against Hearts at Tynecastle for a handball inside the box. But every supporter of every club in the country could point to incidents that have gone against their team. Not every handball is a penalty kick. Not every bit of contact is a foul. But for some, it’s as though it has to be. They say Old Firm whistler John Beaton should have at least gone to the monitor to review the Goldson incident. That the VAR, Willie Collum, should have instructed Beaton to take another look. But that’s not how this piece of technology works. The ref saw the incident in real time and made his decision. VAR is only there to help him if he thinks he’s made a mistake. And going by the rules of the game, which state Goldson is allowed to protect his face when the ball is smashed at him from three yards, it’s NOT a penalty. But then the pundits claiming VAR should have intervened are the same ones who would probably hammer VAR for re-refereeing games and controlling the refs if they stepped in all the time. It’s the outrage that gets me. Andy Walker had an argument with one Celtic fan on radio this week which was staggering. To claim our game is corrupt is baffling beyond belief when you think they have been the dominant team in Scotland over the last decade. Some people get it into their heads that our referees have an allegiance to certain clubs. They seem to forget that a huge percentage of the players who play in Scotland support Celtic. What do they do when they run out at Parkhead, roll over? Of course not. I’m sick and tired of the conspiracy theories that get bandied about by Hoops fans and former players. Do some people genuinely believe the game is rigged? Maybe we should just let Celtic win everything. Our referees would then be able to sleep at night without worrying about some idiot attacking them in the street. Because I genuinely fear that’s where this is all leading. If we’re not careful someone is going to get hurt.

  24. I was questioning the subs at the time, just as I questioned the subs at Aberdeen and at the Motherwell game. If he gets the subs right, and takes the knackered Kamara off for say Arfield, then Kyogo is not left unmarked to score the equaliser, as Kamara was a couple of yards away and didnt track him. Yes of course if Tav makes the tackle (both goals) or Jack doesnt fanny about then the ball doesnt get to Kyogo in the first place. Also if he puts Roofe or Colak or Arfield on instead of Sands, then perhaps they score the opportunity when Sands gets the ball in a great opportunity and refuses to shoot and ends up losing the ball instead. We didnt need to go all defensive to see the game out from 60 mins, we had them exactly where we wanted them and should have pushed on for a comfortable win. Do you think our opponent would have done the same? It comes down to in-game management and footballing philosophy, and while its early days I am somewhat troubled by what i've seen in this area to date.
