  1. Bit late to the thread, thought it wasn't a 5-2 game as pretty much everyone else and the manager does. Points taken away: desperate for a new gk even if McCrorie gets a run and comes good. Cantwell looks like he could be great business, hopefully him and Raskin can drive the team on. Probably unpopular but I understand why we bought Matondo and am convinced there's a player in there somewhere, he's kind of like a skinny Adama Traore. But hopefully we won't forever be waiting for it to 'click'. Motm Cantwell.

  2. Definitely need to offload a good few, but I'd give #ScottyArf another year. We need to unearth a gem of a striker, another Jelavic.

  3. I'd say a striker and a goalkeeper are the two we really need but the midfield, wide forwards and defence need reinforcements/replacements too. To start with, the main focus should be offloading deadwood.

  4. The Sellik State of Mind Narrative. PQ have made the decision to increase their hours of football output on a Saturday. It is now a guaranteed seven hours from Noon until 19.00hrs. The last hour and a half are filled with a special guest(last week it was Sanjeev Kholi) and selected groupings of club supporters contacted on their way home from a game. BBC Scotland have a number of Sellik supporting Staffers at the top end of the organisation; there's Chris McLaughlin as Sports Correspondent, Tom English as Chief Sports Writer, Kheredine Idessanne as Sports Reporter, ........ etc. What is required to keep up the hate are edgy Sellik supporters from Podcasts - websites that can deliver the killer one liners. As discussed in earlier pieces, A Celtic State of Mind has been chosen and a couple of members have already been appearing across the spectrum, notably Amy Canavan. The Bonnyrigg Rose prickled again on The View from the Terrace. A review of season 2008 had a mention of the number of games faced by Rangers in achieving status as UEFA Cup finalists. Amy delivered the killer lines that the big competition that season like any other was the Premiership and that was won by her beloved Sellik, no mention of the three day extended season. Amy has utilised her appearance on this show to articulate her disdain for Scots clubs achieving Euro finalist status. Earlier in the season, she told of family jumping up and dancing around the room as Aaron Ramsey had his penalty saved in last season's Europa Cup final. The reappearance of Sanjeev Kholi is equally interesting. Along with another Sellik supporter, Greg Hemphill they were the first co-hosts of Off the Ball 28 years past. Sanjeerv secured the job by taking to the Sunday papers to establish his credentials. Charleen Sweeney was the Editor of Scotland on Sunday's current affairs supplement, 'Seven Days'. In a three page exclusive, he told of being educated privately at St Aloysius College, Glasgow. Along with his two brothers, they were the only Rangers supporters attending the school. His support changed to Sellik after witnessing Mark Walters debut at Sellik Park on the second of January'88. Sanjeev's contribution was the very epitome of revisionism. He told of being in the Rangers end, seeing fellow Rangers supporters in Gorilla suits and several hundred bananas being lobbed from the Rangers end on to the pitch. Charleen loved the revisionism, the next week she published a one paragraph piece of correspondence disagreeing with Sanjeev's recollection. The following week, two pieces of correspondence were worthy of publication, both were penned by Sanjeev's brothers. The sex pest, Hardeep took several paragraphs to say nothing and the other, s senior Met' Officer talked about discrimination. Job done, Sanjeev was confirmed as Off the Ball host. Later that year, two Glasgow Uni' Undergrads died in a basement flat with barred windows fire in West Princes Street, Glasgow. The barred windows contravened the city council license and the Kholi familys several hundred licenses were immediately investigated. The conclusion was a withdrawal of in excess of 250 of the licenses and the family were accused of being slum Landlords. A banner at a Rangers match soon after proclaimed, 'Sanjeev Kholi - a Liar and Slum Landlord'. The Polis removed said banner telling the truth. The Kholi family live a charmed life with the Police. Despite two separate investigations into Hardeep's sex pesting, he has not faced charges but no longer appears on anything. Maybe the third brother's occupation has an influence? No show without Punch, RAB Cosgrove revisited Mark Walters debut three years past. We were back to a carpet of bananas in front of the Jungle but the whole signing was deliberately framed as part and parcel, integral really in the signing of Maurice Johnston, portrayed as Rangers first catholic signing. Archie 'Punch' Kyle played in excess of 200 games for Rangers at the turn of the nineteenth-twentieth centuries, the Rangers Historian stated he was Rangers thirty-first RC signing. RAB created a show without Punch and John Spencer. When Mo' signed he doubled the number of catholics at the Club. There is a documentary to be made and, should be made why Rangers signed only half-a-dozen RCs between 1922 and 1988. Do it and tell the truth. Talking of truth sayers, last week's immediate post old firm guest is another teller of ra Sellik truth. Paul English has been a regular Off the Ball guest over the years, a former Daily Record showbiz Journo, he is now just another PQ Staffer. He was the equivalent of the wee guy at the front of a swaggering Orange Band, the stick was being twirled and launched with a ton of triumphalism. He was anxious to compare and contrast with Rangers glory days, "when they were paying the piper ..... wait a minute did they pay the piper"? Guffaws around the studio were only quelled when Paul delivered the message, under AngeBall, Sellik are unstoppable. Neither of the Dynamic Duo mentioned, dared mention Bodo Glimt. Ra Sellik state of mind will continue until a battalion on Pat Bonner-Bots are the norm' - who cares about the names of the opposition players, we only broadcast to praise ra Sellik.

  5. Sent unexpectedly this afternoon on an unexpected, tedious errand, I thought I’d give Sportsound a go to follow the fortunes of the Famous. The last time I heard a fragment of a commentary was December 2019. Today was just dreadful. There was no bias against Rangers. Indeed from time to time the summariser, Craiggen? Craggen? - him, anyway - remarked that Rangers were playing quite well but whoever was doing the commentary was hopeless completely failing to describe play as they chatted learnedly about this and that. e.g. the summariser in all seriousness told me what St Mirren had to do, was get the ball, keep it and get it up into the Rangers box. I could work that out for myself. They rarely bothered to say where the ball actually was unless there was a likely shot at goal. My mission accomplished, I did not remain with them for the second half. To find out if I am living hopelessly in the past when Peter Thomson liked to give what he called a sound picture of the game, a tradition ably carried on by Francey, Alexander and Begg, I listened to a bit of the R5 commentary City v Leicester. There it was. The sound picture. The commentator telling me where play was, who was in possession, the markers, runners, tacklers, the whole lot. Sportsound is useless. Never mind the bias, the snarkiness and the bheggar adulation. They can’t even do the basics.

  6. It's been on my mind for some time but, since I only really use Gersnet forums, the content of the main Gersnet site has never been of that much interest to me. That said, I can't help feeling it has deteriorated sharply in recent times. There used to be the wonderful facility to research past matches going back decades, or check details of current players, but that all seems to have gone. Player ratings (whatever that was) was introduced and then seemingly abandoned after a few weeks. I'd hazard that the site seems to have lost its way and it's hard to understand where it's going or what it's meant to offer. It's a shame to see it like this when so much more could be made of it.

  7. A big bullet heided centre furrit and a couple of bandy leged wingers plus a couple of full backs that would kick their granny

  10. It is really concerning how easily we concede goals. I would need more time to judge Souttar. I liked him before he joined us but he's made 2 bad mistakes in 2 games. This may be unpopular but I don't think Davies is good enough. He always has a mistake in him, isn't strong in the tackle and I am not sure he has the bottle for the big games. We need a quality centre half in the summer.

  11. Maybe I expect to much but am I the only person who thinks our play is to slow

  12. I thought Souttar showed hints of the player we thought we were signing. Another few games and we might see considerably more. For such an uninspiring overall performance I felt Tillman was the only one player who fell far below what he's capable of but our real problem is quite simple, we don't have enough players capable of delivering the quality of play we need to win trophies on a regular basis. Cantwell stood out again, as I suspect he will most weeks. He's the most influential signing of the last couple of years, head and shoulders above even Raskin.

  13. Truth is it was THEM who didn’t want us to sign RC’s. Not us. My view is the policy was unsustainable and Rangers managers prior to Souness wanted it overturned

  14. That lot are still annoyed about us signing Maurice Johnston 30 odd years ago. And they're still annoyed about our made up (by them) non-RC signing policy. It's no wonder they're so messed up, paranoid and delusional when all they can focus on are negatives. They really hate us, regardless of what we do.

  15. I don't understand why we so seldom use Arfield. As an attacking midfielder he's still as good as anyone (Cantwell excepted).

  16. I suppose it will all be down to the clubs finances and how much we can bring in for any players we can punt a I don’t think that will be all that much .

  17. Lets have a look: Right now, it looks a good bet that McGregor, Helander, Davis, and Morelos won't be here, and I would assume Kent and Kamara neither. Ofoborh is essentially non-existent. Dunno about Tavernier. Likewise, I would assume that if bids come in, we may lose Wright and Barisic. We will most likely have Lawrence and Roofe back, who knows for how long. I'd sure give Arfield another year, his input, especially from the bench has been vital and he looks fit as ever. Hagi is essentially a "new signing" Lowry, King, and Devine are waiting in the wings, no real idea about the rest of the B teamers. So I would assume there should be at least five newcomers, with most of them starters.

  18. Not enough is the honest answer. Currently, our best first team line up requires no fewer than 7 new faces who are all a considerable improvement on those they replace. Achieving that seems fanciful at best, given there is very little income to be had from selling any of the current squad. I feel the upshot is almost certainly another season when we won't win the title. I think the very best we can hope for are 2 good signings, plus 2 or 3 other who are a bit of a Tamundo type gamble.

  19. Agree with Gonzo concerning a goalkeeper and a striker being priority, and offloading deadwood. The defence are conceeding to many silly goals, so that does need sorting, be it by better coaching or replacing. It would be quicker for me to list who I'd keep than who I'd ship out, so as many as possible.

  20. If what the January transfer window is anything to go by I was expecting 3 or 4 signings to come in with what the manager was saying and we got 2. So I'd probably say 5 or 6, just hoping we don't retain players we don't need to e.g Morelos, McGregor, Arfield. Positions I'd say GK, ST, CM/DM, RW. Maybe a couple in those positions as well like ST or GK. If it's only 5 signings but they're quality then I'll be happy with that tbh, the squad needs trimming.

  21. Easy answer would be that if you can't make a game, give your season ticket to a family member or friend. As others have said I can see both sides of argument but lean towards the side of if you've paid for your ST it's your decision whether you attend or not.

  22. Makes sense to me. Tough but these are tough times. For good or for bad, just go to the games. You’ll miss it when you can’t.

  23. Just read that St Mirren only had 9 touches of the ball in the period when we made it 3-2 into 5-2.

  24. That was a great goal...right over to those pricks to rub it in too. I have very fond memories of SG as our manager. I respect him, and appreciate what he did for our club. He was out of his depth in England, and when Beale left him the gig was really up. As for Naismith. Gettin attached to a player is like loving a stripper. Never forget that these players are PAID for their services. Like Snoop said "We don't love dem hoes" Now score some goals.

  26. Not really sayin much. This image has becomes Ryan Kent in my mind's eye. I don't know why anyone would want him to stay given his end product. 217 total games 33 goals...that's a goal every 6.5 games...for an attacking player. 29 league games this year...3 goals. Good God he is so overrated. I pray that this team finally pull their head out of their ass about him. Let him go! He will be fine in the English Championship, or League One...doing that step over thing until he loses that trick with age in a couple years. Phew...needed to get that out for a while now. Thanks!

  27. Some really good stuff today. Some really bad stuff today. I liked what I saw from both Tillman and Cantwell. It was a nice surprise to see Matondo actually contribute something useful.

  28. A good win in the end but we’re losing far too many goals. We’ll need a keeper & another CB in the summer And I think Sakala is more of a goal threat & usually has a better end product than Kent. Going to be an interesting summer transfer window

  30. Well, IMHO, we were bound to beat them all afternoon, yet, we managed to give another 2 poor goals away, 5 withing 7 days. Some feat. Our attacking play is as good as it gets. Sakala, Morelos (or any other striker) and Cantwell make a productive front three, why would anyone recall Kent? Raskin is the driving motor from deep midfield, Tillman good enough to be creative behind the front three, and getting into free spaces. The three subs didn't make much sense (nor would I have withdrawn Sakala), but brilliantly held the line and set up Morelos, while Arfield flick through the goalie's legs was just sublime, as was Cantwell's pass. A BIG hat's off to Cantwell. What a display for the full 90, even tracking back hard in the 92nd despite being on a yellow.

  32. Doing a pro-Kent stunt here, Tillman set up the first goal with a neat pass to Sakala 😉

  33. Tillman has been no worse than Alfie, Borna, Tav and Davies. Very few get pass marks in 1st half.

  34. After our goal, St. Mirren gave us about an ounce or two more pressure on the centre-halfs, and they easily fell into their sloppy passes mode. Once the ref didn't whistle for that foul on Sakala, my gut feeling said, "just wait and see" ... and rightly so, we defended like amateurs, were just ball-watching and that O#Hara shot capped it all off. If anything, we need some decent centre-halfs next year, people 100% switched on for the full 90, doing the simple things, and don't panic.
